Wow, thanks Azalea for making us aware of this. I get these in my regular mail all the time and just block the sender's email. But I can't imagine how they got into DG. Kathy

yes, it is, but new to DG, as far as I know.

This person just signed up today, and isn't a paid member either. She most likely signed up just to send these emails. I haven't gotten one though. Maybe she's going through the memberlist alphabetically?

This type of scam in one form or another has been around for at least 20 yrs. In the beginning it would come by regular mail, then fax, now e-mail. At one time, I was getting about 5 to 10 of these a day, they were coming to my business e-mail.
I found it very interesting the order of countries involved. First it seams we were getting them from South Africa, then from Uganda, a lot of them came out during Idi amin's regime, then Nigeria, Ethiopia, Eritrea, cote d'azur, and I cant remember - but a few from other countries like that, but it seems they come in waves. and always it seemes on the heels of some revolutionary activity or something.....
where were the hutus and tsitsi's? remember that conflict about 5-6 yrs ago? big wave came on the heels of that.
I dont even think that the people involved are really in their own countries, they are probably in france, england, or maybe even the US and they are just sending e-mails all over the place. cause let me just ask you this: how many of you have seen evidence of electricity in those huts that they show when they are showing footage of those countries? )LOL sorry, just a bit of humor, i know the cities have electricity....

I get letters like that from time to time but the names are new. I definately have never received one through DG.

Lately I've been getting the Nigerian scam email in German. I still get the English variants as well.

I got one that claimed to be from South Africa but I didn't read it in detail. I don't recall if it went to the e-mail I use with my DG account or if it went to another.

That person must lead a pretty dull life, sending out spam to everyone in DG.

A few years ago, I had been getting many of them and I got sick of it. Decided to write back and really juiced it up good. Said I was a poor mother of 10 children whose father had up and left me for the guy next door. Said that I could really use their money and while I didn't have any of my own to help their cause, would they mind terribly if I added my name to their email. And could they please give me a number to get in touch with them to thank them and perhaps after we got our money from them, my children and I could come and visit. I sent it off and it was returned to me, undeliverable. Now, I just block the email addresses.

I am sure that there are a lot of greedy people out there that falls for this line and sends them money...hoping to reap some themselves. Jo

I was gone for the week end so didn't get back here-yes, this is an oldie, but new to me here on DG. Dave said only a few hours after I wrote to him that she was gone, but don't know how many members they could have downloaded. And I guess they could join again under another name. No real harm done I hope - unless all our addys have been copied to sell to others. It didn't really bother me since I have seen so many of these before through regular email, but I hope they don't get back in here.
