Please tell me it's a "Y"!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

gettin' you back for what you've done to me with the magnificent brug shots. ;p
with any luck, something will come your way eventually and you can play with them.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

So Blaine, got any pictures?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

((( blaine ))) TY TY TY

You just put a name on the old rose that came with this 1903 farm.

I just called her my double wild rose up until now.

How kewl is that ? !

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Linda, how long have you had your Eden climber? Yours looks a bit lighter in color than mine, though I have all shades. I fed mine alfalfa sludge and it took off. It truly loves it. And I got great repeat blooming also. Have you tried that yet?

It is terrible to have our personalities, isn't Blaine. I see. I want. I get.

My DH just left for work. I have been praying he would not look in the back of my car. LOL. I have a station wagon. I guess he didn't or he would be back in here. Saved again. Now I must go out and get my new roses out and hide them. LOL He never yells at me but he gives me such a bewildered look, like I have a disease. And for that moment, it occurs to me that I might. But then I happily think,,,,,,,,,,,,, nah.

Okay, Blaine, I must have an Autumn Damask, for my aunt, of course (ha!). Do any of the places take paypal??? That's the only place I like to order plant stuff because, if there are problems, paypal is really on top of it, they helped me outta a problem where I would have lotst fifty bucks if I had ordered any other way...

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Okay, Kell, is yours an Eden Climber?? I assume it blooms all summer, that's a question.

Blaine, are you sure the AD blooms all summer??

Kell, you will be 'safer' if you have dark windows on the back of your wagon, I do that to keep my dogs cooler and it works great to keep plants well hidden before the hubby goes to work...

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Scoot - if you've got the AD, don't you have a first flush then repeats through the season and isn't that fragrance amazing? Estee Lauder has a perfume thats been out for a lonnnnnng time and I swear it's puree'd and strained AD.

Kell - I thought I snuck home 3 more yards of this triple shredded, burnt mulch I like. It was in the truck with a tarp tied down. I'd started dumping it after dark and got busted so FINE, I'll get up and unload at daybreak. No more stealth mode. The only thing happening at daybreak was monster rain and thunderstorms and I've still got a couple yards of mulch in the truck.

Linda - I did start to look for pics this morning after posting but didn't find. I'll look again this evening. I'm almost afraid I don't have any with her in bloom. I get very distracted and sidetracked when I get a whiff.

Sherry - you'll have to google around a bit to find a source and I don't remember the name but DON"T order from a little place in Ohio. That's where I didn't get what I ordered. Lighter pink, whispier rangy canes and only blooms in the spring. Wants to run more as well. I've only had 3 suckers come up from the real AD and I was very happy with that. Chamblee's is already sold out. If I get a chance, I'll nose around and see if I can help.

Kell, yours is gorgeous. I've had mine about 3 years (I think) and it gets so little sun that I'm surprised that it bloomed at all. I've got AP, so I'll mix some up and give it a dose.

Blaine, I looked at the sites you posted, so I get the idea. That looks like a MUST have for rose growers. I've all but given up, just can't give them the sun they love.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Have you tried Zephirine Drouhin ? An old Bourbon gal who smells great, is thornless, tolerates poor soil, repeat blooms and is said to tolerate shade by most sources including http://www.jacksonandperkins.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/productlink.d2w/report?superitem=2345

I've had her in my possession the last 3 springs and ended up giving her away or swapping before planting.I have 2 new ones in the hoop house and am going to plant them this time!!! Little tykes both bloomed already .

Oh yeah, she's unlike AD in that she'll get black spot. But also unlike AD you can use chemical sprays on her such as fungicides or foliar feeding. Whooeee, AD will be a lush, green thriving thing and if she gets oversprayed from my ministrations to the hybrid teas and english roses, she starts yellowing and shedding those leaves Pronto!

ZD is on my wishlist already. i don't know why i didn't order her right away. J&P guy said i can order starting december 24!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Blaine is so bad ,Annapet. He will have your yard filled with roses in no time. LOL. But there are worse fates!!

I unloaded my car. Here is my hidden haul from last night....... the double headed ones are a mini, Alfie! My new love. I wonder if Tom will notice them. LOL

What's it all about, Alfie?
Is it just for the moment we live?
What's it all about when you sort it out, Alfie?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?
And if only fools are kind, Alfie,
Then I guess it's wise to be cruel.
And if life belongs only to the strong, Alfie,
What will you lend on an old golden rule?
As sure as I believe there's a heaven above, Alfie,
I know there's something much more,
Something even non-believers can believe in.
I believe in love, Alfie.
Without true love we just exist, Alfie.
Until you find the love you've missed you're nothing, Alfie.
When you walk let your heart lead the way
And you'll find love any day, Alfie, Alfie

wow, i don't know how i'd hide those! so far, i'm sticking to bareroot roses. ha-ha. i drive a ford explorer and the other night that baby was full of potting soil and bark.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

you really got something that will just 'blend' in with the scenery there Kell

initially, set them near some pink brugs in bloom and if he asks tell him they're mini-flowered sports of the big pink brug you're training as standards.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Just in case you haven't heard, Kell, the Stones are making yet another final, worldwide concert tour, beginning in the fall of this year...

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Kell, that Eden is gorgeous! ALL of your plants are always gorgeous! Was your favorite color "green" when you were a little girl? (mine was).

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Moonglow, that is a cute seedling. But I don't think that plant is tall enough to have a Y yet. My seedlings last year didn't "Y" till the summer was almost over, and they were all over 3 feet tall, some 5 ft.

Corte Madera, CA

karrie, thank goodness i have my roses blooming and my last bareroot roses arrived. what else am i going to do while waiting for my brugs to grow?

5 ft. oh, my. next year i guess.

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

No - you'll probably see it this year! And you have a longer season than I do. Believe me, I went out every single day and examined each and every one. When I finally did get my "Y" I about flipped. Talk about probably looking corny in front of the neighbors, lol!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Which Estee Blaine?
I was an 'Estee' girl for a long time then I switched to Aliage , the green fragrance , it was more my style.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Sherry. You think I am a Stone's groupie? I already got my satifaction! LOL

Blaine and Annapet, I just was on the rose forum and look what I found. LOL.http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/509146/.

Annapet, in your zone you will flowers immediately! LOL

Thanks Karrie, no, not green and not pink either! LOL. But I did do all the weeding for my Mom and from a little girl I used to steal all the flowers out of our neighbors gardens.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

as long as I was at it, just ran up for a quick sniff test - yep it's soooooo close to AD

"Pleasures"

I just watch the bottle and it conveniently gets low around the DW's birthday or Christmas and I can't go wrong. :)

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

I used to steal flowers from across the street when I was a little girl. A little old lady grew a field full of them, so why not?! She didn't seem to mind as long as I was careful when I was walking through.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I broke into our cleaning lady's GH. She grew carnations to sell. I didn't know that. I was about 6 or 7. She lived at the end of the block in an old carriage house. I used to go thru her compost pile picking out tulip bulbs for my Mom and any flowers she had tossed. Anyway, I went in and pick lots and lots of carnations. I can still remember my thrill when I was in there. I had never seen anything so beautiful. I brought my mother a huge bouquet of them. Well, not very bright. Though I do not think I thought it out and thought it was a bad thing to do or that it was stealing. When she came to clean, she saw them and she had a fit. My father was so mad. I think he had to pay her. I had to go down and apologize. I remember picking a big bouquet of flowering field flowers, mostly weeds, for her. I thought it was so beautiful.

Corte Madera, CA

oh, kell. i remember picking a big bouquet of GRASS (my friend and i thought they were beautiful) and got in trouble: NOT supposed to go there. snakes, etc....and will make you itch. my folks have always been avid gardeners, but i just got bit by the bug last year.

i have to find another place where i intended to plant my brugs. i think i have reached BEDROCK.

Corte Madera, CA

btw, kell, how big are those alfie pots? i'm going to HD to get some tonight. my roses may be better off potted up. a had a couple of lizard encounters today while working on the berm. i'm super scared of lizards! (i know i'm BIGGER, but still...)

got 4 patio tree disneyland roses from my sister. jackson & perkins bareroot. i can't complain.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh I really like the Disneyland ones. Just so pretty.

I think they are maybe 12 inches, very small for the size of the tree rose. I got them at Lowes. They just got them in. I have been looking at the ones at Lowes and HD that come in the big wooden pot for $59.00. The trouble with them is the pots are so big and heavy. I woud never get them in or out of my car on my own. I saw the exact same roses, the 2 tiers, at Tassajara Nursery in Danville for $199.99. I think the same grower and all. So when I saw these sl smaller ones in a much more manageable pot, I grabbed them. I have 2 heavey urns I am going to plant them in.

I sure wish I had lizards here.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

What's the matter, Kell. You scared to ask Tom to help you carry them? LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Ada. He always does come to my rescue though. I am just ridden with guilt. LOL

Corte Madera, CA

thanks, kell.

i don't know why i'm so scared of lizards...

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

Aren't we just full of the dickens when we're kids. :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I know I was Karrie, LOL!

Annapet, they do not bite do they?

Spokane, WA(Zone 5b)

born a tomboy, had fun as a tomboy, don't look like a tomboy, but still am a tomboy. I like outdoors - as long as there aren't lions, tigers and bears.

Corte Madera, CA

kell, i don't want to find out. my dad said, "they are the good guys...eating mosquitos and flies, etc."

karrie, as long as we're still having fun, right?

someone's going to dig those rose and brug holes for me this weekend. BUT NO MORE BUYING PLANTS. really.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

I got 10$ here in IL that says she will!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Wow, Kell. You had a carload.

Blaine, I agree, she'll buy more. LOL

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

I am so happy to learn that there are others as bad (or worse) as me. My new montra is 'you can't have them all, you can't have them all"

I have so many things sitting around in pots, I'm really trying not to get anything else until I find a place for what I already have. Last week end I managed to hold my purchases to cow manure and mulch.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Well there's your answer. Pot up new additions to the next bigger pot and add it to you "container" garden.

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Blaine, you are NO help.

(Zone 7a)

Y'all, I've been happily lurking on this thread, and want you to know I posted this thread's link over on the rose forum in a thread about roses in the shade: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/380211/

So glad to know I'm not alone in certain foibles and schemes of gardening.

My DH loves animals and thinks deer are the bees knees. I do too, just not in my flowers. Anyhoo, I plotted to lure him into the love of gardening by deliberately playing on his love of animals. But it happened in a totally unexpected way -

Before water and sewage came here and we were forced to fill in the well, I used to imagine waterlilies blooming at the top of the well, never planning to do anything about it - and one hot July vacation, DH just up and dug out the top 18", installed lining, dug one more pond a little higher up the slope, installed a waterfall, etc., and all the visitations of toads (19 one night years ago), dragonflies, waterstriders, peepers, etc. were all it took to spring the enchantment of gardening on him. (If you ever want to outbark your neighbors' dogs, 19 toads are the way to go! LOL)

Monday, we started all over again - a creeping juniper over the years had buried the whole business...we are not as fit as we once were...would never torture ourselves like this physically if not for the sway of gardening over what's left of our common sense...would anyone at any time during this summer like to swap brug cuttings for a waterlily division (Fabiola, double pink, hardy) and/or anything else in the area of a mixed hardy flower garden?

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

.... well there's my daily quota of keyboard-coffee-snorts! Glad you piped up Bluespiral and enjoyed the tales. A swap opp will probably be coming your way...

... outbark your neighbors' dogs... hahahaha
