Colors for House

Windermere, FL(Zone 9b)

We are in the middle of major repairs to our house due to last year's hurricanes. We needed a new roof, but instead of replacing with the same cedar color we went with a beautiful light gray. To complicate the color choice we have some Florida fieldstone on the front of our house. The two look fine together because the new roof brings out the lighter colors in the stone instead of the orange/browns, but now we're stressing over the colors to paint the house. I think we'll end up killing each other if we don't fine a mediator. Any suggestions as to the type of professional we'd look for to help with the decision. We really want to make the house stand out, like something you'd see on HGTV. Margaret

Can you post some pictures of the current siding, the roof and the fieldstone, plus some views of the roof + stone (with or without the siding)?

I think my home may have a similar color-scheme "challenge" as yours, although my orangey-buff colors come from the brick rather than stone. (The former owners thought brick red for the roof and shutters was the way to go - ewwwwww! We now have charcoal-gray architectural shingles and dark olive-green shutters. Much more subtle and graceful than that red-orange color (JMHO - everybody's got their own idea of what looks good! ;o)

Terry, I'll try to post a pic or two sometime this weekend. Margaret

I know that when we had siding put on last month I found a site from Heartland Vinyl Siding that allowed you to play with the roof, shutters, trim and color of the house. Maybe a program like that will help. Look on some of the major paint sites (ie Sherman Williams, Pittsburgh etc) so see if they have image software.
