What is the difference between smiling :) and this kind of smiling :-)

Actually, the dash in between is usually much longer, but I can't find that on this keyboard !

I like this kind of smile, but many folks do not recognize it as a smile

The longer dash between the eyes and mouth is accomplished on a Mac by "Option key plus lower-case dash key". Lord only knows how many keystrokes it takes for all y'all Windows' acolytes.

I'd guess personal choice, same meaning.

As far as I know there isn't any difference... Just one smiley has a nose :-) and one smiley doesn't :).

It all depends on whether my left hand hits the shift key ":" or not ";" , and if I go for the dash "-" or lower-case "o", which in turn conveys a wink ;o) or two open eyes :-)

I use a lot of them, like é as in sauté... and ñ as in mañana.
