Thank you Donna for the encouragement with regard to my arborea seedlings!! After I read all this, I dug mine up, put them in big pots in the shade and i intend to baby them, at least one season. I had noticed that my seedlings, in several hours of hot sun, swooned - they had to be moved from their original location anyway - I cannot imagine why I left them in the hot sun that long, I just thought they needed to adjust. They sound too good to be true, so that's always an indication that they will not grow here, whew.
Please tell me the difference in an arborea and true arborea white, and why and which ones are fuzzy and which ones aren't?? Are there arborea colors other than white??
arborea ?
Uh oh, can I grow this in my warm Zone 10? I tried growing B. sanguinea in my zone, but it died pretty rapidly.
Sherrylike,
I do mean the true B. arborea white. I bought a copy of Preissel's book Brugmansia and Datura and fell in love with B. arborea. I'm still waiting for a copy of the translation of Monika's book. How soon after they germinate can I tell if I have the real thing? If I don't have the real thing, anyone willing to trade for some seed?
Veronica
Where to start!! LOL. CC that is a fantastic picture. Outstanding!! Judy, I don't think we could actually see the fuzz in the picture, but didn't you think the leaves looked soft and velvety?
Kell, I am so glad to here that about my seedling. But, she sent me 4 seeds and only one germinated. It is a real healthy looking plant though, but I don't think it will bloom this year. Darn.
Veronica I am going to have to get Priessel's book now just to see the B. Arborea. I just got Monika's book from Susie and haven't had a chance to go through it to see if she has a picture of one. She has such gorgeous pictures of her plants that once I start looking I won't get anything else done. I think that might be a good winter read.
Except for the potting which I am doing now. Wearing that drill out on the pots.
Mine just might do good this year though because we are sure off to a cruddy start weatherwise and moving potted plants to re-pot guess what I found amongst them? A super healthy Sang. I knew I had one somewhere in there and figured it was probably a little thing with a seed attached to the head and it wasn't! It wasn't huge, but sure is strong. Got my fingers crossed for it.
Jeanette
Well, they will look all alike Jnette, so 1 will do it! LOL. Then if you want more you can do cuttings.
Gee Clare, I don't know. Shoot, you still have to send me the gaudy plumeria. LOL Arbores are much easier than Sangs, at least that is my experience.
Loretta, you have such discipline!! I need to do more work and less Dave's! !
Veronica, Was the Brug and Dat book written by Ulrich Priessel and Georg Priessel? And is it in English or does it need a translation? Thanks, Jeanette
LOL, Kell. You got it, but you're going to have to send me a cutting from a flowering tree! I'm not waiting 3 years for a seedling to bloom! LOL! I'll find the prettiest, gaudiest pink I have and send it to you!
Jeanette, The Priessel book is in English.
