Limit line length?

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Dave, is it possible to limit line length? When someone tries to send a message with a long unbroken line do not accept the message and give them a chance to change it.

As in something that makes the screen get very very wide so it's hard to read the postings without scrolling right and left? I'll second that.

I will also add that the majority of folks who've innocently done this in threads they've posted to have been open to fixing it once they were alerted.

It would just be nice to not ever have to deal with even a gentle post from someone saying "Whoa! Trim that line down!" :)

Been there, done that, had the embarrassment before fixing it. *giggle*

The text wraps automatically unless ones computer is screwed up. There may be settings somewhere for that feature but I haven't come across them.

To put a limit on the hometown name may be a good idea:

Ulrich, the system breaks lines only at a space. A long line of *'s for instance will not break. Look here http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/518339/ the fifth post is a very long line without a space. Unfortunately several of us have spoken to the poster and he does doesn't understand.

I should have thought of that. So THAT is why MS Word has optional nonbreaking hyphens!

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

OK, Ulrich I will leave it up to you to make sure that Dave sees this. I seem to remember that you were quite successful in the past.

I about split my sides reading the above two messages.

OK, it is Monday now, tadah!

So sorry! It showed up fine on my end. I didnt realize it looked different to others. I changed it.
On my screen, I can see everything. I just did a long line of X's with no break, it wrapped and I saw every X. Even Yasir's posts look the same as everyone else's. I know nothing abt computers, maybe its the application? I am running WindowsXP. Anyway, I will try & be more considerate in the future.

RachaelBee, a long string of characters with no spaces looks fine until you preview it or submit it ;o)

Rachel, this was about the "Author" column where you said how far from Sacramento you are. Thanks for fixing that.

well,sinceD
So what say ye your Daveness? is there a solution in sight?

I have already coded up the solution and it works fine on my staging area, but when I upload the changes to the server it's not working. It's a strange thing that I need to look more into.

Whoa! did you fix it already? O did you have to mannually delete that line?
It was there and now it is all gone ;~)

I manually deleted it. :)

Dave, you make me chuckle.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I have never noticed this problem on my computer. Could it be the size of the monitor and the resolution you have it set at?

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Nope. It's a real problem. Perhaps now a former problem, but real nonetheless ;o)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

weird - I'd never noticed it. maybe I wasn't around when it was happening.
