What are your special plans for Mother's Day?

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

We're having an intimate little brunch for SO1's mother on Sunday, May 8, the invitation to which she accepted even before SO1 tempted her with the Crab Louis (got a smokin' deal on crab early this season and saved it specifically for this day!). I think she likes my cooking. :)

I love variety in addition to having enough of everything prepared so SO1's mother feels comfortable toting home leftovers for freezing and/or enjoying later in the week. This year, I'm thinking about a buffet-type fare where everyone can select as much (or as little) of everything as they wish, and is also something easy for me to mostly prepare in advance. Here's the main fare so far:

Crab Louis Salad ~ Spinach Quiche ~ French Onion Soup ~ Fresh Fruit Cocktail

Extras (which could expand further):
. Appetizer Sandwich Bits (you know, that decadent old standby with three slices of skinny pumpernickel bread with cream cheese and ham in between that you cut into tiny squares and put toothpicks in... lol)
. Assorted olives and pickles
. Deviled Eggs (mostly 'cause SO1's son loves to both make and eat them)
. Brownies

I think that the meal plan approaches one that is very balanced and healthy, but I cannot control how much of anything that a person consumes. ;)

So what special things do you have planned for your favorite 'Mom'?

I am having all of my family, brother, sisters, their spouses, my son and his significant other, and my mom. Since we are in the south, it's southern cookin, ours is always pot luck, with me fixing the main course, drink and bread. We always have a good variety of food, and beside food is not the focus, family is. Since everybody is so busy, we only have these special events about 3 or 4 times a year. Looking forward to it. I will have about 15 guests.

TuttiFrutti, your menu sounds wonderful. Wish I was in your family. I HATE cooking! But I love to eat. (Unfortunately, my shape shows it!) HeeHee. I hope you have a wonderful meal and a wonderful day.

Defoecat, I don't envy your crowd. However, I hope you, also, will have a wonderful day.

This original Missourian loves good southern cooking like anyone, and believe me, we do that here, too! Just wanted to try a little something different since there will only be the four of us. I sure couldn't afford to serve that menu to the entire clan. LOL

Wishing you both a fun and glorious day!

We will be returning home from Iowa Round-up! I think we can find someplace along the way to add to the great food that we will have consumed on Sat.
Congradulations to all Mothers!

Well the weather man says it is going to be good weather in the 70s so my son will cook my favorite, Barbecue Ribs, on the grill with everyone else bringing a covered dish, then one of my favorite things to do Fishing in his lake. and if we are lucky cook them on the grill in the evening.

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Since my Mom lives in another Province, we are sending flowers. I am spending the weekend camping at Christina Lake which is about 3/4 of an hour from here. The weather is supposed to continue to be nice, so I am looking forward to it. She and her DH live about 31/2 hours from us in Summerland, so I am looking forward to seeing them. :D

My daughter will turn ten on Sunday. Told her she is the best Mother's day gift I could ask for.
My parents are driving up to go to church with us and then we are going out for brunch.
