Placing that order at Rob's has got my juices going! I figure it's time to post a bunch of pictures of violets I have (mostly not named) and see if others will do the same so we can set up some leaf trades! I figure this should be a good time to ship, weather-wise.
'Ruffled Sheer Romance'
Named standard violet with ruffled, deep magenta blooms. Blurry photo doesn't do it justice! I have newly rooted suckers of this one, too, but the leaves are probably easier to ship.
Time to start a leaf trading thread!!
"purple star" violet
This one came from a local garden center. It's another large standard that seems to be as tough and profuse a bloomer as "big blue." The white blooms have a purple star like marking that is quite striking. I suppose you could also describe it as a blue-violet bloom with a wide white margin, but I like "purple star!"
"magenta star" miniature violet
Another one from my favorite local garden center. I haven't grown this one long enough to say whether it's a miniature or a semi-miniature variety, but I love it. Leaves are very dark & pointed, with wavy margins. Blooms are white, with red-purple central markings and some speckling (colors are more intense than the picture shows).
"blue fantasy" miniature trailer
Like the 2 named varieties at the top of this thread, this one came from Carousel of Violets in Winston-Salem, NC. I'm not sure whether to classify it as a semi-miniature or a miniature, but the leaves are twice as big as those on my 'Marion's Enchanted Trail'.
Flowers have blue fantasy markings on a pink background. FYI, one offspring propagated by leaf reverted back to a solid color (a pretty purple), so I'm not sure if this one needs to be propagated from suckers to come true.
'Ness's Pink Patches' semi-miniature
No photo, as mine isn't blooming now and is looking sufficiently beat up (got water spilled on it) that I think it's time to propagate a new one for myself too. But it's a pretty violet when in better shape! This is the one that I don't think is a true trailer, but it seems very prone to suckering and thus tends to assume a "trailing" appearance that's fairly attractive.
Jill~~
I have this one-- we think we came up with the name Maine -- the only pic I have is with my glamorus model...
I also have a smaller pink one that I can't get a decent picture of -- I am still serching for a name on. I have some leaves rooting from otherss but won't be able to share for quite a while.
Heather (you're still planning the on round up right?)
I do have other plants but they haven't flowered for me yet so I am on pins and needles.
Edited because I can't sspeel.... LOL!

Heather, LMK which ones you're particularly interested in, and I'll try to get some leaves started for you.... we can swap at the RU. I'll bring whatever extra plantlets I have then too. The leaves probably won't have plantlets by then, but they'll be underway, and we won't have to trust them to the USPS! BTW, I do like the one your daughter is modeling, although it's less adorable than she by far! :-)
Oh, I'm interested in this! I have some plants on the verge of blooming, a couple of whose pictures I can post in a few days. I also have some plantlets I could trade: Rob's Snake Charmer, Rob's Bed Bug, Rob's Smarty Pants, and Rob's Squeeze Toy (I think). I also have a plantlet of an unnamed standard with deep marroon flowers, a plantlet of a typical standard AV with purple flowers, and two plantlets of an unnamed mini (the one that has the extra leaves coming out of it-- I'm not sure what that will end up looking like...). I don't have the parent plants of any of these for pictures, but you can look up the Rob's pictures online. I received these all as leaves, and had a lot of success propagating them! If anyone's interested, I could send pictures of the plantlets.
If anyone has Smitten Kitten, I would really be interested in a trade for that one, but I'm open to pretty much anything! I like the minis especially. (Critterologist-- so far I really like Marion's Enchanted Trail and the purple thumbprint). I'll post pics of my other ones soon: Rob's Humpty Doo and an unnamed, ruffled-leaved, girl foliage with purple flowers. The foliage on this one is very unique!
I've been having mixed luck rooting the leaves from 'Marion's Enchanted Trail' lately, so I'm thinking I should wait and send plantlets when I get them rather than trying to ship the leaves (which are fairly small & delicate). I stuck some leaves this afternoon, so it'll be a while before plantlets. I stuck some leaves from the "purple thumbprint" one too, but I'm less concerned about shipping those leaves, so they could go right out. (I'm willing to ship the METrail leaves, just not optomistic about them.)
I'd love a plantlet or leaf of Rob's Smarty Pants and/or Rob's Humpty Doo (both were on my short list but didn't make the final cut, so I won't be getting them in the order I just placed unless they go to my substitution list). I'm also very taken with the one violet I have with "girl foliage," and I would love to swap for that purple flowered one! Can I interest you in the unnamed one from Home Depot (called "pink girl" above), or maybe I could send leaves after my plants arrvive from Rob's to even out the trade later? (My order from Rob's included 2 varieties with girl foliage, if they're available.)
Critterologist, you've got mail!
I'm planning to head down to Rockville tomorrow, so I'll pack up leaves & plantlets and send them on their way from the USPS substation!
So this would be a good time to let me know if anyone else is interested! :-)
I'm surprised there are only three of us posting on this thread. Weren't several people mentioning a leaf trade once spring came? My above "trade list" is still valid whenever anyone else becomes interested (minus the Smarty Pants, until my plantlet gets big enough for leaves). :) The one I was waiting for is just beginning to bloom, so I still plan on posting pics. Let me know if you want to trade.
--Dana
I'd love to do some trading, but the timing is just a bit off for me,so I will have to wait until after my son's wedding and things calm down a bit.:) I can't seem to catch up...lol
I love the red one in the pic above so save me a leaf or add me to a waiting list please.

I'll be happy to put your name on a plantlet of 'Ruffled Sheer Romance,' MsC! I have several of them from a plant that suckered (this one doesn't generally seem prone to suckering, but the mother plant suffered crown damage, which will do it), and actually they'll have better roots after a while, so waiting is fine!
After a bit, I should also have leaves (and eventually plantlets) from the Rob's violets I just ordered (see other thread).
Oh thank you Critter, that's so nice of you! I hope I'll have something you are interested in, too! I'll let ya know when I'm ready.

I think this is a pretty busy month for a lot of people. Graduation, Memorial Day, weddings etc.
I won't be trading AV leaves, but I will have a couple of plants to trade. It'll probably be a couple of Bumble Magnets and a badly grown Neptune's Jewel (or I could rip this one into leaves). I'll probably have the usual episcia stolons too, and possibly a few other gesneriads. I think, though, to make things "interesting," I might be looking to trade for deep shade perennials. (If you've got excess trilliums... lol.) Anyway, more on that later.
I know it's busy, but it's also a good time of the year for shipping plants.... I was waiting until Rob's started their spring shipping schedule before starting a trading thread, so as to be sure shipping conditions would be favorable since I'm new at this. I have a number of plant trades packed up that will be dropped off at the USPS substation tomorrow, and my fingers are crossed that all will arrive safely!
I'm still working my way through trades arranged during the winter as well. It's also good to get shipping to hot areas done before the real summer hits, especially with leaf cuttings.
LOL, you asked for it! You should know that if the word..."trading" floweth from your keyboard, I shall respond :)...
I would LOVE a leaf from your Pink Girl Violet...how do you feel about a postage, baby?!?! lol :)
Sarah
oooh, Dana, those are lovely! I couldn't believe just how ruffled the leaves were that you sent me.... that's a very special violet! You'll have to show your 'RHD' that photo on the Violet Barn site where Rob is holding it's multi-show-winning counterpart. Tell it that is what it wants to be when it grows up! Although, it's very lovely at its current size, too.
This is my first trailing violet (well, biggest at least). I can't wait to see how it will look when it's bigger! It's quite interesting to see how they grow compared to the normal, single-crowned kind. :)
OK so here goes! Have been reading all the above thread...time for me to expand my AV collection too! The pictured AV is a large plant, with a heavy head of flowers when dead on (of course, I waited until almost too late to take pics...duh!) Anyway, it had no name, and for my record keeping I have named it (until such a time as I locate its true name) GCR Spring Joy...it just made me so happy when I saw this one that I had to have it! ruffled edge looks white but actually is an offwhite. I just love this, would like to trade leaves for something exciting as well....
Anna
more to come
Last one for now, have to take more pics but my batteries are dead in the digital...so....anyway, this one is different again, yet similar to the other fantasy types but more the pinwheel pattern with fantasy on the pink...a small plant. Limited leaves available....I have already started some *leaflings* so not many left that can be traded!
Anna
done for the minute
Anna ,
Those are all beautiful and I will be happy to trade with you if I have something you like. I love all the fantasy and especially the ruffled edges of the leaves.
Please save me a leaf or two of the last 3!
MsC
Here's a few of my newest AV's.
All are beautiful NOIDS...lol
I was so lucky to find so many in such great shape. These were fresh off the growers truck and had not been abused yet.
Some of the flowers are a little past their prime but still a great find at about $2.00 each. :-D.
I have a few more mini-trailers that are not in the pics here.
Hope you see something you might want to trade for.
Thanks
MsC
Oh, wow, Anna -- I love them all! -- especially Spring Joy, Pink Mayhem, and the pinwheel one. I wonder if that pinwheel pattern will propagate from a leaf or if it'll revert to a different bloom? Either way, it's bound to be pretty.
BTW, your Spring Joy & my Purple Star seem quite similar... the margin on the blooms in my picture is much more white/cream than the photo shows, and it's also a large, vigorous plant. I'll bet they had their origins with the same grower/hybridizer.
MsC, those are beautiful violets!! Isn't it amazing when we can find something that special at such a bargain price? Some of my favorietes are no-names, too! I especially love the two blue minis. That pale blue is lovely, and the white splashes on the other one remind me of the blooms on the 'Funambule' I just got. I wish I could zoom in a little more on those pics.... Does the white mini have "girl" foliage?
I hope both of you see something you'd like to trade for in my pics (or on my list of recent arrivals from Rob's, if you're willing to wait a bit for them to grow bigger)! I have several suckers potted up now from that blue TLV one, but it may be a bit yet before they get good roots. PLMK!
Critter,
So sorry, the Mini white doesn't have girl foliage . It is a double and is so cute.It looks like lil white roses.
The paler purple or lavendar has a light white/silver edge to it.
Unfortunately my camera flash washed it out pretty bad.
The darker purple double with the white splashes is very pretty. My photos are so bad and just don't do any of them any justice at all I'm afraid.:(
The dark pink has the cutest purple spots...definitely a fantasy bloom.
I'll try to get some better pics of each bloom and post them so you can see.
Does anybody have a leaf or plantlet of 'Lamb Ear'? It's an old standard trailer.
MsC
