Baseball Game

Neat pictures, Kelli. I never thought about stadiums having A/C running with the domes open. Makes sense, though, since cold air falls and heat rises.

The tour guide girl said that it costs $3 to open the roof. I couldn't even begin to guess what the air conditioning bill is, roof closed or open. She said that with the roof closed, the temperature is about 75F on the lower level and 80F on the higher levels. Outside, it only got to a high of 97F, so that would not have been a max power usage day.

A few miles away, in the old part of town - the really old part of town - are the remains of an ancient Hohokam Indian town. This is a ballcourt built around 800AD. How's that for "the old ball game"?

No one knows how this game was played. They stopped building ballcourts around 1100AD and the Hohokam civilization died out by about 1400AD and left no record.

That's fascinating! We live near an ancient Indian mound, so things like this really interest me. Made me want to learn more. Check out these links:

The Hohokam site we were at is called Pueblo Grande. I have more pictures of it that I'll post, probably in the photo forum. I'll probably post them tomorrow. Right now I'm kinda watching the Angels game, and DH is talking to me, and I'm not that good at multitasking. The Angel game is pretty pitiful, so I might be back.

Here's some more info on the Hohokam ballcourts. http://phoenix.gov/PUEBLO/dfritual.html
