New Baby Granddaughter

Stockport, OH(Zone 6b)

FOR ALL MY FRIENDS IN CHAT THAT I'VE TOLD ABOUT THE 4 1/2 GRANDKIDS, NOW IT'S 5!

Well, baby Alexa Gwyn arrived last night at 5:45 PM (four weeks early)she weighs 5lb7oz and 18" long. Don't have any pictures to post as she is in neonatal intensive care, her lungs weren't fully developed so she is having a breathing problem. Have only seen her from a distance at the window so far, hoping to hold her tommorrow and praying she'll be screaming like a banshee!

This is son #1's first baby (he'll be 30 in June) and he is smiling like a possum!:)

Thanks for all the well wishes. Alexa is doing better, not on oxygen anymore and it being fed with a bottle (vs. intravenous), they took all the machines off except the heart monitor. Mom gets to come home tommorrow but not sure about baby yet, should find out tommorrow.

I still haven't been able to hold her, only Mom and Dad allowed in the icu so I guess I'll have to wait till she gets home:(

Oh, I am so sorry you cannot hold her yet. That has to be hard for a grandma. Soon enough, her little lungs will puff up and she will be better than new! The fact that she is eating from a bottle is REALLY good! Didn't they have time to give the mommy meds before she was born or did she come to quick? I am amazed at what they can do now! I only had one early and just two weeks. Four of them were two weeks late and one was right on time. I hope she gets to come home with mommy. It would be so hard to go home alone! Even if she does, little Alexa won't be far behind! Congrats again!!!

Well, it's Friday and my baby was supposed to get home today but didn't, so still haven't got to hold her, or even see her up close! :( Her temperature was too low today so they wouldn't release her, but she's doing good! They have pictures on the website: genesishcs.org (Genesis HCS) online nursery-DOB 4-26-05 -Alexa B. Course Grandma thinks she's beautiful! :)

Rita, are they still keeping her in one of those incubator looking things? Many hospitals believe in doing the 'kangaroo' thing now. If mommy is allowed to keep the baby up close to her bare skin, the cuddling and body heat often help keep the baby warmer. I had to do battle with a nurse once but I can be very insistent. LOL I put my daughter inside my shirt and covered us up and kept her nice and warm. It's worth a try. They often have a hard time regulating their body temps when they are so little. I prefer keeping them close rather than under that stupid fry warmer light. :)

You will get to her soon. I know you will.

She's not in an incubator but is still in icu (I suppose it's warmer there). Her mom was released yesterday but the hospital allows parents to stay at the hospital after released as long as the baby is there. She got to stay in the room with mom and dad last night because the nursery is so full. Hopefully they'll get to bring her home today! :)

What a little doll baby. When I was born on May 5th 1948 I weighed 3lbs. 6 oz. and now I weigh a whole lot more than that. They do so much more for preemies now then back in the dark ages. Thank goodness! Congratulations to all! And welcome Alexa! :) Buckimom
