Does anyone know about it? My niece just had her first birthday. She is at home with her mom, always. My brother and his wife took her for a wellness visit last week. Yesterday they noticed she was not well. Today they took her to the Doctor. The Doc said take her to the hospital immedately. While in the hospital, she seized They did CPR on her, but have yet to find a vein-they keep collasping.
I cannot remember when my daughter was immunized for the Roto-Virus, but I remember being told that if I wanted it, I had to pay for it. It was not considered necessary. Lannah has never been around another child except in the Doctor's office.
Let anyone know who needs to know. It's not mandatory, but......if my brother had even known of it, he'd have had her immunized if she wasn't too young. He'd never heard of it.
My neice has the Roto Virus
Here's a good link.
http://babyparenting.about.com/cs/healthissues/f/rotovirus.htm it says"
"While some medications may be prescribed to help treat symptoms such as nausea, there is currently no drug that is prescribed to treat the virus itself. Antibiotics are not effective since it is a viral infection as opposed to a bacterial infection. There was some success with a vaccine, but many children suffered ill effects from the vaccine and it has been subsequently pulled from the market."
Jenks, I hope she is doing better now. I had never heard of this virus before your posting about your neice.
Mobi, thanks for the link.
She is doing better. They finally got an IV in her. I asked if they were going to switch Pediatricians, and apparently, they don't have another option. They can't find any reason for the seizure, they will do an MRI once she's better just to make sure there are no other causes.
Thanks for the link, I can't believe my daughter was immunized for it. But she was in Daycare and I thought it was better to be safe than sorry. I am so glad she wasn't one of the ones affected badly by the immunization.
Here she is with her dad at her first birthday just a few weeks ago.
What a beautiful litle girl and Daddy looks so caring. Thanks for sharing the photo. It makes me smile.
Aw! Bless her heart! What a cutie, hope she does better.
I am so glad she is okay.
Rotovirus is very common, moreso with day care kids. It is commonly called hand-foot-mouth disease. Sometimes it is easy to miss because loose stools are common with little ones that drink more than they eat and also with teething. I'm sorry your little neice got it. She will be good as new once her fluids level out.
