Another GJ feature - Status

Firstly, you can ignore this feature if you want, but I really wanted it, and Trish refused to even use the journal for her plants unless I put the feature in.

hence, it's in. Here's the explanation of it:

It's a new type of category called "Status". Everybody who already has a journal has (by default) 4 statuses already inputted:

Not yet sown
Growing indoors
Growing in garden
Finished

So, when you add or edit an item, you can change the status to something else. For example:

You are planning to plant some Brandywine tomato seeds. You haven't sown the seeds yet, so when you create the entry, you select "Not yet sown".

Later on, you go to the "Show Not Yet Sown" page and it shows you only the items you haven't sown yet.

So then one day you actually sow these seeds. You'll then edit the entry and change the status to "Growing Indoors".

Then 5-7 weeks later you transplant the thing to the garden, you'll update the Status to say that it's growing in the garden.

The biggest use of this feature will be that it allows you to only view the items in a particular status-type.

Now the news of the morning: the status type has been reworked a bit to allow you to add/remove/edit your own statuses, per Trish's request. You work on your statuses in much the same way as you work on the categories. Click on 'statuses' in the journal menu.

If you edit an existing status name, it'll change all the items in your journal that are attached to that status to the new status name, so be careful with this.

Oh, by the way, if you don't specify a status-type when you add an entry to your journal, it'll show up with a status of "Unknown".

Any questions - post them here!

Thanks so much, Dave. I'll use the journal now :)
I had so many entries that just didn't fit the "Status", I really had a big mess on my hands. This will make it much easier to keep things organized. I'll say it for everyone else: "You Da Man"!

:)
Trish

I hope it works out for you. The journal gets more and more complex as the day goes by. I can't wait to see how much the journal is capable of by the end of the season.
