That says just about all. It was a great time.
About the distance, carefull checking shows that we did travel further than Maggie, by one mile.
It has been raining here since 10:30 this morning. We really needed it this time.
All the plants we brought back are in good condition so far. Now, if we don't kill them----
I am sorry we left before we really got a chance to talk to Kipper, but maybe next time.

Trois, yes, I checked also and saw that you were the winners in traveling the farthest (except... did I tell you that I live on the east side of Conroe? That may add another mile and a half to my trip...) Lol! Just goes to show how dedicated you are!
We're getting some "weepy" type rain up here, hope it amounts to something that actually waters the plants. It's too damp to work in the garden, but not wet enough to call the garden watered. It's been really cool, too, I've had to wear a jacket outside! We're supposed to be back in the mid 80's in a couple of days though.
I finally unloaded all my plants from the car, I may be posting pics of some of them because there are a few that are unmarked, and I don't remember what they are (they say the memory is the first thing to go.... I don't remember what the first thing is). They all seem happy to be in a garden though, instead of taking a long ride in the car! :-)
Hazel, you are really incredible. I don't know how you keep up with all of us, and all your plants, and still have time for your DH!
:-)
And we are 3.5 miles North of Santa Fe. It is very close. Too close to call.
We are getting a pretty good rain. We have several plants not yet planted.
So much to do.
trois
I have some that are unmarked too and I have no idea what they are. Be happy ... I am sharing some of your plants with Dave and his friend because neither could attend the Roundup. Your plants growing at Dave's ... what a thought.
Maggie, being retied helps and I am a true workaholic. I guess that's why we get along ... I'm too busy with my plants, doing everything else and being on the computer to waste time disagreeing! :o) Did yours have white labels or were those Margie's? Y'all were gone on Sunday so I didn't know whose were whose.
Jester, you are invited to stop by sometime to peruse the plants I have to offer too since you could not attend either.
John, anything you want on my plant list on the first thread about the Roundup and on the second thread where I added more? Just let me know and I will ship them to you when I have a chance.
Trois, if Maggie can prove she travelled the farthest, do you have to send her your gift?
Hazel, any native or adapted plants suited to zone 7 appeal to me as I have but a yard that needs to be turned into gardens. I will reimburse you for the shipping.
Looks like a good time was had by all!! I loved seeing your pictures -- it is so good to put names with faces and see you all in such a natural setting. :-)
Terrie
You bet, Donna.
I don't think that Maggie needs the Body Wash package.

I have been terribly remiss in not pointing out what an integral part Margie/loudigger played in this CTRU.
Margie sent out invitations to people for months, she had her daughter print up really nice name tags for us to use and then bought holders for them to set in. She came out Friday and brought lunch, supplies, blew up balloons, drove her car so I could jump out and tie up balloons to mark the way. She helped me put up the 2 dining flies in the photo below. (Oh, Margie! If only they knew!!! : - } ) She brought ice, tablecloths, a table, a bag of soil and pots in case anyone wanted to repot/divide anything. She paid for half the brisket (that we bought precooked at HEB. Thanks, Tim Duncan!), plus brought wonderful gifts for a terrific game. She also drove me 10 miles one way to the post office to get a package and fronted me $10 for sodas when I forgot my wallet. And I would be willing to bet there is WAY more she did that I forgot!!
Thank you, Margie!!! You are an absolute jewel and I consider myself very fortunate to have had you as co-conspirator for this event!!

I have noticed during my time at Dave's that she is a sweet and kind lady.
Me too, me too!
Looks like you all had an awesome time! So sorry I had to miss out on all the fun. Maybe next time...
Thank you all for sharing your great stories and pictures :)
Gretchen
Something else you all need to know about Margie. Her DG name is pronounced "loo-digger". I always thought it was "loud-digger." Margie, I meant to ask you where the name came from. Wish we could have visited longer, you're someone I'd really like to know better.
So did I. Made sense to me. I can get loud when I dig. Try to watch it when women and children are around though.
LOL!! I have to watch out for my groaning.
I don't think I have had so much fun in years. It's so amazing that so many people who have only spoken through a keyboard can get together and have such a wonderful time, and have so much in common (such as attending the same junior high at the same time). What a shock! I'm already excited about the next RU. And I can't wait to see how my DH is related to Ernest. We were talking about this after everybody left. It's almost a sure bet that Tom and Ernest have a common ancestor somewhere around l855 or so.
I wish I had taken notes, because I have forgotten almost everything I heard about the plants I brought home. It's too late to think now, but I will make a list of plants I have questions about. I have tried to find them in Plant Files, but not much luck. Could be I was just too tired at ll:30 last night just as I am tonight. They all look great, but I have to admit I am a little paranoid about killing some of them. Especially the brug and the disco belle hibiscus.
I keep thinking about the diary thing you were talking about maggiemoo. I will try to take a look at that tonight to see if I think I can keep up with that.
Well, that's it for tonight. Mary Lee
Maggiemoo, I finally read your diary. Wow! You and your camera take great pictures. The ARE should hire you!. Mary Lee
WOW, that was a great read and I loved seeing you.
I was at the Ga swap, but with ya'll in spirit.
Looks like great time was had by all.
All of you look great and , pardon, but find Trois' wife Barbara just beautiful!
Trois, I pictured you much more thin and similar to my DGD, Papa. But you're not and now will think of the real you now when we chat.

Mary Lee,
Aw, garsh (blushing.) Thanks! It certainly helps that they have such beautiful subjects. All a person has to do is stand back and start shooting! :-)
I had such a great time at the RU that next time I'm taking a tent and will come a day early, and not leave until the very latest that I can. I also hope to have a little project finished by then, a little surprise for you guys. What is this surprise you ask? You have come to the RU to see! ;-)
I have photographed and catalogued all the plants that made it home with me from the round up http://davesgarden.com/journal/ed/index.php?tabid=148
Could I get y'all to take a gander at it and fill in any holes in the info that you can?
It would be greatly apprecited!
Donna
Hee hee! "Would someone please come to the office and claim their children?"
sugarweed, I did order the XXXL t-shirt.
I agree, my wife is beautiful.
She says thank you. She was 79 on the 19th of April.
Hi everybody. I have been doing research on the plants I got at the RU and having a SOME success. I can't find coral nymph salvia, can't remember who gave to me or what they said to do with it. Same problem with tibouchina urvilleana, salvia leucantha, black foot daisy and spicy jatropha. Thanks Mary Lee
PS I did finally find spicy jatropha in the plant files. I think I got from HTOP. Do you keep yours in a pot? Sorry, I probably asked you this at the RU, but if you answer on this thread then instead of asking you again I can go back and read the thread. Thanks, Mary Lee
Mary Lee, the coral nymph salvia and the salvia leucantha (Mexican bush sage), came from me. They both should be treated like any other salvias - good drainage, drought tolerant once established, full sun.
This picture is of the coral nymph shortly after I got it, and later in the year. You should dead-head the flowers when they fade to keep it bushy, it will bloom from Spring through Fall. It re-seeds readily, but the seedlings are easy to pull if they aren't where you want them.
This is a bad (over-exposed, the sun was blazing!) shot of the Mexican bush sage in its glory. I shot it last year (5/4) at a nursery in Navasota, and was sold. They are supposed to bloom primarily in the fall, sometimes a little in the spring, but I keep seeing these wonderful displays like this in the spring. The flowers are soft and velvety, I can't keep my hands off of them! :-)
Donna, your organization just knocks my socks off. When I get a few hours of downtime (about August) I will review it more carefully.
I got just a half dozen or so From Ga. and dont know what half are, or who they came from.
maggimoo, so it was you that brought the coral nymph salvia babys. I ended up adopting most all the leftovers on Sunday and ended up with 6 of the salvias and many other things. On the way home I stopped by my MIL in Shiner (if you're traveling that way, let me know. Her yard is FANTASTIC) and she picked through. When I got home, a good friend/gardener meet me and picked some more. I'm taking some time off from the store next week to repot "many new things".
That Salvia is really neat!
Hey Maggie, thanks so much for posting that pic of the Coral Nymph Salvia! I just bought that one about 3 weeks ago and didn't have a name for it :-). She's a really pretty one isn't she :-)
-Julie
Mary Lee, the Coral Nymph salvua does well in partial shade too. It is one of my favorites.
tibouchina urvilleana - I grow it in partial shade and in a container because I'm scared it will freeze.
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1212/index.html
Blackfoot daisy - most have full sun and well drained soil
http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/259/index.html
spicy jatropha - I grow it in a large container because mine is now going on 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet in diameter. I can plant it in the ground here with heavy mulch in the winter now that the branches are thick and it might not die totally back to the ground. But it might freeze to the ground during a hard freeze. It should come back up from the roots if it does. In your zone, I would keep it in a container. It will take any sun exposre (no total shade).
John, the Coral Nymph salvia would be great for your native look and spreads easily. Want some?
Yes, ma'm! :-)
I just cannot express the wonderful feeling when I see posts on the forums from the wonderful friends I met at the RU! Seeing dstarz, silverfluter, htop, trois, kipper2, catbird8 and loudigger posts now - no matter what thread or who they are talking to - make my heart just giggle.
I'm eager to add to that list, hope to meet many more of you at the November RU!
Ditto here maggiemoo.......or was that a "cut"?
(here it is).... ;o)~
rotf!
