Several of us have been participating in a SFG thread on the Organic forum and wonder where the thread would fit better or if we should request some sort of forum for similar gardening methods? I understand the reasoning not to have a forum for everything, but where do we fit? The thread just happened to start where it did, but we'd like others to know about it and join in.
Not all SFGardeners do so organically; some are growing flowers, not vegetables, or a mix of both; there is at least one other named method of 'intensive' gardening; some of us use raised beds, some not. Have we missed a forum that is suitable?
Do we need a forum for alternative methods? Can SFG be added to another forum so folks can find each other? Anyone have any ideas? Terry? Dave?
Kathleen
Where to put Square Foot Gardening threads?
Since SFG is *mostly* vegetable gardening (yes, I know people use it for flowers and mixed beds - but the method and its intensive-bed precursors are mainly designed for vegetables) I'd say use the vegetable gardening for for the present time.
If/when there are enough threads and interest level for SFG to separate into a distinct forum, we can split it off then.
Well, currently the thread is in the Organic Gardening Forum. What about moving it to Vegetable Gardening where it would get more exposure?
I am STILL interested in an "Alternative" or "Intensive" or "Technical" Methods Forum. I believe it's use is becoming more widespread, and people looking for info on the web will show up here at DG, and if they could find the info they need *all in one place* (referring to forum), rather than scattered, they would stay and get hooked :-)
There's my ten cents worth (never could stop at two!)

I would love a Mittleider Method thread... there is actually a pretty big one on Yahoo forums already but it would be better here... Might add some members as well. Ill Bet Jim Kennard who runs www.growfood.com would participate and I know like Cricketstomatoes is a member of the other forum as are many others.
Drew
Terry,
Is it possible to move the thread, or should we just continue on the vegetable forum?
kaperc, I thought it was in Organic, and needs to be moved to vegetable? But now i see it is in the vegetable forum. :-)
I am with Drew on a new forum for all of us "unique personalities" who just like to use different methods. Maybe one day we could have a forum called Edible Landscaping? That might cover many of these technical methods, including companion planting...
Terry, sounds like we would have some built in experts for this new forum. ;-) HINT HINT
New forums are not up to me, and I think Dave's recent moratorium on new forums is an indication that he'd like to proceed with some caution.
I for one would like to see a forum for intensive gardening methods - but the best way to show Dave there's enough need is to fully utilize the forums at our disposal, and if the vegetable forum becomes overrun by SFG and raised bed discussions, the sales pitch will be much easier ;o)
Well....I thought it was in organics -- was I dreaming? I've had it on my watch list for so long, I don't look anymore. Sorry if I misspoke. :-(
Maybe we should start a couple more threads to stir up some interest?
k
Drew, why don't you start one on the Mittledier method. When I get it goind, i'll start one on the Garden Wizard. WE already have one on compnaion planting, and three sisters planting.
Terry, I thought the hold off on new forums was while he worked on the diary or got ready for the RU, since he said not until AFTER 4/24. Today is 4/30 :-D
Tamara
Edited to add Earthbox would be another "method" that would fit in this new forum, if created.

Tamara, I could be wrong, but I think the moratorium was to give US a breather, not Dave. At the time he institituted it, we had requests for new forums pouring in from every direction. While each suggestion for a new forum is always given consideration, it's a lot better for everyone if we add them gradually, as the need for each forum becomes evident.
Well, YOU certainly deserve a rest too :-)
Not to keep rattling on, but another method that could be included is the American Intensive Method. I am readin gabout that now, and will start a thread (somehwere) when I can. And Astrologiacl Gardening is something else I would be willing to discuss on a daily basis.
So while Terry and the other Admin crew are taking a breather, and perhaps getting to work in their own gardens, we who think the forum is merited can start threads in other forums and see how many others seem interested.
