Coffee and...part 13 :-D

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Really enjoying all the 'family talk!' This past week my sister was home for a visit - she brought the tape 'Don't sweat the small suff" We listened to it as we drove - it was really good. I was house/teensitting and got paid for it. Since she didn't get a penny, she refused to lift finger. The last day there, I cleaned the whole house by myself (5 bedrooms - 4 baths) - even the huge, deep whirlpool tub that I asked her not to use (she used it daily) I had to get inside it to clean it!! I love her dearly, and most of the time can overlook her faults (I have them too I am sure). Oh, by the way, I put over 1100 miles on my car driving places while she was home, she has a new car and didn't want to put any miles on it!! nuff said about how cheap she is....

DH has 9 siblings - they never see each other, never call, just don't seem to care about each other. For example, one will be in the hospital and we never hear about it till months later. Strange group, I'd say!

Speaking of red valarian - I cannot keep that darn thing alive!!! And when I keep it alive for a year or two, it only flowers once. While my neighbor has them reseed alllll over and hers blooms continuously! I am going to buy one more and try it - if it doesn't make it = never again!

Supposed to get a hard freeze tonight and then a warming starts = can't wait - my house is loaded with plants that won't fit in the greenhouse. Plus, I suspect I will have to host the 'mothers day' gala again. My DIL's have never had it (they say they work and I am retired) (I am trying hard not to sweat the small stuff, but I am dripping with sweat.... LOL)

Back to Contours this morning after a week off - I imagine it will be like starting over as my eating has been out of control for a week.

81 yr old parents are coming out for DH to go with them to have their trailer checked out. Gives me the willies having them on the road, much less with a trailer behind them! Did I ever tell ya that I am a terrible worrier????

Yep! Families can cause all kinds of heartache...whether it be the part of the family you grew up in, or the part you marry into, or the part you produce for yourself. LOL

I've been there, and done that...in all "parts." My only conclusion is that there's usually not much we can do to change any of it. I do the best I can and have finally learned (for the most part...HAhahaha) how to say *no*. That doesn't mean I don't feel guilty...just that *they* can't use the guilt against me anymore.
:-D

I spent almost the entire day yesterday outside. I planted things that really needed to go in the ground, sat in the lawn chair while it snowed on me, froze my fingers off trying to water in the new plants (perennials that have already proven they could handle the temps) and had a *great* day! ~grin~ (seriously!)

You see...I can't afford to lose even one day of 'freedom' (not having to take care of the baby). So I *had* to get as much done as possible.

Today is the appointment with the eye surgeon. I'm really hoping that we can get this cataract thing done and out of the way quickly.

Welcome to Dcat...you fit in good here at our GOB table. Glad you decided to stop lurking and join us! ;-)

Darius, I'm glad you and your sister finally 'talked.' (I mean to ask you earlier, does she know about your trips to the hospital?)

Sarv...have you gotten your cannas from 'Eyes' yet? If not, I think we should get them sometime this week. I'm anxious to get mine and get them in the ground. The ones I planted a week or so ago are already breaking ground and doing fine. (Last year I had quite a few rot with all the rain we had. This year, it looks like I'll be spending a lot of time holding the hose.)

Well...it's time to hit the shower and start getting ready for the eye doctor's appointment. I'll be back this afternoon to let y'all know how it went.

Julie, good luck with your dr appointment, let us know how it turns out. I am working outside today, have painted an antique garden push plow to go in a flower bed, am stripping the sealer off my front porch preparing to re-do it. (It's exposed aggregate). Have some tilling to do, after while if the ground isn't too wet. Hardening off tomatoes, time to go put them out. Since I am feeling so much better, I am working myself to death, but it's great being able to do things I really enjoy.

Julie, Good Luck!!

When you get back, and after you give us an update, will you please start a new thread? And, yes, my sister knew I was in the hospital because I sent her an email before I went. She did finally ask how I was feeling when we talked yesterday. Twit. She certainly has extracted retribution though, by her decision. Leaves me high and dry.

Sarv, I'd trade sisters with you but the dissatisfaction might be the same. : )

Darius, somewhere along the way I must have missed something. I know the move with your sister is out, but do you have to move from your present place? You have put so much time and effort into making it your home, it seems a shame to leave all that.

I hate to bad-mouth anyone, but probably the best thing was that you found out how impossible living with your sister would be before the move was made. And she has a teen-age daughter too? Only Divine intervention saved you from that scenario!

Pati, I don't "have" to move out of here, but my doctor thinks all my lung problems are exacerbated by this apartment... the mold, and the brown film that gets on everything (including my lungs) from the unvented propane heater. Plus, I cannot make ends meet financially with just my SS check and I'm too ill to hold a job if I could get one around here.

Yes, I do think it was Divine Intervention that my sister and I got on the outs. Now I just need Divine Intervention to show me the way out of my dilemma. I think the coming of warm weather will give me time to enjoy this place in summer (without the heat on!), and time to do what's next.

Muscoda, WI(Zone 4b)

Darius...I'm praying for 'Divine Intervention" for you and your situation. How's THAT for a prayer? LOL

Thanks Dcat and Darius. I'm all showered and smellin' good so I don't 'offend' the doc when he gets 'up close and personal' with those eye checkin' instruments.

Darius...I was thinking that it must be time to start a new thread, myself...
so here it is http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/505473/

See y'all later,
