This was a shock.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I was thinking really hard today, about why Kell's brugs bloom this way. I figured it out! They are under so much pressure to bloom, bigger, darker, with longer tendrils, smell good....it is just too much! They are turning red from the exerting themselves! LOL

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

nope
she has pepto in her soil

Corte Madera, CA

it's so gorgeous, kell. i have brug envy.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Double Woozer!!! Kell, that is.......words can't even describe the color. You could call her Coral Pepto!
:) Donna

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

...or even PEPTO GLORY !!!

Did someone ask us to name her?? or what??? :-)

Whitewater, WI

Oh My Goodness Gracious............... STUNNING!!!!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

What a rich, beautiful color - a show stopper for sure!!! I just know she would love my garden...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks all!! You guys are so supportive. I am going to visit her today. I had no labels with me when I pollinated, I used masking tape. LOL. So today I need to go put on real tags.

LOL Margie, I love ideas and yours are great. I am not to good on following thru though and making things official. I do this more for fun. But surely a name with Glory in it would be make it even more special.

Everyones ideas are so good. I love the idea of adding pepto to my names. Maybe all my brugs I make should have pepto in it. LOL. Even the orange ones.

Frannie, my favs are the low calyx, exposed necks do not catch my fancy. I use EP to catch the pink color, that does catch my fancy. LOL. The neck sometimes comes along with it.

Donna, you are right, she looks coral at times. I now have a few brugs that look this dark at times. They start out pink and I think I have a pepto winner then they age and get the red tinge in them. At first I thought it was the L'A coming out but some have no L'A in the mix. So maybe CC is right, I have something in my soil. LOL. I can't wait till I see them bloom elsewhere. Though now that I think of it, none but Sexy Lady have gone at my house. The others were split between 2 other locations. Might be our cool nights then?

I promised my DH cocktails in the courtyard tonight. So I best get going and make sense of my garden outside room. It is a mess of plants right now. If you see me back on here today, scold me!!

Kell, what vibrant colors you have in your garden. Need close up pictures so we know what plants we want...lol.
:) Donna

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LOL PG!

Kell, I know you'll enjoy having a cocktail with your husband in your courtyard tonight. It must be breathtaking sitting amongst all of the pretty flower's I'm seeing. :-) Have fun tonight with the DH. Make it fun, hey, put on your bikini and be leave a note in the house for him to meet ya out there...and be waiting, hehehehe....That ought to spice it up a bit tonight along with the intoxicating aroma's out there too!

Hugs
Julie

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

No spanking me now for showing up here. I have been pollinating! If I were to put on a bikini Julie, my DH might never be seen from again or he would have lots more than 1 drink to get over the shock. LOL. Best to wear a burka at all times and let him still have some delusions of grandeur.

Here is another angle. I do have lots of color. I love color. Clashing color. Gaudy color. I think I enjoy it to excess because I have a terrible eye disease that steals ones sight! I must store up all the color I can just in case.

Thumbnail by Kell
SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I don't think it's gaudy at all, maybe I have the same eye disease...I think it's beautiful and peaceful...

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

kell since you want to put Pepto in your brug names maybe you better name one of them Pepto-bismal it's pink LOL

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

I'm with PGirl, closeups and names please, so we can make requests.LOL I have a list going----Your flowers are stunning. What is the pretty blue in bottom right corner?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I love mixing colors to Kell.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Bward it looks like a clematis to me but it's hard to tell for sure without the close up pictures...lol. Is the bright reddish pink a bougie? What's the bluish tall tree above the bougie?
:) Donna

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

That is a fairly new clematis, Donna. It has the longest bloom period of any clematis. A new hybrid.

From the Plant Files
This clematis is 1 of 4 of the Raymond Evison Signature Series developed for the Bicentenary Plant Collection to celebrate 200 years of the Royal Horticultural Society, the United Kingdom's leading gardening association.

These clematis were developed for their strength, resistance to disease, and long flowering habit. They are supposedly a great improvement over the older cultivars. They have the longest blooming time of any other clematis for it goes from June thru October.

The 4 clematis in this collection by Raymond Evison are
Wisley, Rosemoor, Hyde Hall and Harlow Carr, all are named after the four RHS gardens.

Yes, a bougie standard in a pot. Just about all woken up from its winter sleep. The tree behind it is a Solanum rantonetti trained to be a tree.

very nice color can true reds be far off in the future?? :-)

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

Wow, that is awesome. Keeping my fingers crossed for a pretty pink from one of my seedlings.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

That is so cool to have all four them together!
:) Donna

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I sure thought I had posted to this thread. Kell, the first pictures are just gorgeous! And the one you posted on June 3rd is glorious!!! I love the color on all of them.

Myrtle Beach, SC

That evening shot is the most gorgeous bloom I have ever, ever, EVER seen. It took my breath away. I love the deep dark pinks, the more pepto the better :))
What a gorgeous place you have Kell.
God Bless all :))

Beautiful brugs!

Northern California, CA

Quoting:
I was thinking I would start tracking temp and humidity when I get such dark blooms. I noticed with my last dark one I had incredibly dark the day before it rained. Then the next ones to open were much lighter.

KELL!

I am holding you personally responsible for that wet stuff coming out of the sky this morning! It's JUNE! LOL

So check those blooms to see if they are lighter in the next few days.....makes sense because most brugs are paler in cooler weather, at least here in my garden.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Candy, I'm going to check myself this season, but I think mine were darker when it was cooler. I'll make pics of the new ones and check them with last year's crop...I know they don't last as long when it's hot, but it seems the flushes are larger when it's hot...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Great colors on that brug and I'm a sucker for clematis. Looks like a brighter purple than Jack Manii. I wonder if he's in the genes. So far (fingers crossed) I've never had any of the problems I hear about clematis. My only problem is once they get established ... they put a V in vigorous. Glad they don't spread by runners. They'd be a nightmare.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Your flowers are gorgeous Kell. I meant to have gardens like that. Y'all can send the rain this way, none in the 2 week forecast and we are so dry.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Candy, it is my fault. The other day on Dave's I boldy stated that we were done with rain now till next Novemeber. And look what happened. I can never be right. LOL

I just potted that clematis in a bright blue pot. Do you think it will do OK in a pot, Blaine? I have to figure out a trellis that will fit the pot. I am anticipating loads of blooms all summer. I hope I will not be disappointed though it wouldn't be the first time I fell for a hype. What are the problems with clematis that you mentioned, Blaine??

LOL Susie, as if you do not have much better!

Thanks everyone. I hope I have lots of pods on her now. I want to see the shape of her pod.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Kell - actually clematis can do great in a container. The main thing is to keep the roots cool. That's rule 1. Watch that plastic pot. If it's in full sun you know it'll heat up. Heavy mulch or cover the soil with big rocks will keep root temp and evaporation down

Don't you already have some clematis? Well if not, watch out with the brug fert program. Clematis are one of those that will almost forget about blooming if they get lots of fertilizer. Especially if there's high nitrogen.

Otherwise I've read and heard a lot of complaints about mildew, insects and wilt. I think they have they're own "clematis wilt". But I've never had a problem and I have them all around the house. The Jack Manii (my originals) get too huge in front of the garage. Plastered against the south facing bricks and siding in full blazing sun on a black driveway. Part of their excessive growth probably has to do with me and my visitors all emptying that last little sip of beer on them before crushing and chunking in the recyle bin.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You know Blaine, some idiot is going to believe you and start pouring beer on their plants. So if it is NOT true you better fess up before I go out there with the 6 pack I just bought! LOL

Well what luck, I planted my clematis in ceremic. I am into gaudy ceremic pots now. I needed something to match my gaudy flowering plants. LOL

It was raining out there..........brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. A hummer was buzzing around though.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Here is a great find I got yesterday. Speak of gaud. I just fell in love at first sight. It is huge too!! I just know when Susie sees it she will try to get it away from me. Though her fav seems to be bright pepto pink pots. Electric blue may be too quiet for her.

I am having so much fun deciding which plant to put in here. What combo! I think I will put a standard . Maybe a gaudy tree hibiscus. I have a great double pink and a double red tree, both in 5 gallon pots. They each need a much bigger pot.

Well to be honest Kell, I'll take part of the blame for the rain. :(

I spent yesterday staging my daughter's house for sale and washed all the windows inside and out.

She just called to tell me somehow I left "spots" all over them. Yeah sure.....LOL

GREAT pot Kell!

I have been in my garden and at this computer too much...I need to get out and get me some of those beautiful pots!!!
Shirleymd1 is bringing me some clematis from her visit to Chalk Hill Nursery on Friday and I would like to put at least one or two or the three of them in containers!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Hi Coup on the pots kell and the clematis will be happy. In fact, the thick underplanting is great of course! I really like the color on that other pot. Looks like you'll have to have a brace on the backside though. With that vase shape, I could imagine a monster plant you're capable of growing teaching that pot everything it wanted to know about 'top-heavy'.

everything about the beer is true... believe it or nuts. :)
...hmmmm? I need to talk with my girlfriends.. I mean plants and find out how come none of them are top-heavy!!

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Love that pot, kell. Great color!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

oh I think the pot is great. I stay away from ceramic. DH is not to gentle with my pots when he mows lol

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Beautiful blue pots, Kell! I bought a couple of new ones at the annual June sale, ceramic too, one I really like, but the other one I had to buy for size, cream/umber, I really wanted blue or teal, but it was the only one that would fit my Meyer's Lemon, such a fun plant, it deserved a room of it's own...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are so bad Blaine! LOL. OK, I will try beer on them. I will try anything once.

Gosh, your daughter is moving too, Candy? Far?

Gee, Shirley is coming Friday? So soon? You better get busy, Margie.

I agree Donna, DHs as a rule are deadly with anything that can break.

I will take a pic when I pot it up.

Corte Madera, CA

that's it, kell. brugs and roses. that's all i'm growing.

=)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Annapet, come visit us on the coleus forum. I bet you have room for some of those too. LOL
