[mortified]........it is funny, maggiemoo! I get this picture in my mind, and voila! see/read who the person actually is! Like I said above about Dave.......used to imagine him as a professor-like older guy, with the beard and spectacles. Ok, and he looks like a teenager! Not that I'm not..........;-)
And, yes, 75154......."Don't eat that! I don't care what your brother 'said!'" Oh, and the greenhouse water puddles......I especially love those on the days when they're all wearing their NEW shoes. Stomp, splash and muck around. I usually buy MORE plants on those days to cheer myself.

The San Antonio Nursery Date in pictures
Yes I am a guy - young and I teach school so all summer I take care of my son Chi... ot can really make going to look at plants fun. Standing in the middle of the best plants and pop! here we go looking for the bathroom to change him for the unknown number of times..... ahh and then you find that one plant and in the car on the way home he brakes the whole top of it or tips it over... to much fun...
oh mitch with all the reading about how young you are, for a second I thought this was YOUR pix and I was saying to myself, WOW THAT IS ONE PRECOCIOUS GARDENER!!!! lol hee hee ha ha
LOL - I am not that young...
where is red oak in relation to Dallas, is it like towards denton?
South of Dallas on I35, I am on the Dallas Co side of the Dallas/Ellis county line four blocks down and you are in Ellis County. So Waco is closer to me then Denton - they are both still just over 60 min away.
Susie, sorry I assumed you asked for cuttings. Wow, he offered you cuttings ... what a great guy. He has always been very helpful when I have chatted with him. I'll go over there this week sometime and ask him what they were. I am sure he will remember.
It was so funny when I finally arrived. The manager saw me come in and she hurried over to tell me that a bunch of my Dave's Garden friends were over by the native plants. She was so happy y'all came to visit and y'all were the highlight of their day. Usually, it is very crowded on Saturday. She said that the number of customers dwindled by 1:00 due to the excessive heat. We were wilting in the heat, but at least it wasn't crowded and they were able to answer questions and provide assistance to everyone. BTW, I have lost my cart so many times ... I wander around looking for it pretending I'm looking at plants so nobody realizes I'm hunting for it.
Mitch, I hope I'll be able to meet you when you come to San Antonio. Chi is so cute and what a wonderful photo of him. Two year olds are such fun (right, MKJ?) and they make life an adventure. I am a retired teacher and always looked forward to Spring Break and the summer so I could work in the yard all day.
Margie, we miss you. Maybe some day we will meet again ...
HotnSpicy, I am looking forward to meeting you.
Donna, thanks for posting the great photos.
Vossner, if I can make the Houston tour, I'll be so happy to meet you. I laughed when I read you comment above.
what have you guys started?? On another thread now there is talk about a Dallas nursery date. This activity is spreading like wildfire!
We're trying to get it to spread to the rest of DG as well. It's a great way to meet each other throughout the year, as well as to discover some really good nurseries! Lots of people aren't able to make RoundUps, and they usually have only one chance a year to do that. The RoundUps will be like homecomings!
Why not - got to love looking at and getting plants together! Anyway half of the fun of plants is the people you meet right?
Donna, copied from another thread :
Donna, I think that the plant you were describing as having small (1 to 1.5 inches) yellowish blooms that I had given you at the Central Texas Roundup might be this one. You thought it was an abutillon. I just planted one of my rooted cuttings and said to myself ... I bet this is the Donna was talking about. I begged for cuttings from the mother plant at the San Antonio Botanical Garden because I had never seen this plant before. It is difficult to find. I have only seen it grow to about 2 feet tall and 2.5 feet in width and sort of rambles a bit. It seems to prefer filtered sun here or better yet morning sun and afternoon shade. It appears to need some sun to produce blooms. They had it growing under an oak tree.Mine just started blooming. It likes our hot weather and is late coming up in the spring. Is this it?

Wow, I'm sure glad we have such good historians for our group. That was a very well documented trip. I'm even more excited about the Austin trip now. We definitely need to schedule another SA trip in Sept or Oct when it's cooler. I don't know what other people schedules look like, but my busiest weekend of the year is the second weekend of October. Pretty much any other time is great.
I have a suggestion: Why don't we do away with August, and just add another October to the calendar? Anybody with me on that one? Who do we need to see about this?
I don't know, but I sure would back you up on that arguement. Or should I say idea. I don't think there would be much arguement.
I'm out for Oct. I hope to be able to spend a couple weeks ballooning this year, driving cross country as chase crew for the America's Challenge http://aibf.org/Gas/Races/americaschallenge.php .
Hazel, You're absolutely right;, it is a Chinese Violet. Thanks!
Typos...... sigh

But Donna, if we have two Octobers, you'll have one month (combined) free!
I vote we replace August with October! Hip, hip, hooray!! (Good thinking, vossner!)
You get a new birthday, of your own choosing. I have five (or is it seven) family b-days in August, would rather they spread them out a little!
Submit it to the committee for approval. ;-)
YES YES!! The Queen of Dirtland hereby decrees the deletion of the month of August, and the addition of the 2nd month of October. This petition by Vossner makes her the officially appointed Potentate Delux of October 2nd Month, with all the duties and rewards of that esteemed position. Say one, Say All?
Aye!
hee hee
I need to petition for a new birthday too or can I just stay this age and not have anymore?
I keep forgetting to say that the girl with my daughter is named Elvia. She just saw her picture. She had me print it out for her(she and my daughter came to work with me)
If you were born in October, you're in luck! If another month... you'll have to check with The Queen of Dirtland! (Maybe she takes bribes.)
No, I was born in August and if it doesn't exist anymore, then I don't have a birthday(which would be okay, but then I won't get any presents).
Me to then I guess - I get to stay 25 for ever... wife is not going to like this one...
Ooops! I meant August, which means you're in! Pick your new birthday, or just stay your current age. (Which one are you gonna choose?)
So I can stay 25 for good? the only issue there is why and how can I retire if I stay 25? There are a few kinks here.... guess I might have to move mine... got to think about this one want to space it out to give my family time to get the good gifts...
Oh geez, I never thought about retiring. I guess I better pick a new birthday.
I dont - untill the last few weeks of school every year... wonder why?
I don't understand all this talk about re-tireing. I've been tired before, don't think I want to RE-tire!
LOL - I can when I am 55 with teaching - not that I am counting but that is only 30 more years...
I work for the state, figure I can afford to retire when I'm 92.
I thought state workers got all the breaks? What part do you work for?
My son was born in August. If there is no more August then he won't get past 24. It might not be so bad not being able to retire if you can stay 24 as long as you also feel 24. I felt pretty good at 24.
He'd better go to 25 first, for the car insurance rates. :-) I agree, 24 wouldn't be so bad as long as you get to still feel like 24.
Mitch, I work for the Texas Workforce Commission.
Hey Veronica,
You know the 'Tricolor' sweet potato vine we went in halves on at Milburger's? It has roots! When it lost all it's leaves on Monday I wasn't too sure it was going to make it, but yesterday I noticed it has a whole slew of roots just below the water line. [doing the happy dance]
After looking at it in the PlantFiles http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/11932/ I'm considering hanging on to it long enough to take a cutting from it for myself before gifting it to my DD. ;->
I'm so glad you mentioned that day that you liked variegated plants!
Donna, the tricolor potato vine is so beautiful. You and Veronica made a great purchase. I think it will sprout back out fairly quickly. I had mine in a hanging basket in part sun.
