"Search" on DG Address list?

Crossville, TN

Dave, since we have grown so much here on DG, and the list is getting quite long in the Address list...would it be possible to have a SEARCH box inorder to get to the name you are looking for faster? I just kept scrolling to get to the Y's...Thanks for your consideration. Jo

Psssst.....Jo.......press "Ctrl" and "F" at the same time and you get a Find box. Type in all or part of whatever text you want to find on any web page and this will prevent you from scrolling and eyestrain.

L-I-B!! Does it work for the address list? Hmmm Will have to go find out...You people should tell us OLD people...or this old people anyhow...how to do these things! Thanks! Jo

OK...I went to the DG Address list and tried it...it didn't work for me...don't know what I did wrong, but I'll just keep on keeping on! Thanks for the try. Jo

Jo, depending on the brower you use, it might open a text box in the middle of the screen, or move you to a browser window near the bottom (true of Firefox, anyway). Look down at the bottom of your screen to see if you have a search box with "find:" next to it.

Jo, if you're on a PC and in either Mozilla Firefox or Internet Explorer, you can go to the top bar and select "Edit" and then "Find in this Page" (or similar). Then simply enter your keyword for the search. This is equivalent to the Control-F key combination for folks with PCs; Macs could be different. :)

Edited to admit that Terry types faster than I do. ^5s, Terry! lol

If all else fails, try hitting "Ctrl" and "end" (over by the page up page down keys).....that will at least take you to the end of the page in one fell swoop and you'll be closer to the "Y's" :-)

Did you get it to work, Jo? If not, what browser are you using and I'll get you a screen shot to show you.

Browser? Hmmmmm. Would that be Internet Explore?

Now, say I want to find the address from the list for....langbr...with out scrolling down...what do I do. I have had the little box come up ..and I type in langbr...and VERY FAST it will say something like "all files have been searched" and no langbr. It will take me to Roadrunner....but I already know my address. LOL

So...for people like me that can't do puter stuff...why not a little search box on the address list?? Jo

Unless/until Dave adds a search box, here's how to make-do.

Make sure you're near the top of the page when you start your search - just cilck on your mouse once near the top of the text area. If you scroll down the page and you've accidentally passed over what you're searching for, the Ctrl+F function won't work unless you tell it to search "up" instead of "down."

Thanks, Terry....it worked. But how many of us will know to do that?.....we could use a Search Box I'm a thinking. Jo

Jo, adding a search box is strictly up to Dave. Sometimes we have to make do with what we have ;o)

I think many people are familar with the built-in "find" feature in their browsers - and discovering new shortcuts is half the fun!

Yeah...it is...my DD's bought me a new Kodak Easy Share digital camera for Mother's Day...I have learned a few of the "bells"...but there are so many "whistles" that it will be a while before I even attempt to master them!!

Thanks for your help...and you wouldn't belive how much I have learned since being on DG! I hope I have been able to impart a wee bit of my own "wisdom" too. Jo

Hey Terry! Guess what? That CTRL F works when I type in Ornamental Gourds on the home page...takes me way down to them!! WOW! no more scrolling down to find seldom used forums!! Jo
