I know what you mean about photos -- sometimes I retake the picture several times, and I still can't get the bloom color to look right, so I have to try to explain what it "really" looks like! Those are very pretty minis.... I'm trying to fool myself into believing that I'll have room for *lots* more violets if I try to concentrate on miniatures!
Sorry I don't have 'Lamb Ear'. Also sorry to report that my 3 'Marion's Enchanted Trail' that were potted up together (in a wide, shallow bonsai pot) have recently suffered and are now down to 1/2 plant.... I'm hoping that one recovers enough so I can at least propagate a couple of leaves, but I'm just not having good luck with it lately. So I'm afraid it's off my trade list until further notice, but if/when I get plantlets of it, Dana will get the second one (the first stays with me). I'll do my best, Dana!
Time to start a leaf trading thread!!
Oh, that's too bad about your plant! I hope you can get it revived. No problem if you can't get the plantlets started. :)
If anyone has Smitten Kitten, I'd still really love that one! If not, maybe I'll have to place a Rob's order, too. I'm sure I'll go overboard, and then I'll have a lot more leaves to trade!
Thanks for being understanding, Dana. I'm sure there will be something else I can send you if that one doesn't pull through, although I'm hoping hard for it since it's a "pet." I'm sorry I didn't get 'Smitten Kitten' when I ordered from Rob's -- it was so hard to choose, but I'm not sure how I passed this one up! I did get a couple other minis with "girl" foliage ('Silly Girl', 'Peppermint Girl', and 'Cloud Puff), so if they do well I should be able to offer them down the road.
Don't be sorry you didn't get Smitten Kitten. It may be my excuse for a Rob's order! :) My husband and I are house shopping, though, so I won't be ordering anything until we've moved.
I also have some others that are plantlets that I couldn't offer now. And some leaves that are going crazy with plantlets. We'll certainly have to do another trade later!
Anna---
I would love one of your GCR Lavender Mayhem -- but all I have for trade right now that is named is Maine (see my baby girl hoding it possesively??) Wouldd you be interested at all??
Heather
Dana, good luck with the house shopping! I'll hope for a leaf or plantlet of 'Smitten Kitten' from you at some point, and that will keep me from placing another order with Rob's right away! LOL!
Anna, LMK if you're interested in any of my violets.... I'd love to trade with you too! Heather & I will be hooking up at the RU next month, so it may be possible to do a combo trade. (If something prevented me from going, Heather, I'd send your stuff up with BlueKat76.)
Hope it is o.k. to jump in on this thread. I have some rooted African violet leaves I'd love to trade for some hoyas. I use to grow several violets, but my interests have recently changed.
Here is what I have:
4 rooted leaves of Beca's Botswana
3 small rooted leaves of Trail Along
2 small rooted leaves of R's BoolaRoo
4 small rooted leaves of Cirelda
4 small rooted leaves of Pixie Blue
1 small unknown variegated violet rooted in 2" pot
I'd love to send all of these in one trade for some hoya cuttings.
Shirley
Well, shoot, I wish I did have some hoyas to send you! I'm sure someone will step forward.
Hey, I'm heading to Rockville on Tuesday, dropping a few trades off at the USPS substation (cuts a day or two off transit time, which I figure is a good thing for sending plants). If anybody's thinking about arranging a trade for some of my AV's, now would be a good time to LMK, although DH would probably drop a box off for me next week too.
Dimmer that 's a beautiful episcia.
MsC
HEY KEYRING - if you still have that sad Neptunes Jewels to trade, let me know what you want...it IS on my wish list!!!!
Hi all,
Just in case anyone is wondering...I dont use these forums much, and get confused reading through them! So if I havent answered you....it isnt that I am ignoring anyone, just am so used to email that I get lost here sometimes! So go ahead and bombard me with email if you want to (related to this topic of course!), or post again and I will try to get myself into reading/answering gear!
Anna
off to make more coffee.......
Hi everyone,
I have an AV called "Monet", and the plants may get to the point soon where I will have to trim leaves.
Here's a link:

Also, I have one I got from Rob's Mini-o-lets as an extra, called "Satin Wine", and it lives up to its name:

That's a pretty pink one!
I'd love to put my out but i don't think they would like the hot weather we are having right now. It was 100' on the patio at 1:00pm today!!! Bummer !

Since they originated in East Africa, I doubt that the heat would bother them. They would probably love it.
Joan
I think they're originally from the mountains and near water, so it might not be so hot. I've looked it up a bit online and have found that the wild populations are endangered due to human activities, such as logging, which ruins the necessary shade. Our cultivated varieties are derived from hybridizing just 2 of the 20 known species, according to this website: http://www.africarainforest.org/article_violet.html. It's pretty interesting to learn about the natural habitat of our little friends. :)
Dana, I just got 'Smitten Kitten'! It's just ADORABLE!!!
Kim (BlueKat76) went to the Violet Gallery yesterday and picked up a couple of plants for me. They only had the tiniest plantlet of 'Marion's Enchanted Trail', so it'll be a while before I can try to propagate that one for you.... but at least I have a replacement. If/when I get up there, I'll try to find another plantlet for you -- I know I owe you one!
Here's 'Smitten Kitten'
I also got 'Grape Slush' and 'Buckeye Boysenberry', both of which have wonderful pink & white variagated foliage!
'Buckeye Boysenberry' had a flower, so I took its picture. My camera just does not do well with purple, even after I massage the color balance.... the flower color is a deep, velvety purple that reminds me of a woodland violet.
CritterO those are beauties! Good for you!
The site had lots of AV's I'd like to have, too.
Just bought a few more at Home Dept and a big beautiful gloxinia...pics later.

Ears!! I'm so excited!
There were a couple of leaves broken off my Rob's violets when they arrived. Naturally, I potted them up. I'm excited to report I've seen "ears" poking up for several plantlets of 'Rob's Cherry Soda' and at least one plantlet of 'Cloud Puff' (which has girl foliage!).
I also have "ears" for the ones I've dubbed "Violet Bouquet" and "Magenta Star." Plus, there are a couple of "Rosie Girl" (formerly called "Pink Girl" but I thought she needed a better "name") plantlets that look about ready to go. I also have two sucker plantlets of the "Blue TLV" one that look ready, and I have a couple more 'Ruffled Sheer Romance' plantlets.
Heather, your name is on one of the "Violet Bouquet" babies, and I think you were interested in a "Blue TLV" one too? SarahJo, I'll send you a "Rosie Girl" with your coleus this week!
Anyone else want to "reserve" one? :-)
By the time the Rob's plantlets are ready to go, my other violets from that order should be ready to donate leaves...
Ooh, what gorgeous plants! You know I'll be interested in Smitten Kitten... :) I just started another round of leaves, so I'll let you know when I'm ready for a trade??
CritterO,
Please save me 1 of the 'Ruffled Sheer Romance' .
I'm sure I have something to trade for it.
Thanks MsC
Anyone have any of the following they want to trade leaves with me for?
