WEEKEND CONTEST

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Goes to Monday at 9PM Pacific time. The winner gets a brug that is fitting as the grand prize for such a contest.

Post your ugliest brug. The brug that should have been put out of its misery a long time ago. The brug that is the scapegoat of your garden. The one you have misused and abused and feel so guilty about. Or maybe the brug you just hate. LOL. The bane of your existence. The one only a mother could love.

This is my sad story. This is a Susie seedling, and it is on its 3rd year do you believe. It has never bloomed though it did have leaves at one time in its life, just not for about a year. LOL. It won't grow and it won't die. It is is in suspended animation. Its only function seems too be snail food. The stem has bites taken all over it.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Shoot! I just threw three away. Hey...I'll get 'em back!

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Kell-you are to funny. No one can top your stem. LOL

Knoxville, TN

Yep Kell, I thing you can safely give yourself the ugliest Brug award. I do have soom at the end of the yard that I am hiding, so will have to check them out. I do fear, however, that I cannot beat you!

The poor thing looks as if it's trying to escape over your fence....
This should be fun Kell.
Looking forward to seeing all the UGly Brugs some of us have.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Darn, I just got started and so haven't killed any yet.. lol

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

This is not that bad, just dissapointing, it is the very first Brug I purchased, it is over 5' tall, and all it does is loose leaves, and grow, loose leaves and grow, no Y and no other growth but the leaves at the top.

Doris...I hate to say it, but your brug will never win in this contest! ;-(
It has green leaves! THAT is a sign a GOOD health! Sorry pal...you are going to have to do better than that to win!
Margie

Weimar, TX(Zone 8b)

My leaves with holes in them are ugly to me but ------ that stalk is pretty much a winner.
Kell that makes me feel good that you don't give up on those - you keep on trying. That will be encouraging to me as a new brug grower.

I think all will agree, this is a SAD excuse for a Brug!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Gee Mel. what did you do to that? It looks like it died a bad death.
The brug police may come by soon to interview you!!

Doris, foliar feed. Why is the ground around it a little white??? What do you feed it? And how often?

My picture is a lesson also on why you should stake all and stake early.

Hey guys, you best all confess your sins and get posting for I sure do not want to win the prize. I finally thought I had figured out a why to unload it. Making me keep it would be too cruel.

Crumpler, WV

Kell,

I don't have time to get a pic of my ugly brug. Gotta go cut my step-dads grass while it is not raining. But I'll get a pic posted later. Yes, it has leaves growing on it but does it look bad. LOL

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I'll have to go see what I can find, because I generally don't take pictures of the 'ugly' ones. Several of them have been tossed.

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

Geez, Kell, I thought that was a huge snake until I enlarged the picture. Don't think anyone can beat that one.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

My camera shot craps,or I could win this one,I have one makes that look like a keeper!LOL! Maybe they are related, mine has that nice curve to it also.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH...I got it!!! The PRIZE as befitting this kind of contest... Cool way to get rid of yours without shooting it in the head!!! LOL

Photos this evening...gotta find the best of many!!! I was sent some sticks acouple of years ago and tucked them in to grow...totally inappropriate planting but they are hanging on!!! LOL

(Mary) Poway, CA(Zone 10a)

Oh dear, guess I should have taken a picture of the brug BEFORE I became a repented brown thumb. I had one that looked like H--- a few months ago but looks happy as could be now. It was just a stick with 2 moth eaten looking leaves on it. Now it is covered in glorious leaves.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I can't believe I didn't see this just ONE hour ago. We just put this poor thing out of it's misery - should have got some pics of it first. I didn't realize there was a contest. Here is a pic of the Isabella X from 4-27-05 - when we were "trying" to save her. She's a very mangled mess - had to be tied up even. Wish so bad I would have taken a pic of her today before she went bye bye. She was not only a mangled mess, but the leaves were badly eaten by something - and some of them all brown - she was GROSS looking, had been neglected next to the garbage can - and probably would have won this contest. But I'll just post the pic from before - mangled but green.

Or - perhaps you'd like a pic of something I am trying to ressurect. I'll get a pic of it later.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Get a terrible one, Karrie. Hey guys, promises, promises. I just know you all have at least 1 that needs a trip to the dump. LOL

Since you all were so mean to my baby, I just poured Messenger all over it. A true test of Messenger's powers.

Carol, for you if you win, I will find the most perfect brug for you! LOL

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Are we limited to one entry? This poor baby is a cutting that I have been nursing since last fall. Just won't do a thing.

Thumbnail by LindaSC
San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

NOOOOOOO, bring them all on. LOL

Linda, do you have Messenger? Spray it and then foliar feed every week with MG. I have had those in the past and that seems to get them going.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I'll give that a try, it's Golden Lady so I'd like for it to make it.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Keep an eye on its nodes for SB too!

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

The only bads one I have left is a cutting that took, and then died and another Isabella X that I chopped almost to the ground (y's and all). I've been watering the cutting, hoping I might see some life from it. I could just shoot myself in the foot for having thrown that one away today before seeing this thread - the horror! (I cut it into small pieces first)

San Jose, CA(Zone 9a)

Well...how about I show you my Isabelle cutting...she has been this way for weeks !!! I accidentally broke her off a larger cutting and rooted her and put her in soil...but nothing, but tiny leaves....

This is a pretty sad looking brug. She ended up in the compost pile last fall...

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Geez, look at the horn worm on that poor baby, Gretchen. No wonder the brug was a little ill. It was being eaten alive. LOL!

Indiantown, FL

Here's my entry. It is a seedling of Sweet Knightii. All the others are normal, this one looks like it is kin to Culebra. It is 2 months old.

LOL, all the secrets you've (we've) all been keeping. Funny how we only show our pretty ones.

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Oh yes it is! I came home from vacation last summer to find that ugly cat on the poor brug! You can see my knee-high grass in the background. Was a sad day!!!

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Kell the ground is not white, it is just freshly dug, and seeds planted, I do foliar feed I give her Messenger, and I put MG granuals on the ground befor I water three times a week

GOD's Green Earth, United States(Zone 8b)

Doris -- I would re-think the way you're fertilizing your plants. Why don't you try mixing the miracle gro according to the instructions on the box. One tablespoon of granules per one gallon of water. Mix it up and pour into the ground at the base of your brug. I think once a week would be sufficient. I only feed mine once a week, as I don't want to burn them. You may be burning yours by throwing the granules on the ground. Just a thought.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

How's this for ugly?

It took two years to bloom.... the flowers brown before they even finish opening.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

These missing seedlings where just located, in the compost pile, under rubbish, I have no idea how they got there, but one of them is the ONLY seed that sprouted in a fav cross, my heart is broken, but I'm going to put them in intensive care and transfuse them and hope for the best. Shoot, maybe they will win the contest...
