Bad news here.....

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Well other then the weather giving me fits,I think Jessy Noel has SB.

I am putting this up,so all the new folks can know what to look for.

This really hurts, because I got this one from Glory, and it is my favorite.

I am not sure if it is SB,I will have it tested, lucky I have not sent out any cuttings,so I do not have to put everyone on watch.

Shame it is one of my few blooming now also, guess that just adds insult to injury.

OH My!!!! I am so sorry. Please keep us updated in regard to the test and the results. I'm surely wishing that it turns out to be otherwise.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Oh man! Im sorry Root! Thanks for the pics.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks Gals,I can't remember this one getting blown off the deck,so I don't think it is a bruise,I hope I can get this one replaced some day,I only have one other of Glorys.

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Oh dear, that doesn't look good! Do keep us posted if you get any test results.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Gosh, I hope you are mistaken - if not, I am so sorry and wish there was something I could do to help. How long have you suspected a problem?? Did it just show up one day, or could you see it, or something coming??

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

I'm sorry Root! I hope the test is negative.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

can't u just cut off that part that is infected??? hopefully it did not spread into the entire plants. just a thought. don't forget to clean the tools used to prevent spreading to other plants too. a mere suggestion.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Root, how long have you had the brug?? My question really is, can a brug you have had for say a couple of years or so, develop SB??

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I don't think it is SB, Bob. SB is generally black around the outside. Check out the pictures on this thread. I don't know what your brug's problem is, but I've had it before and think it could be damage from something. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/419685/
FM has some places like that and they have been there for two years now. Didn't grow, just got lighter in color. They haven't affected her in any way. She still roots easily and grows and blooms well.

Bothell, WA(Zone 7a)

O K you guys, I am brand new and just got my first three Brugs. What the heck is
SG?!!! Obviously something BAD. What should I watch for? Thanks, Donna

Bothell, WA(Zone 7a)

Woops, I mean SB? :)D

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

follow the links posted to get better understanding of SB virus.

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I have had this Brug about 3 yrs,I know it is stressed from the weather,so I am not making a quick rush to the trash,I can not get it to the Co op office before Mon. so I can look it over good,I am just glad it is in a pot.
Sherry,I wish I could answer your question on how long they can have it,I lost Big Yella to it last year,so I have been pretty diligent with my sanitation.
Shirley says she does not think it is SB,and I trust her judgement,I am waiting for Monika to take a look,I hope it is some kind of frost burn, since it just came out after this last frost warning.
I can still get it tested and keep the main plant seperated,so I am not losing my cool. I sure hate to lose one of Glorys Brugs, she was so kind.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I've never seen SB, but what you have looks similar to my cuttings that were badly scraped and bruised in the wire I used in my bubbler last winter and were then frost bitten - I thought it looked like an abscess. I cut some of them off and treated the others with H2o2 and it worked well. H2o2 also works nicely for keeping tools, pots, etc, clean - it's my new fav brug product...

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

crossing my fingers Bob that it is o.k.

Hattiesburg, MS(Zone 8a)

Root-hope it works out positive for you. I had a yellow growing in the ground for 4 years and it showed signs of disease out of the blue. No other burgs were near it. I think the disease resides in the soil. Yellows just seem to be very susceptible to disease.

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Best of luck, Root. Hope it isn't SB.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Interesting Barb, what is the reason yellows are very susceptible to disease?? I'd think variegated and pinks would be more susceptible. Like everyone, I suppose, I've had other plants just up and die, for no apparent reason, not buggy or treated any differently than the others...down the line, sometimes I learn a reason, like dogwood, in my area, 'likes company', meaning that a single dogwood tends not to thrive, but a group of three most often do fine...

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Eeewwwyyyyy
I don't think its SB though but Monikas would know

I think SB would be brown with black outside of it ,not inside
but maybe its a USA version

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Bob, hope it's not SB. I know how you feel, I thought I'd lost a solandra maxima that Glory had given me, but it put out new growth!

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

I agree with Shirley, sure doesn't look like SB to me either.

Chin up rooty */;-)

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Bob, it doesnt look like SB to me either but more like scars from injuries.
SB has brown spots with a dark brown/black edge.
Have a look at Herzensbrücke in Brugies link. It shows SB spots in the beginning.
SB changes the look of the leaves also. I post a new picture tonight of a brug, which has SB in a very early stage.

Boy I bet Monikas observation along with Both of the Shirley's is a great relief for you Bob. It is a great post for all of us for learning purposes though. It got my concern up and went out looking over everything. If I had a pair of those (Judy)goggle magnifiers I probably would have worn those also. LOL

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Always good to have Monika and Shirley take a look, here are a couple more pics,we have better sun today.

Don't toss her. I'm sure it is just injury. I think you looked at FM and we decided that was the problem way back when. LOL!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Thanks,I will for sure give this one a benefit of doubt, one of the only ones I find that smells during the day.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

Weew! Great news!!!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Dont toss her Root but give her a chance.
This picture shows the very first signs of SB on a CG, before the black spots appear on the stems.
The first two leaf pairs from the top down look healthy, the leaves below begin to have or have a green/yellow mottling with a typical uneven surface. The leaf stalks have brown stripes.

Could I please have your opinion on this. It was a three year old yellow seedling, these photos are from spring of last year and I burned the plant in the fire pit.

I don't think you can put more then one in,no biggie,I hope Monika gets a look at yours, definitely different then mine.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

This branch was the size of my thumb and when I twisted it, it'popped' off like it was a pixie stick. Really easy to do, and was almost a spongy looking texture inside.

Thank you Rootdoctor, I am sorry to post on your thread, but I saw all the experts here and was hoping on their opinions. Thanks to all. Joelle

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

Be sure you are not working any of your other Brugs after handling this one,I don't see the dark inside, like in the link pictures.

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3a)

This was from last year- I burned it- because it looked so bad I thought even if it wasn't SB it probably would never recover. Thanks for your help. Joelle
