Hiya drdon! ;-) Yes, we did have a wonderful time. DG folks seem to be the best! You and Pam can come to our next Nursery Date in Austin, or try for the one in Houston! lol
Mary Lee, oh yes, I sure did shop! The two plants that went home with Amelia are a scullcap, but they look different from the pink scullcap. The flowers are a very deep, bright pink, and the habit seems (to me, at least) a little looser, open. I also got a salvia that seemes to be a trailing type. Susie, what is the name of that one? You bought one too (of course, you bought almost all of the salvias, lol!) Oh, here's the name - salvia chionophylla "Quicksilver". I also bought a couple of 4" variegated fig ivy. Even though this wasn't a plant swap, you know you can't stop DG people. Donna brought me some bat face cuphea rootings, Hazel brought me a princess flower and a cosmos sulphureus, and Dave gave me a corkscrew vine!!
The San Antonio Nursery Date in pictures
Maggie, that reminds me ... I forgot to thank Donna for the bat face cuphea rootings and the ponytail palm. Thanks, Donna. Shoot, I wish y'all had been able to stay longer and had more room in your vehicles. I have a lot of plants that need thinned and y'all could have just dug up a bunch in my yard! On second thought ... it was so hot, this would not have been a good idea.
Susie, if you are coming back to go to Sea World let me know. I live about 5 minutes from it. I could give you the crepe myrtle cutting then if this is the one you and your husband wanted?

I have others which have rooted or have sprouted in containers, but I don't know which ones they are since I have several types and the containers have been moved around a lot. I usually just throw them away.
woohooo, Californyins invited to Texas...woohoo reprised! Wow maggiemoo, it sounds like you scored, nice list of aquisitions!
Are you collecting Salvias maggiemoo?
I didn't set out to collect them, but I seem to pick up more and more. They're just so pretty!(Guess I'll need to buy some more land to plant eveything!) Susie (calalily) is the real salvia collector. She not only bought a bunch, but she talked one of the employees into getting cuttings for her of some salvias they had in the garden (but didn't have any for sale)!! What a woman!!
so maggie - where is your photo? I wish this one was closer I would of had a blast! Still crossing my fingers about Austin...
Hope you make the Austin one, Mitch! I was behind the camera in all these pics. At least you can see that Rainbow Gardens is truly a neat nursery to visit when you go to San Antonio. When are you going?
Donna claims to have pictures I may want to pay her to destroy, we'll see. :-)
I will be down there the end of July, it is going to be hot. I have had good luck with Buecys (sp?) Flea Market right on the North side of San Ann so will hit there and Htop is getting me directions on how to get to the Rainbow right on 35. I still am not sure if I will be there Fri and Sat, or Fri Sat Sun, or maybe just Fri.. Will be there for some training so hae to wait on them to let me know! LOL...
Oh, I just remembered, I also got a pink Indigo Bush! See, if Amelia hadn't 'fessed up, I would never have known...
I also have a pink Indigo Bush and a sunset hyssop (Thank you, maggie!) and some other stuff I will list when my brain isn't dead.
Right now I'm going to start posting my pictures. And not to worry, Buffy, as long as the pictures are closed mouth nothing leaves my camera that's not flattering to you. ;->
1) This is Jorge and his daughter at Milburgers. Although the quality of this photo is lousy the subject matter is precious.
OMG you guys had a blast!!!!! Wish I could go to the Austin one (can't) will not miss houston for the world. But please let's make it when it's cooler. I will simply die in this heat.
The pictures are fantatic, everyone.
Great pictures...I just loved seeing the group...I too am determined to show up for one of the trips.
Hazel was a lifesaver! When she went home to get plants she brought cold drinks back for everyone.
drdon, it is great that you stopped by to visit our Texas Gardening Forum. If you are ever out our way in person let us know.
Mitch, be sure to let me know when you do come to San Antonio. Maybe I could come by the nursery when you are visiting and be able to meet you in person if you want.
The people working at the Rainbow Gardens Nursery are so very nice. Dan gave me one of the plants that he had at his apartment and I also received a beautiful blooming bromeliad from another employee. But, I have never asked for cuttings ... Susie has given me an idea now. :o)
Mitch, you ought to check out some of the nurseries along I-10 in San Antonio that JoT (new member) recommended for succulents: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/522178/
Donna.... you still got me. Not a single picture of my good side. Oh yeah, I don't have one! :-(
Hazel, I saw some Crocosmia "lucifer" in bloom on HGTV late Sat night. Beautiful! Why didn't I gt one from you? (Can you bring a bulb to the Nov RU?) That was the show I saw that said they should be in partial shade, and they were talking about England!

Maggie, I have some bulbs I bought at Rainbow Gardns that I never planted because I didn't quite know if they needed full sun or partial shade. I had read on the labelling "full sun", but as you know a lot of times that means filtered sun or partial shade here. At Rainbow Gardens the little sign they had by the 'Lucifer' stated partial shade, but the container directions said full sun. I don't know if the bulbs are any good anymore because they sprouted and then shriveled up because I didn't plant them. The actual plants I bought at Rainbow have not bloomed for me yet. I can mail you some bulbs and you can see if they sprout if you want them now.
Hazel, if you don't mind, I'd like to try. I've killed so many things it almost doesn't hurt any more. :-) Can I send you something to mail them in? SASE or the like?
OH MY! You guys had such a blast, and I am so sorry I could not make it. I hope the next one is on a weekend that I don't hve to work. I work the 1st, 3rd, and 5th weekends. And in Nov. I will be returning from the RU in Chili on the 1st weekend, so I have to work the 2nd and 3rd weekends, so I will miss that RU too!! Dratz!!. I will keep watching for the get togethers, and I am starting cuttings etc. in case I do get to visit with any of you. All the pictures of DGers and plants are great. Glad you all had so much fun WITHOUT Me!! LOL SEEYA, Margie
Just email your address to me and I'll send you some.
Htop - it is going to be the last weekend in July - I know I will Fri afternoon to head around and Sat early morning. My parents might come up to take Chi (my son) for a few days. They have only gotten to see him three times in the two years of his life so they might make it up on Sat morning. So I will most likly be hitting the garden centers Fri afternoon. I would love to meet up - een if the heat might kill us!
Okay, 75154......you're so going to either frown or laugh at me! I--for gosh knows why--had you pictured in my mind as an elderly'ish man! Good grief! [embarrassed]
I have a 2 yr. old too, so we MUST get together and visit The Greenery (or any of your local greenhouses) sometime! We'll have something in common, "Oh, how lovely! No! Don't HURT the pretty plant!" lol
MKJ
LOL - nope I am only 25
oh and you forgot - dont eat that!
He's not elderly-ish, but he is a man! (You are, aren't you, Mitch?)
Isn't that funny how we percieve each other through the keyboard? I know most people think I am about 21 yrs old, tall and slender... NOT!! :-)
Hazel, I didn't ask for the cuttings, he offered them and of course I couldn't turn him down! Now, if I could just remember what he said they were. Ya know that picture of me and you thought I was telling Kip a big story, well, that's probably one of the times I lost my little cart full of mine and Maggie's flowers and I was trying to remember where it was! I think I was probably saying "I KNOW I left it here somewhere" lol.
Susie, I meant to tell you yesterday how much I admire you for potting up the plants yesterday. My personal goal yesterday was to not sweat! I managed to get everything watered, but it took all day. At least I accomplished my goal of not sweating! (The only thing I've really accomplished this year.)
:-)
I wish I could say I didn't sweat yesterday! It was hot as blue blazes out there, but at least I picked a shady spot to work.
I still have about half a dozen plants(not counting the 6-pack of vinca) to transplant plus that tapioca tree is going to need a bigger pot pretty soon.
