Strange thing just happened....

I was reading my watched threads and the printer started running. The DG home page just printed, all 7 pages of it! I let it finish because I wanted to see what was happening. Then I pulled the paper back, so it wouldn't print anything else. A few moments later, the printer started again, wanted to print again! I didn't click 'Print' at all so I don't know what's going on. Apparently some little green men have invaded it. Anyone else have this happen?

Have you had lightening in the area recently? Sometimes when there is an electrical storm around us, weird things happen. Hmmm.

No but I had a Volvo who would start her windshield wippers after hours of having been parked, then the lights started doing the same thing. I concluded she was trying to get my attention. After the mechanic fiddled under the hood, she stopped but even he didn't know which wiggle fixed the problem. lol lol lol

The nice thing about computers is that they NEVER do ANYTHING without being told to do it by someone. Therefore, 3 possibilities exist:

1) Something on DG told your printer to print. This is basically an impossibility - you cannot cause someone's printer to print by simply having them view your webpage. There are exceptions but it would be extremely difficult.

2) You yourself hit the print button (unlikely, however Ctrl-P on my computer tells it to print, and it's possible to accidentally hit that key).

3) You have another piece of software installed on your computer, and that software is controlling things like your printer. This could be spyware or a virus.

More gremlins in the system?

I know it's probably too late now to figure it out, but are you sure you didn't have anything else "spooled" in your printer's queue?

Mine's been known to do strange things like that, not terribly extraordinary considering we have three PC's on our wireless network here (plus two laptops that tap into the same network.) Occasionally something will get hung up in there, and when resources get freed up - or the moon and stars are perfectly aligned - it will begin printing whatever's been hangin' out in there.

I don't know what did it - I next went to someone's home page to send them a msg and it started printing their home page.

A couple of possibilities - we've had many, many storms the past few weeks.

We've had problems opening ebay and links on dg for 2-3 weeks.

I spoke with our server's tech person yesterday and he had me do a few things.

So, my conclusion is, I have no idea...... think I'll leave the paper pulled back just incase it decided to do some more printing without me knowing about it. :) Thanks for the help folks. If it happens again, I have somewhere to start looking for problems.

Kooger, have you shut down your printer and let it sit? I've done that when I've been printing and my job doesn't finish and then my printer won't work. Next time I t urn my computer back on, it will tell me I still have jobs in my printer.

But my computer does act funny if it is storming. I have to unplug my phone line whenever there are electrical storms nearby. I've lost two computers and that was with good surge protectors. We are a lightening magnet here at Misty Meadows Farm :)

And I can just feel them in the air before they even get here and now know when to unplug.

No, I haven't shut down the printer. I have a hunch that something the tech person had me do has something to do with it because I would never knowingly print the whole 7 pg. newsletter and also, when I went to someone's home page, it started printing that too. It was like everywhere I went the printer followed..... lol Strange!

During storms I usually unplug the surge protecter bar that everything is plugged into but didn't on Monday evening. I printed and then sent a fax on Tues. pm and that went ok.

I put the paper back in place while I read DG this am and I'll see if I get anymore surprises. Have to leave at 6:30 for DGD's surgery so I'll pull the paper back again then.
