The Epis Are Here, The Epis Are Here!! 2005 PART THREE

Modi'in, Israel

Nah, I'm not sad. It's been 13 years since I'd seen an Epi bloom in real life. I was and am very happy to have finally seen one again :-). And I'm so glad that I have all of you to share my excitement with. :-)

Julie - Nut cases feel right at home in my garden.....something about kindred spirits. :-)

Bye , bye Padré see you next year!

Back on April 19th a couple of threads ago......I posted an image of two buds on one of the odd-ball triangular pieces in among the bright pinks. Never bloomed that I remember.....looks like it also might be pink, but time will tell. The buds and the leaves are much more prickly than most of the others.

Here's the original image of these two buds http://davesgarden.com/forums/fp.php?pid=1413938 and then the buds today.

I've started PART FOUR !

Mesilla Park, NM

Not much to report here, had two white ones bloom and another two of the red ones.. a few more bud to go too. Couldn't take photos, getting the house ready for company.

Great looking flowers you all have posted. I can hardly wait to see Clares and Darius, mine were almost eaten to the stub by roofrats last year, so I won't be able to ID anything..lol. but hopefully get to see all of yours bloom. Maybe mine will come back and I can ID them off of your pictures.

Candy that one is so interesting. I received a cutting that is just like it: three-sided and spiny! I have no idea what color it will be. I think it came from my neighbor. Ursula had some great insight about what it could be on another thread here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/511085/ and George has one just like it.

Antoinette, I think I got the Padre from you. It is the pink one that I posted above. Here's another picture of it. Let me know if you need some cuttings back! I will be happy to send you some as soon as they grow out a bit more.

I'm headed for the new thread!

Clare I went back and reread the thoughts from Ursula....sounds probable to me too and it will be interesting to see what the flower looks like. These odd-ball pieces (perhaps 8 or so) have always been in the pots, but this year they have really taken off and a couple are getting ready to bloom. I don't remember them ever growing much or blooming before.

I'm excited to see what they look like too. For starters, they look like they will be much smaller than the others and held more closely next to the stem.

Candy, here is a picture of my unusual one too. I think this one came from my neighbor. It is very small and four-sided, but the cutting she gave me was flat, and you can see that there is a flat stem growing out of it.

Clare, doncha just love those pots full of funny little nubs :-)

Ventura, United States(Zone 10b)

I love it; I love it; I love it! LOL!

Oh this could be a way to continue with Epis year round. Show us your "funny" leaves!

Here's my odd-ball for today......flat fairly thin leaves, think it's one of the white ones, with a new leaf (someday I should figure out what to call the green parts....I think they are actually "stems" that adapt as leaves.) Anyway the new growth is thin, but three sided.

Hi Happenstance! Neat thread!

Northern California, CA

Hey you!! Welcome, glad you could make it over for a visit to the Cactus & Succulent Forum!

Make sure you check all the prior threads in this Epi marathon we've been having since late January!! LOL

And there is a PART FOUR, so don't miss that either.

We're always hungry for more pictures and since you are new, show us ALL your pictures......who's to know if they are from last year???? They are still just as pretty and my short term memory isn't what it used to be..... :-)

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I only have this one, the one you've seen already, oh and the one that is in the mail to you. I sent you another kind of cactus orchid (i think it's cactus orchid) and will you let me know what it is? I think you'll recognize the one you wanted. The cuttings had little buds on them and I hope they open up for you!
That photo is blurry and no others have opened up. Sorry.

Well I do remember it....and it is still beautiful! It looks very large too, have you ever measured it?

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

No, should I? The flower or the whole plant? It is large. Good enough measurement??!?!?!?!?!?

Northern California, CA

LOL......I meant how large was the blossom. It looks pretty big, like over 8" or so?

Sometimes it is hard to tell with pictures how big the flowers are. I have some pink ones that are pretty small compared to what most people expect of an Epi........when I bought some cuttings from Epis by Pat last year she had them all graded according to size.

No big deal, I just thought it looked large and I can't wait to get one of your generous cuttings to bloom!! Yippee!

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

When the others bloom, I'll be sure and measure THE FLOWER...duhhhh...(hitting self in head thinking she should have had a V-8) I can't wait for your pink one either.

Weegy, that is very pretty! Is that E. strictum?

LOL, Candy. Very neat thin, three-sided leaf!

Bump:-)
