A Party! Oh my thats sound exciting! But I have no idea of where Arkansas is. lol

Texas DG Calendar of Events
LOL! Oh, Sylvia!
Maggie, Is that like on the way to Texerkana?I think Texas is on one side of the street and Ark on the other? I drove from there to Dallas one time ... by myself. ...had no choice. ;) lol
Sylvia
That is the place Sylvia! I was born up in NE TX about 32 miles from Texarkana.
You got it! And this party/swap is about 20 miles from there, in Arkansas. More information on the link.
Ok Shelia! you gonna have to come thru Dallas to get there. lol ...and I will bring the Mojitos. :)
Sylvia
ROFLOL!! Sylvia, I had to look that one up! I thought it was a Mexican dish, that I would go for, but I am not a drinker so it would be more Mojitos for you! LOL! That is pretty close to the date of the RU in College Station, so I don't want to comit right now, but will keep it in mind. I love that part of the country for sure.
Shelia, I know where you are coming from. I cant commit right now either. with italy and the RU at college station I got to start thinking "Budget". Anyway ... I do make a good salsa too ... right Maggie?
Sylvia
That works for me. Didn't you bring some at the Arlington swap last Spring?
YES! YES! Thats when I met you. Geeese Sheila I feel like I been knowing you for years, I forgot where I met you at. lol I enjoyed you guys so much, I cant wait to see you. I feel the same way about Maggie too, we talked for a long time before we met. Sheila I am not a big drinker either, but I grow so much mint. So every weekend I made Mojitos for whoever drop by. lol
I think my girlfriends got burn out on my Mojitos, even the two that drink like fish! lol
Ruth my friend is trying to figure out how we going to get there for Breakfast at 8:30. She says she driving, thinks I drive too slow. You should see her driving the ramps at work looking for a place to park. I told her if she wasnt careful, she was going to run down some of the patients! lol
Sylvia
How could you forget those lovely pictures that are plaster on the thread! LOL! I do have one that TXMEL took that day on my ID page. We didn't see each other much, I was on the other side of the pavillion, trying to keep plants from blowing away!
Yeah i got thos water plants from you. you know that Horse tail plant is still green out there? I hope its coming back its an interesting plant. use to see it in HD all the time. I still would like some of the palm tree looking thing(hint) for inside the house. I found this huge glass vase at a thrift store it would look great in. ;) lol
Tommorrow Ruth and I will determine if we are leaving friday or saturday for Bryan. will keep you posted.

Texas Guys Close to Austin:
On June 8th, there is a Nursery Tour planned for Austin, Texas. Go to the thread in this forum and check it out if you're interested!
(I would do a HYPERLINK but don't know how! :(
Maggymoo....can you add our event to your list at the top? Thanks...
When is the San Antonio area (or nearby) going to have something? With the gas going up, we sure could use more local events!
Hey Linda, ya'll can come visit me anytime! I have to be reminded that my mom needs me every two hours when I have company, since I'm not used to it, but I do crave conversation of any kind...heh...maybe as soon as my empress tree grows (so I have some shade!) and I get my "ice jacuzzi" put in (hopefully by my birthday!!), I can have a garden party!
I'd offer to bring ice and lemonade, but the ice would melt by the time I got there . . . do ya'll like 'hot lemonade'? Of course my lemons still look like limes this time of year . . . maybe they'll be cold in December when they turn yellow? lol
Do keep up posted if there's going to be a SA local roundup anytime soon. :)
GD
Oh, GD, I'm so jealous! I have a lemon, a lime, and a tangerine tree, but none of them have ever bloomed yet...only had them since last year, and one for two years, but I wonder if I need to give them something!
Anyway, I found a lemonade recipe that I started making...it takes a month, and it'll be ready on the 4th of July...made with lemon verbena, sugar and vodka! Never made it before, but it sure smells good so far!!
Wooooooo hooooo . . . . that does sound good :D
Well this will be the first year my lemon trees are in the ground. I've had them in pots and brought them indoors the first couple of years.
Once they seemed pretty well established in some larger pots, I started leaving them out for the winter - under cover and out of the wind. I decided they were ready for the ground this spring and have them out by a small herb garden in a north west corner of a fence. I intend to use that fence/corner to erect a temporary greenhouse of sorts for the winters. It's close enough for me to get power to incase I need to include heat of some sort . . . We'll see how they do.
I'm not sure what yours may need? They do have a Citrus food that may help? Both my trees bloomed and produced fruit last year, but only one bloomed this year for some reason, not sure why?
I'm still a 'rookie' in this dept., so if you learn anything that helps, please pass it along ;)
Friends of ours have had a lemon tree for several years...and nothing! Planted in the ground...they protect it every winter...I know nothing to suggest because I've never had a citrus tree. Oh, it would be nice to have a DG event in SA! I haven't been a subscriber long, but I think the other two major cities have something or other, and even Austin has those nursery tours. And I'd like to meet the other DG people in the area who didn't make it to the RU this spring! Ice jacuzzi...is that a jacuzzi with ice in it? Well, quite often when I'm outside on a hot day, I have an urge to just turn the hose on and cool off under it. It's so hot!
Haha...Linda, I do that with the hose all the time. The future ice jacuzzi is, yeah, an iced down jacuzzi...a friend told me once that he fills his old 3-ltr coke bottles up with water and freezes them. When he wants to sit in the jacuzzi in the summer, he throws about 10 of them into the water, turns it on and circulates the water with the bottles in it until it gets nice and cold. I have dreams about doing that every day I'm out there, but where my jacuzzi is going to be someday, is where there's a huge, ugly pile of mulch and chopped down weed oak trees...not to mention that I only have 1/5th of the money saved to buy it with!
GD, all my citrus trees made it through last winter fine. They lost some leaves and didn't look very good, but they bounced right back, and last winter was the coldest winter we've had at this house...2 days got down to 29-30F. I think it might be that I don't water my gardens all winter, but I will try to look for some citrus tree food, just to see if that'll help. When do they bloom?
A couple years ago, I was going to try to do a Round-up here, but then Mama fell and also got a lot worse all of the sudden, which is why I haven't been even online for like 2 years...I'm only here now cuz she's on tube feedings, which gives me about 6 hours a day that I didn't have before when I had to prepare and puree 3 meals a day for her. Unfortunately, 6 hours a day isn't enough to make up for 2 years of forgotten gardens and an uncleaned, now stained inside environment in need of a huge spring-cleaning job!!
Do come over sometime...I'm in the Stone Oak area...how are are you from me?
If you need something to do, you are welcome to come to my place and weed! *giggle My deck is just about done, I've planted and planted. I've mulched my little heart out and the place is looking pretty good actually.
Hmmm...maybe when I'm done with my weeds...haha. It's amazing how many more people on Dave's Garden are from the SA area! That's cool! One of you should really get a round-up started for out here! I haven't been to one yet...well, not for more than an hour anyway! My husband and step-son went to the one in Texarkana a couple of years ago without me, cuz I got a last minute job with Mana (a tejano band...with really hot guys...haha!) and had to go to Dallas. My son and I went to Texarkana after the show, but he fell asleep in the car (he's my eyes), so I missed the turn-off and didn't realize it (car was on auto-pilot) until I was half-way through Oklahoma. I got there at 4 am, and had to hit the road by 6 am in order to get to the next show. I got to meet Smockette, cuz she was the only other person already up and looking for coffee at 5:30! If I had the time, I would put one together, but there's no way I could do it...can't even remember to shave my other leg before I get out of the shower anymore...hahaha!
Hi everyone, I'm glad so many people want to get together. The Nursery Dates, etc that we did last summer - in San Antonio, Austin, Houston & Dallas - all came about because some of us just wanted to get together. The best way to get something started is to start a thread with your suggestion, and ask if anyone's interested (like the Austin people did recently.) The best thing is for the thread title to give your location, so you'll definitely get the San Antonio people looking in as well as others who may want to travel to join you ("San Antonio get together?" etc).
With the price of gas what it is, it's especially important to get local things going, so go for it, and have fun!
(By the way, sorry I have been so remiss in keeping this thing updated. I've been pretty out of touch, have a lot going on, but will try to do better. If you get something together, someone dmail me or add a post to this thread with the particulars, and I'll add it to the top post.)
quite willing to do something at my place. I have a large yard and a large deck. Don't know what goes into having a roundup since I just joined recently.
Welcome to the group Renatelynne! ...how nice of you to invite us over. Where is Boerne or what is it near? Just wondering ...as I am not the person who decides on these things ... thank goodness. lol
Sylvia
Boerne is near San Antonio. Just about like McKinney is near Dallas
Hello Renatelynne, that is very nice of you to offer your place for an r.u.
Since you are near San Antonio, there are quite a few members that would be glad to hear from you, especially LindaTx8, Gdrankin, Meiyu and others.
You could start a thread on the Texas forum, something like:
( San Antonio area Plant Swap ) and I bet you would have a lot of people interested.
I hope you get it together, it is a lot of fun.
Josephine.
Grins @ ice jacuzzi . . . lol - sounds good to me!!!
Re: Lemons: I have an uncle over in Somerset (just southwest of San Antone') that has had great success with his Lemon trees. He's got two of them on either side of his porch on the south wall of his house. I'm not sure the details on how he's cared for them over the years, but I'll get some info and tips (to share with everyone) from him the next time I'm over there. His make the LARGEST lemons I've ever seen - one lemon will make a whole pie :)
Meiyu . . . my little lemon trees bloom around March and start showing fruit by May. However, they stay green until around mid December. I do think they like lots of water in this Texas heat tho. Here's a link I found that seems to lend more towards the Valley area growers, but it has some useful information you may can use?

Re: Local RU - that sounds like a good time to me. I'm out south of town about 1/2 between SA & Pleasanton, but I'm in town at least once a week and would enjoy meeting some of the local 'DG green thumbers' ;)
Happy 4th everyone
I have at long last updated the upcoming events in the top post. Hope to see people in Arlington and College Station!
:-)
I have added the San Antonio area plant swap Oct 14. Thanks to renatelynne, for dmailing me!
Maggie where have you been? I ran across your cell number today and started to call and find out where you were. :)
Maggie,
Will someone give me a link to the upcoming RU at Tyler? I would like more info - motels? map? directions to Joan's house ? etc.
Louise
Actually it has been changed to Oct 15 for the SA Swap. D-mail me if you have any questions
Corrected the SA swap date to Oct 15th.
Louise, is there a RU in Tyler?
Soory I haven't been here as often as I should, my home computer is seriously messed up right now, I have to sneak a little time in from work.
Maggie,
My computer has been down since Oct. 2 and is just now back up ( 11 days - NO DG ! ooooow). The RU was set for Oct 28 & 29 in Tyler at the home of 'jestelloan' on DG. I have a friend who would like to go with me if we can have a bit more info - exact dates, directions, etc).
I'm hoping that I hear from someone who is going for more info,
Louise
I am in the process of getting one too. I will never fix this eight year old computer again. :)
I have added the Texas Native Plant sale in Boerne, Sat April 7th. See renatelynne for details.
(Sorry, I missed your dmail to me in Feb about this!)
I have added the Galveston County 2007 Spring Plant Swap, Sat May 12th.
