Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi pb, glad to meet you!

Which of the events are you referring to? The top post lists all the upcoming events. Whichever event you are referring to, simply click the link to that thread, and post your message and list to that thread. The people who need to see your list may not be watching this thread, but they will be watching the thread about the event itself.
:-)

If you're talking about the Dallas Plant Swap, here is the link to the thread:
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/504380/

Hope you'll join us in some of the other threads, too. You've got quite a collection of plants!

Maggie

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, Maggie, and thanks for the welcome.

I was talking about the swap in September. Yeah, I realized later I posted on the wrong thread, when I went to that one and couldn't find my post. :) I can't make the nursery date on July 23. Should I copy my list over there?

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, that would be better. That way, those who are going to the swap will be able to see it all. I should be going to the swap also, it will be good to meet you there!

Colorado Springs, CO(Zone 6a)

Oh I'm so sad! I will be in Houston for the weekend of July 23rd and then Houston for most of August..I can't make ANY of those!! :( I'll watch for pictures and updates and live vicariously. Susanne

Dallas, TX

pbtxlady, North Haven Gardens in Dallas has catmint, Walker's Low. I have also seen it in Lowe's but it wasn't labeled as such.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I have updated the links for the Dallas Plant Swap.

Also, I added some links to some non-DG events. They are plant swaps - one in Galveston County, the other @ Mercer Arboretum - both in Oct. They are great ways to meet other plant enthusiasts, and perhaps we can spread the DG word while we're at it! Thanks to Margie Jenke (sunnytx) and to Nadine's (moodene) friend Jennifer for letting me know about these.

(Hey, trois, sunnytx is in Santa Fe!!)

Santa Fe, TX(Zone 9b)

We must go meet soon.

Houston, TX

Below is what I sent to Darius for the Texas Calendar thread. Guess it isn't being maintained so I was glad to find this one. Maybe some duplications at the "plantmeet.com" website but that particular link is one everyone should bookmark (IMHO).

==Begin what I sent to Darius for the Calendar thread that didn't get posted yet====

There's a great website with numerous swap meets scheduled for October in Texas. Hope you can add all of them at: [HYPERLINK@www.plantmeet.com]

This is a sticky at the top but not up to date.
Is this one closed???

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Ooops! Sorry, I've been meaning to update this, will do that when I get home this afternoon.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I have (finally) updated the events!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Just calling attention again to the Statewide Roundup in College Station, April 29th. It's the first link in the first post on this thread.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

For those who can't make the Statewide Roundup in College Station on April 29th, I have added the Galveston County Plant Swap.

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Please enlighten a new member..........what's a round up???????

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

:-) Thanks for asking! A Roundup is a gathering of DG members, a chance to meet people face to face that you've only met previously through a keyboard. It always involves fun, food, and plants! Many people will bring plants to swap or give away, but it isn't required. It's a lot of fun to put faces to the user names!

They go on all over the country. The first Central TX Roundup (CTRU) was last April in Kerrville. Here are the pics: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/503196/ . We had another one in November, the link is in the top post of this thread.

Hope to see you in College Station!

Magnolia, TX(Zone 8b)

Where's the link to the posting by Dave on this? I forgot to mark it.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

The very first post in this thread always has links to upcoming events. In this case, the first link in the first post is the one about the Texas Statewide Roundup in College Station.
:-)

Deer Park, TX(Zone 9a)

maggiemoo,

What is the procedure for posting a plant sale?

txflowerlady

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi!

This "sticky" thread is pretty much just for DG events, but I have included a couple of plant swaps in the past. If it's a plant sale you want people to know about, what some of us have done in the past is to just start a thread about it. We want to steer away from events that involve money for plants in this thread but by all means, don't hesitate to let people know of a sale that's going on or is coming up, on another thread (I'm always hoping to find other interested folks in the area to meet up with them.)

It works best if the subject of the thread tells the general location (Houston area, South Dallas, etc), that there's a sale & the date. For example: Houston Bulb Sale, 3/19.

Hope that helps!

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

i am new to daves. if i attend one of these plant swaps what can i expect? do i just pot up what i have and go? how do the swaps work? is the swapping all done before hand on the computer by folks listing what they have and others writing back saying they have whatever they have for trade? i don't know if there is a "proper" etiquette or not and don't want to offend anyone because i start salivating at the mouth just thinking about trading plants i have in abundance for ones i don't have at all. thanks for any information. barb

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi, mamajack! Welcome to Dave's! If you go to the Roundup Forum (http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/roundup/all/) and kinda poke around at the different ones, you will get an idea of how they are organized and what goes on. The Iowa people, in particular, are VERY organized and obviously have a great time. :-)

The Texas Roundup in April is just starting to get organized, so we don't have everything set up yet. I expect that VERY soon, there will be more threads started just for people to list what plants they have to trade and what they are looking for. That way you will have a good idea ahead of time what to bring with you and who is getting it. It is also very normal for people to bring extras of whatever they have and do impulse-swaps at the Roundup. So the answer to your question is: both are very proper etiquette. :-)

It is also totally proper etiquette to hold out for something you want and not swap a really nice named rose for a plug of monkey grass unless you REALLY wanted that monkey grass. (And if you do, boy, do I have some you can have!!! LOL)

And of course if you have tons of stuff that you really need to give away so you will have room for all of the neat stuff you are going to get at the Roundup (and the Antique Rose Emporium and any other fun places we may visit while we're in the area, not to mention any of the catalogs you might have ordered from), it is also very acceptable to just put it out there for anyone to take whether they have something you want or not - but choosing to do that is totally up to you and no one will be even SLIGHTLY offended or even surprised if you don't.

Hoping that helps and hoping to meet you in College Station on the 29th of April...

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Some people even bring crafts to trade for plants. Last swap, I got some homegrown loufa sponges! LOL! Also I have seen where others that have loads of plants said they would take potting soil, perelite, etc. in exchange. There are houseplants, vines, bulbs, seeds, potted perennials, veggies, cactus, & pond plants. You will love it!

Princeton, TX(Zone 8a)

SWAP?? I have lots of cannas, some irises, also seeds from hyacinth bean plants I'd like to swap. I live in Princeton but spend time in Plano and Allen.

elorasmom, here are some links you may be interested in (in case you haven't found them yet).

This thread is about the gathering in College Station, TX on April 29th. We hope you can make it! http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/555362/

This forum is just for trading plants: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/planttrading/all/

This forum is just for trading seeds: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/trading/all/

This forum is for round robins, which are very fun. You get a smörgåsbord of seed packets in the mail. You choose what you like, put the same number of seed envelopes back in, and send it off to the next person on the list. http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/rrtrade/all/

NE Medina Co., TX(Zone 8a)

Are there any plans for another Kerrville roundup? I'll try to make it to College Station, but I don't think I could stay overnight, so that would be a LOT of miles (and gas) in one day. I live west of San Antonio.

Crossville, TN

I have yet to get to go to a RU in TX! *snif*.....I hate that I can't go to Dave's in Bryan....ya'll think of this old lady!

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

I have added an event on May 20th. bigred is an ARK DG member, is close to TX, and has invited anyone who can make it to a garden swap party! Hope some will be able to make it.
