arborea ?

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

I was just about to buy some arborea seeds but before i did need to know: they are the only ones that will come true, right?
i mean, if you plant an arborea seed, you'll get a true aborea plant, not a hybrid, right?
thanks
jen
p.s., if that doesnt sound right, blame it on the pain meds, i had surgery today and still a little loopy, lol

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

MS Jen according to a book you can do a:
arborea X arborea
arborea X flava
arborea X sanguinea
arborea X vulcanicola

arborea is also self fertile.

I am guessing that your arborea seed are from self fertile.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

delisa,
not sure the site just said "brugmansia aborea seeds".
i just want the plain arborea that everyone says has the most incredible smell.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Jen, many of these seeds listed as aborea aren't aborea seeds. Unless you know the seller, I'd be weary of them.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the heads up on the possibility of them not being true.
Gosh knows i dont want to grow something and then offer it later and it not be true to name.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

LOL I grew two batches of them but knew from the leaves, they weren't Aborea

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I have an arborea that selfs. The seedlings come true. But as mentioned, arborea means tree and you would have to be careful that you're buying seeds from a real arborea. I've seen all sorts of brugs called arborea just because they are tree-like. Do you have a pic of the Mom?

Hubbard, OR(Zone 8a)

I have an arborea that I just harvested 2 pods off of. If you would like some seed drop me a note Jen and we can work something out.

Jeremiah

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

Jeremiah is a knowledgable fellow. He sent me the most beautiful hydrangea last year called Lemon Wave. I have an Arborea too. The leaves are very distinctive. If you would like to see some pictures LMK and I can post them.

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

please do post them!! there seems to be confusion as to what a true arborea is.
jeremiah, i emailed you

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Yes, I would be interested in seeing them also. Thanks, Jeanette

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Loretta! Good to see you here. I miss you!!

Hubbard, OR(Zone 8a)

Very nice to see you Loretta. Shaman's Dream is doing well, glad to hear that the hydrangea is happy. Hope everything is well with you.

Jeremiah

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Hi Loretta. Yes, Jeremiah is a wonderful brug dad, he sent me two blooming Arborea, 3'-4' tall. They are ready to bloom again and I too, have a seedpod. I love them.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Jeramiah was selling on ebay last winter. I bought a plant from him. Yes it was a real nice, healthy one.

Jeanette

Hubbard, OR(Zone 8a)

How is your Shredded White doing Jeanette?? Thanks for the kind words everyone :) Makes me smile.

Jeremiah

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Hasn't bloomed yet, but it will. Jeanette

Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

I know I have bought an arborea that ended up looking just like Candida Double White! I didnt have CDW so it was okay. Now finally have a real arborea.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I bought some seeds from the other people and Susie Poland sent me some Arborea seeds. I hope they are the real McCoy.

I have True Arborea White seedlings that are really healthy and big - please help me wish that they bloom this growing season!!!! Jeanette, if I have something at the end of the season that you would like, I'd love to swap with you for a Shredded White cutting, if it tolerates my hot, humid weather. It is fantastic here today, I hope all of you have a fun weekend!!

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Sherry,

Put this in your tickler file and send me something in the fall and we'll see what we can do. I would put it in mine but I don't have one. LOL

Jeanette

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I use Entourage for Mac and I have just what we need Jeanette, and I'll set it today. Thanks!!!!

Moscow, TN(Zone 7a)

The leaves are fuzzy, similar to the plant Lamb's Ears just not as thick. Mine is just now leafing out but will get some close ups of the leaves tomorrow and post.
Jeremiah, do you have any of the Arborea crosses? I really want one. I am glad your SD is doing well and likes the Pacific NW, I sure do.
Kell, me too! Last semester's workload was heavy and I had to put myself on restriction from the forums. I was thinking about you though.
Hey Gloria!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

If anyone has thre true B. arborea, please post photos. I just bought "B. arborea" seed and want to know (If and when they germinate.) if I have the true form. I read that not many Brugmansia seeds are viable.

beautiful Gloria. Sure wish we could grow them here. Jen they will not grow here. Is way to hot. Tried to grow 3 of them and once humidity kicks in they die in a matter of days. Doesn't matter what you do. Inside there is not enough humidity with A/C on

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Hello.........Donna. Glad to see you on here!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I should have known! I have two nice seedlings and one, not quite as nice. They've been doing well, but we've only had a couple of hot days...shoot!!

Gulfport, MS(Zone 8a)

awww, man, are you serious, donna?
how are you?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

still pretty puney Jen.

Sherry the little zone difference might be enough. Keep it in the shade and cross your fingers

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Hibiscus - give us a close up pix of a leaf if you don't mind so we can see the Fuzz.

Thank you,

Judy

Jnette, if you got them from Sue, they are the real thing. Hers are even a bit different Ithink. I am trying to remember the story, but she has an arborea that is a cross I think. And it was so pretty so I am so envious you got her seeds.

Gloria, your arborea is so pretty. Don't you just love the scent?

Mine blooms almost 12 months a year. It is amazing. It loves it here in my cool climate.

Veronica, lots of B Arborea seeds sold are just regular suav. seeds I believe from all I have heard. They mean just brug trees not True Arborea seeds. Most seeds are viable if they are fresh enough. The older they get the less germination you will get. Good luck!!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

her is a picture of all 4 stages of arborea

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Interesting photo CC, to have all 4 phases in one shot. What's with that pod?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am not going to comment on CC's pod for we must encourage her since she has a live brug there with actual flowers and leaves. Good Job CC!!! LOL. Hey, did your peacock attack it? LOL Susie has Bleu, you can have your peacock.

Arborea pods are fantastic. They are cute, round and fuzzy. I have to rub them when I walk by! Kind of like a baby's belly!!

Question: above it is stated "The leaves are fuzzy, similar to the plant Lamb's Ears just not as thick" but I don't see that feature on the above posted pictures. Which is it....

1) I need to get my glasses changed
or
2) The ones in the pix don't have fuzzy leaves

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

yes,that was a peacock attack
thank you for rubbing that in Kell

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Judy: You really don't see the fuzz, more like soft dull green velvet. Karyn had very good pic, don't think I could do better.
