This years annual Kinetic sculpture races

I had a great time taking these yesterday and enjoying the mood of frivolity that takes over the area. We wanted to go back today for the water challange but could'nt make it.

This first entry was called the MAGIC BUS It was huge!

They called this one WET PAINT

And for those who were looking for parts to start their own entries for next years race there were many offerings like this around.

Shark anyone?

And a side view. Several of those eyes moved independantly and the whole thing was a huge hit with the crowds.

This one was on it's way home when we got there.

The FRILLED DRAGON entry lost a part of it's tail before reaching town but still made an impressive showing

There were TWO PIGS and A WOLF

JITTER BEAN seemed very stimulating

And this entry CYCLOP could have been the Before shot for EXTREME MAKEOVER' after shots

There was a SEA SLUG

And a SCARDEY CAT who was chased by a pack of dogs

There were other entries as well, but we could not wait for them to make their way into town (the sand Dunes slow them down and the straggle in.)

While waiting the Scaredy Cat dogs made use of the facilities and sniffed each other.

lizh, I am glad you enjoyed it. We had a great time and the whole atmosphere of silliness is rather contagious as grownups forget to act old and let their hair down to have fun with the kids.

Don, this event takes place every Memorial Weekend. If you can make it next year I know you will have a great time!


In all there were 42 entries this year. And they have to have all equiptment on board for the water race the whole course. The unicycle's backpack is an inflatable raft! Rather cleaver in the simplicity of it.

The Wet Paint have their baffles overhead, the Magic Bus was rigged to act like a paddle boat,

They could gain points by carrying barnacles (passengers that could not assist but were on board the entire race)
