Rosamond

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

This is my second Rosamond. The first to bloom didn't have buds like this. Does Rosamond usually have giant buds?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I will have to go check the buds, the blooms are just huge!! So I bet the buds are also. This brug is such a special one.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks Kell, you sent this cutting to me about 2 years ago.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

WOWZERS, Linda, that's huge!!!! My Rosamond wants to go visit Auntie Linda so she can eat and get huge buds like Sister SC has!! Actually, my Rosamond doesn't have buds yet, but she has Yed. I had a Bubbler Rosamond bloom, along with PB, but I didn't get to see them as they are living with Auntie Sister in Little Rock...I cannot wait to see yours bloom!!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I'm anxious too Sherry, there are 4 buds and 1 is starting to show signs of emerging.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You will love it, Linda! I forgot I sent it to you. It was given to me as Rosamond, but if the theory is correct that PB has the 1 slit calyx and Rosamond has more, this is PB. LOL. I know nothing.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Unless something happens this season to change my mind, if I was given a choice, between PB and Rosamond, I'd go with PB - but, I have to see what they do this growing season, I know that I do love both. They bubbler like crazy, root like crazy and were able to tolerate all the intense newbie abuse I gave them and kept right on trucking, even in Arky, they are about 9 feet tall, Yed and should have buds soon...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Bubbler? Did I miss something (other than brains the day they were passed around)? I know Blaine talked about a bubbler...but I thought it was a device...not a description....
Sorry, bit slower today!!

Carol

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Carol, I didn't realize it, but I guess I'm using it as a description, tho it is actually a homemade device that has been so successful, for me, that I talk about it as if everyone knew what I was discussing. Duh. Remember, I'm from Arky, ya know, lol...

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Rosamond has huge bloom pods. I really love it

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

There is a picture in one of the galleries, by Susie French, of Rosamond with one split in the calyx. Patricia Reynold's pictures of Pink Beauty appear to have one split also. One picture of Rosamond, by Kell, in the same gallery, has more than one split and another has only one split. I remember asking Monika about these two brugs and she said that unless they were side by side, she couldn't tell the difference. My two cents worth.

The person that told me I had Rosamond instead of PB said the difference was in the leaves. I still don't know. LOL!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I got my Rosamond from GloriaL so am pretty sure it is correctly named. It makes huge bloom pods. I only have Butterfly for comparison since I gave away PB when I was told it was basically the same as Butterfly so never saw it bloom. Will look a mine for more details.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the details. I'll post photos of blooms (and calax split etc) and hopefully some of you can tell me if it is Rosamond or PB.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Either way, you will not be disappointed. And, they are easy to grow and root, I hope I get a pod from one of them, doesn't matter which one, I love both of them...

Linda here is some pics of mine with more detail. Hope it helps

this bloom has 1 split. My are all mixed with 1 or 2 splits. It depends on how big the bloom is on it.

Opening today, I love it. Made this photo in the rain so I'll have to go back later for more. Looks like 1 split in the callax, serrated leaves, what else should I look for?

mmmmmmm looks like I need to adjust the date on my camera.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Linda, is that the one I gave you??? Gee, look at that low clayx. A trait I love. Mine never has done that. I wonder just how much environment does efffect these brugs and affect how they look and color up. Too neat.

Both my PB and Rosamond have just 1 split. My Rosamond blooms are huge but the tree has been in the ground 3 years now. The PB has just been in this year so I really should not compare the size yet.

And Donna, I do not think I have any serrated leaves. LOL. I will look later.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

This was my first Rosamond to bloom in May. This one had some with 1 split, some with 2 and some with more than 2. The leaves aren't serrated.

Linda I think you have Rosamond too. Barb Posted pics of her PB and the leaves have no serration and the flower have recurve which Rosamond doesn't. Look at Barbs post here

Good possibility Carol.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Carol, it looks like the one I have blooming now. This morning, I have 2 blooms open, of course I didn't have time to go look or take photos because this 'work' thing gets in the way. This afternoon I will take more photos. (hope it's not raining again)

My Rosamond #2 (which bloomed in May) has smooth edge leaves and recurve. Rosamond #1, blooming now, has serrated leaves, much lower calyx and no recurve. I love them both, just want to be sure of the names.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Linda, et al, sometimes I see this: Rosamond2 x ? or Pink Beauty2 x ?
Could it be that one of them is a Rosamond or PB 2???? I don't know quite how it works but sometimes the 2 means it's an 'upgraded' version of the brug, or so I understood...

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Sherry, I call mine #1 and #2 because about 2 years ago when I was into BIG TIME BEGGING, Kell sent me some cuttings and 2 of them were Rosamond. I tagged them Rosamond #1 and Rosamond #2. I assumed they were from the same plant, but maybe she had more than 1 Rosamond and the cuttings were from different plants?

Kell, do you remember what you were doing in Sept 2003??

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Please excuse that post. I looked up the info with regard to the number 2 by some crosses and posted it in the post that follows this one. SLike

Lol, Linda, if Kell is like me, she doesn't remember what she was doing an hour ago. Linda, I didn't realize you have a RD #1 & #2, when I posted that. I asked on some thread, within the last month or so, what it meant in ads on www sites when it said Rosamond2 x ?? or EP2 x ?, or whatever, and this was the reply:

>>>>>Sherry it means it is not the original, but possibly a seedling from the original(or a new improved version).>>>>>

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Thanks! Whatever, it is beautiful!!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well, Sherry has got that right. I have been going round and round in circles here and getting nothing done all day. I made myself a cup of tea hours ago and still have no clue where I laid it down. I went out to take a pic and saw a plant needed water badly and started watering. An hour later I realized I was going to take a pic of a hibiscus and then couldn't find my camera.

Funny though, I always end up sitting in this chair after all my little forays out into the big world out there.

I remember Linda, LOL, I was sending you cuttings. I keep notes about what I send to whom, but it would take me awhile to find them from so long ago. I do believe I ony had 1 Rosmoand though, Linda.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Well, here it is this afternoon and I love it. Think it's my favorite so far.

Linda, WOWZERS, it is one of the prettiest I've ever seen and your photos are excellent, I REALLY love her, she is just beautiful and you captured her at exactly the right angles, I'm impressed!!!!!

Gorgeous, Linda!!

Is Rosemond really fragrant?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks all. Kell, I was kidding about remembering 2 years ago, I can hardly remember last week. You were so kind to send cuttings, and I was so needy. Now when I see the gorgeous new ones, I say 'I can't have them all', but occasionally I would really like to beg for a cutting (like your newest red one)

Emily, I didn't notice a fragrance when I was making photos, and I didn't go back out after it got dark. It is not in the best location and it's in the ground. Next year, it will have a better location.

I did notice spider mites in the very top (about 10 ft) so I'll have to spray again. I don't know what to use since it's too hot for neem oil. Any suggestions?

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

Reason I ask about the fragrance is I have 2 young Rosemonds that haven't bloomed yet and my only frame of reference for fragrance is Charles Grimaldi because he's blooming like crazy right now.
