I found a tree this weekend that took my breath away. It got my blood flowing again, it really did.
I cheated here putting it next to a brug so I could share it with you all. The ultimate tree for my pepto garden.....hey Susie girl. LOL
The most beautiful girl in the world
Picks my ties out
She eats my candy
She drinks my brandy
The most beautiful girl in the world
The most beautiful tree in the world
It sure is pink! What is it?
Very pretty, Kell. Is it some type of Maple?
Like a Japanese Maple .... have been looking at them for in my flowerbeds. That is really pretty.
It reminds me of a Japanese Maple too. They are such wonderful trees and add so much interest and color in a garden.
This one is just so amazing. I hear there are huge ones in the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens. Just by coincidence, my DH and I are going to go for a mini getaway there soon. We are going to sit by the ocean and sip good wine. http://www.gardenbythesea.org/
I walked into a nursery in Marin on Sunday and saw it across the entire width of the nursery. It had my name on it. My husband had sent me out to go nursery hopping, I was under orders not to come home for hours. I was a sad sack going thru the motions and then I saw this. My heart literally skipped a few beats.
I am very familiar and in love with all the pink variegated Japanese Maples, this is not a Japanese Maple, but it is far and away much more entertaining than any of them.
This is Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Eskimo Sunset’. You know, I am always going to be a gardener. Plants make me so happy.
The front is a muted pink and in the wind, the leaves flip up and a deep mauve flashes you.
Deb, I am not sure what zone it will tolerate, but it would sure be the focal point of your great backyard.
Wow, that's pretty, Kell.
It's gorgeous Kell. Is it a shrub or a tree?
The coloring is beautiful and I am glad that you found without even looking for it. Sometimes we need things like this to give us a boost. Your mini getaway sounds like lots of fun and the relaxation will be good for the both of you.
It is a tree, Liz. I understand it grows to 10 feet in about 10 years then slowly gets to 25 feet. Though it responds well to pruning. It supposedly holds its color all season. The top of the leaves are stunning also. It is especially nice with a dark red leaf JM in the background for contrast. Zones 4 to 8.
Why oh why are the most beautiful things sold only in California?
Are there no nurseries with a shred of imagination in the Midwest?..... :)~
Great find, Kell...
wow Kell that is really cool looking. Steel most of our nurserys stink to.
LOL, Donna, not only do they stink but to rub salt in the wound, I had some nursery owner the other day try to sell me a double purple brugmansia....
oh........ the humanity :)
SD, many of them want to sell you a double purple and you can't make them understand it's not a Brug. LOL
JUST knowing that a nurseryman/woman/child KNOWS what they are talking about and that they LOVE plants and working there makes me want to come back!!! Someone try to sell me a double purple Brug and I am out of there.... LOL
LOL Ada,
Funny tho, when I wanted to make a bet with his nursery at stake that there is no double purple brugmansia, he didn't want to take me up on it...... hehe
He left in a huff to the back room and what's double funny, before I left, he was chasing me around asking questions about brug care.....lol
At least you got his attention. LOL
Beautiful Kell. In my search it said zone 4 ... I am zone 5. There are some out there that are good for my zone just loaded with color. I have been looking at them for a couple months on line that is. I want to see some of them in person though.
Oh Kell, it won't grow here, we are too hot, so your plant is safe from this Texas rustler! It is beautiful!!!
Its not safe from me...lol
and there is no way to hide that sucker
add that one to my brug -napping list
it is a Sycamore Maple, and it would grow in our temp. if I could find it.
Forrest Farm (online) has it. You have to register before you can see the price. Price is good, shipping is horrible.
I couldn't find it at Forrest Farm, Shirley. But they had its offspring which I think is new this year and I hear it is a beauty too. Acer pseudoplatanus 'Prinz Handjery' VARIEG. SYCAMORE MAPLE Dec (z4)
Doris, I found several nurseries online have it. This one has it. http://www.bloomriver.com/reFrame.asp?page=/root/plantDetail.asp?ID=14&plantID=1663
I paid $119. for mine. If I kill it, I will then kill myself. LOL
CC, just try. LOL
ROTFLMAO!!!!

Acer pseudoplatanus ‘Eskimo Sunset’ at Forest Farm
LOL, that is exquisite Kell. good for you.
Isn't that funny Shirley that they do not have it listed alphabetically with the other Acer pseudoplatanus.
http://www.forestfarm.com/search/search.asp?aPage=9&index=genus&field-keywords=acer
See Doris, there are lots of places to find it if you can't get it in your county. I wonder if mine will make seeds..................................
thanks for all the info, I will have to check it out,
What a find, that should make anybody smile. Did they have more than 1? Check it for seeds (although it probably won't grow true).
they have eskimo sunset for 59 bucks but the shipping is 39.........
I think DH and I are going to have to fly out to LA to visit our son and rent a U-Haul to drive back to SA. If I could find all the beautiful plants and vines Kell finds in CA, it will take a U-Haul to get them home. LOL That tree is gorgeous, but guess it won't grow in South Texas. Bah Humbug!
Mine is very tall CC, but it is in a 2 gallon pot. About 5 ft. tall. It is grafted.
Sylvia, there are great places in LA area to go buy plants. I think Kartuz is there also. I bet a Southern Ca Daver will clue you in. Will your DH go nursery hopping with you?
Where do you stay Jeanne? We may stay at Heritage House again or last time we rented a house right on a cliff. It was heaven. I was meant to live on the sea like you do. Some how I got sidetracked. Yes, Fort Bragg, http://www.gardenbythesea.org/
So I haven't been to this beach. I can wear my orange bikini!! Is it great? Lots of sea glass???
Kell, your new tree is gorgeous. I bet it looks great with the wind fluttering through the leaves.
Thanks for the link to the Mendocino Botanical Gardens. I'll have to head that way next time we're up there for DH's salmon fishing. That's always the best time to indulge MY obsessions. After a weekend of fishing I'm less likely to hear, "What did you bring home now?" Have you seen the Rhody gardens up that way? I forget the correct name, but they are stunning if you have a chance to see them in bloom.
Last time we were there we camped north of Fort Bragg in a State campground that was on the water and absolutely beautiful. We had Oscar with us as usual. We asked at a gas station in Fort Bragg where the Glass Beach was, it was right down the road from the gas station. It used to be an old glass works factory. Millions and millions of small rounded pieces of glass. Very pretty. I didn't see anyone suntanning though. LOL
How neat, brugcrazy. I will look for Glass Beach, too. I love collecting it...so pretty and smooth. Any beach works for me though. The ocean is m favorite place to relax AFTER my garden!
Camping is out for me LOL!! I am not the camper type in any way. But I definitely will check out the beach. Sounds so pretty!
Me neither, Kell. I like the comforts of home when I go anywhere. LOL
