So my DH and I are considering adopting a baby girl from China. Has anyone done this out there in DG world and if so, what agency did you use and how was the experience? We are considering the Great Wall China Adoption Agency. Any feedback is welcome.
Thanks, Michelle
Adopting from China?
We had a family at church just complete this process and they have a precious little girl. We tried to get them to bring back two children and give one to us, but that didn't happen. :) It's too expensive for us to do, or I'd love to have another child in our family. We're going through the foster care process right now to try to help some children that way. I'm not sure who they used, but I can ask if you'd like for me to.

Hi Carla, if you don't mind asking them which agency they went with...I'd appreciate it. It is VERY expensive. I will need to get a job in order for DH and I to do this. I quit my career last August so that maybe less stress that I could conceive. But no. So after going to a fertility specialist and getting a second opinion, we will have to adopt. Of course, eventhough the doctor says I have less than 1% chance to get pregnant, with God all things are possible and if it is His will, then it is 100%. My DH and I love the Lord with all our hearts and only want to do what is within His will. So the options were to adopt or to do invetro w/an egg donor. After praying thru the egg donor thing...we felt ikky about it and so we have decided on adoption. I would be thrilled if the Lord knitted a baby in my womb still. We have such a heart for the Chinese people. And after researching and whatnot, I think the babies are precious and we would be honored to adopt. Thanks Carla! Michelle
My barber who is from Hong Kong originally went to Shanghai a coupoe of years ago and adopted a boy who was about 19. He is very bright and happy when I see him at her barber shop.
Here are a few links that may help....SCC is a big influence in the adoption world at the moment and Shaoey's organization is a wonderful start.

Thanks Melody! I know all about Steven Curtis Chapman's 2 Chinese kiddos. Their story is so cool. We are looking at his adoption ministry as well as the Great Wall China Adoption AGency. Oh and Living Hope Adoption too. We really want to do this but want to research and figure out all that we can. I know a couple at church that just adopted from China and I'm plan on contacting them as well.
Steven and Marybeth have 3 Chinese daughters...they got Maria last summer. At the same time, his brother, Herb Jr. went with them and adopted a daughter for his family also.
Our dear friend, Herb Sr....Steven and Herbie's dad, has 4 Chinese grandaughters!
Elena here at DG has 2 Chinese grandaughters,1 grandaughter from Guatamala, a Romanian grandson and a Romanian grandaughter.
You might contact Elena and see what agencies her son and daughter used.
Hi Melody, yes, I've been emailing back and forth with Elena. She sent me a picture of her grandkids...the two that are Chinese and the Guatamala child. They are adorable. So you know the Chapman's personally? I have to say, that I saw SCC and Geoff Moore a few years ago up in Dallas perform and it was the very best concert I'd ever been to. My dad went with me and he even enjoyed it (he doesn't like loud music...haha).
I spoke to one of my pastors at church yesterday about this and he encouraged my DH and me to chat with the couple from church that just adopted. He said the baby is so adorable and they all love her so very much and couldn't love her more than if she was their own flesh and blood. So this is encouraging.
Glad you've hooked up with Elena....I probably took that picture....We went to Nashville around Christmas and I was 'official photographer' for the day. Elena is a dear, dear friend and it's wonderful that we only live a couple of hours apart!
SCC's dad is a dear friend of ours also...we live about 40 minutes from Paducah.
We know Steven and Herbie to speak to them, but since they don't live here anymore, I can't say that we are actually personal friends.
It was really funny one time several years ago...we were at our local Wal-mart and noticed a guy looking at the bicycles out front...had two blond boys and a little Chinese baby ....the man had a baseball cap pulled down on his forhead, but my hubbby hollers...hey Steven! He looks up and we go over and chat for a minute. He had Shaohannah, and she was still tiny. He was shopping for a bicycle for his daughter Emily for the house up here on KY Lake.
He asked us how we recognized him so quickly...thought he'd had a pretty good disguise....well, the boys and Shaoey gave it away at 100 feet. He had come to our little town 40 minutes away from Paducah to avoid the crowds....we visited for a minute and let them continue shopping. Great family.
So you know Elena..cool. She seems very nice.
I've been to Paducah...there is a paper plant there. I was in the advertising print production career for years and a paper rep wanted us to tour the plant there. It was very interesting. I didn't know anything about Paducah at the time except the school shooting. very sad. satan at work. i was not a Christian then so I didn't know it was where one of my favorite Christian sings lived. When I put my faith in Christ, the first CD I bought was SCC's Speechless. It really got me thru a lot of rough times growing as a baby Christian in an evil environment like advertising agency.
That is neat that you know them.
