Know This Song???

L.A. (Canoga Park), CA(Zone 10a)

This is a bluegrass song that I taped off of the radio about 20 years ago. I would like to find a better recording of it, but don't know the name of it or who sung it, except that it wasn't one of the big-time stars. The music is happy. The words go like this.

Sweet Virginia, do you know what you mean to me?
A blue eyed girl and a house in the high country,
And ev'ry time I'm gone
I only wish
That I could call you (home?).

Black top highway,
Blue Ridge skyway
Sun has turned to gold.
Take me dow-ow-ow-ow-own the road.

Nighthawk in the Blue Ridge Mountain sky,
I know your secret.
I can see you fly.
A star will be the light
In your lonesome pine tree night

Black top highway
Blue Ridge skyway
Sun has turned to gold.
Take me dow-ow-ow-ow-own the road.

Fields turn blue.
Foothills rise with the moon.
She'll be standing in the window.
She knows I'll be there soon.
Sweet Virginia, I'm not with you all the time,
Still, I'd like to call you mine

Black top highway
Blue Ridge skyway
Sun has turned to gol-ol-old.
Take me dow-ow-ow-ow-own
Take me dow-ow-ow-ow-own
Take me dow-ow-ow-ow-own the road.

A mystery. No luck even with google.

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

I've forwarded the lyrics to Sandy Sheehan of WUMB radio in Boston. He'll know if anyone does. He does a Traditional Folk Music show. We'll see if he answers me.

Cambria, CA(Zone 10a)

Here is his email to me:

I don't know the song. The only person I can think of who
might know is Sinc at Hilbilly At Harvard on WHRB. He is on
from 9AM-1PM Sat so you could try calling him at
617-495-WHRB. If you can't get the radio signal they stream
at WHRB.org.

Good luck

Sandy
