Coffee and...part 12 :-D

(Zone 7a)

I once shared the waiting room of a glaucoma specialist a couple of years ago with a couple discussing the cataract surgery one of them had had. Being the eternal big baby that I am when it comes to anyone in a white coat, it really impressed me to hear one of them say to the other how amazed he was at how well it all went in a shorter length of time than he expected. Not to mention seeing again. One friend of mine said he had forgotten you could see like that.

This is a tiny offering against your being too creative with finding reasons to procrastinate. We could be twins in that department - DH practically has to tie me to the roof of our car to get me to a doctor.

Let us know how things develop. Would it help to get in touch with someone who has had the surgery lately? That could be motivating.

Darius, did you see the picture Tazzy posted of herself on the Iris Forum "au naturel"? It really goes with your Thief poem. I believe roofers had not only fallen through her roof, but landed on her seedlings in her sunroom. A hilarious post.

Missed it, don't watch that Forum, but will look for it.

Took a look, funny! I met Tazzy last fall tat the KYRU, she's one funny lady.

What is the connection between galucoma and cataracts?

Darius, do you mean, "What was a person who had had cataract surgery doing in the waiting room of a glaucoma specialist?" My guess is that he was accompanying someone else either at risk or being treated for glaucoma and just making small talk. He sounded very matter-of-fact and soothing. Now, there's an idea for a book: How to Get in Touch with your Inner Matter-of-Fact and Soothing Self".

Our adored cat, Fifi, after a 6 month battle with cancer, died today. We had found a wonderful vet who not only extended her life but kept her comfortable. But we anticipated her getting to a point where putting her to sleep would be the kindest thing to do, and that time came today. She was a member of our family (no children), so fiercely independent and contrary, that her pleasure in life was quite a gift to us. It feels so wrong that she is not here right now.

Well, I've brought us all down again. DH and I, though, are very much richer for having had Fifi in our lives. She was 18.

Blue - sorry to hear about Fifi - 18 yrs, that's a ripe age for a cat (ours was put down at 18 too) We were catless for a year and then had one dumped on us - she's a treasure...

Many, many people I know have had cataract surgery - piece of cake. I am a total whimp when it comes to docs/hopspitals etc, but I could not bear to not see!! This is one proceedure I will have (should have gotten my nose done when I was younger - I've moaned about the size of it for my whole lifetime - never have sideways pics!!) LOL

Julie- ahhh plants. I am waiting for my 'canna co-op' order. I potted up over 100 dahlia tubers - now where in the world am I gonna plant that many. Plus hauled them in from the greenhouse last night- snow/bitter cold coming. whew- that was major work. And later I will have to haul them back out!!

Darius - have fun at the RU - I've never attended one, but would love to. W hat's the status of your living with your sister - is that kapoot? I cannot wear any rings- finger swell and they just feel ' pinchy'

My brother called me last night (I'm kid/housesitting for them) to tell me that it starts tonight and not Sat night - grrrrr. I told him to leave me some extra $$ as I wanted to take the girls out for dinner and go to a movie. He said he would leave 20 bucks extra. Good grief!! what a cheap skate!!! Last time I paid for all the extras myself, this time I thought I would get bolder and just ask for extra. Guess I'll end of dishing out my own $$ again. This is their 2nd cruise in 5 months. I tend to be a doormat....

Remember that yummy cheese bread I made for dinner? Well, I really pigged out on it (5 pieces) and slept all night with a big towel by my bed - my stomach was in an uproar. That'll teach me. When am I gonna learn better eating habits???

Have a great weekend everyone- I'm off later to the exercise joint, then coffee with the retired girls and then packing for the stay at my brothers....

Thanks for all the kind words and thoughts there Ladies. ((( ~ Hugs ~ ))) They are all appreciated.

Kooger, I knew you weren't ignoring my post. Silly girl. I'm the world's worst about posting at the same time someone else posts...and/or taking so much time to respond that I miss someone else's comment.

Darius, I've read that "Thieves on the Lose" email several times...but I still LOVE it! (It goes well with the Purple Hat story that I love so much.)

Sarv...thanks for the tip on starting the castor beans...and what *are* you going to do with *all* those dahlias?? ~grin~ You're as bad as me with my 50+ geraniums! LOL Yep...the weather is turning nasty here as I type. DH just came up from the basement and asked "Hasn't the rain started yet?" Then casually told me that we have a good chance at some snow showers. (Great! And I have a mountain of stuff that needs to be taken care of...oh well...isn't that always how it goes?)

Karen...just wanted to let you know I've really enjoyed all those Monet emails. You certainly made me take a look at his work from a different perspective. Twins, eh? Probably in more ways than we think. hehehe

Darius...have a good time at the RU and don't bring back more plants than you can *move*. hehehe

Guess I'd better get outside and get some things moved into a sheltered spot. And then I think I'll plant those castor beans and some veggies that need about a 2 week head start.

I'll check in later. And probably start up another 'session' for our group.

Hmmm...everyone must be really busy today. Or maybe it's because the table is empty and I haven't refilled the coffee/tea pot. Sorry 'bout that.
;-)

I spent most of the day running errands for the 'kids' in my life. But I did take the time to call and find out about my insurance. YES!! They *will* cover the cataract surgery!! Hooray!! So that means I'm going to have to get an appointment with the surgeon and try to make arrangements for an exam and decide when the best time for the surgery would be.

Well...that's my news. Hope your day has been a GOOD one, too!

Would you like to share some of my mandarin orange green tea? If I drink coffee this late, my stomach can match Sarv's stomach rumble for rumble after that cheese bread. Just reading Sarv's posts sometimes makes my stomach musical - LOL.

Routine chores/errands today - trying not to miss Fifi. I did write a verbose, windy post for this thread which I hope will make sense after I pare it down - not ready, yet.

Mainly, Julie, I am so delighted you are going to do the cataract surgery. It's been a huge relief to people I know who have done it.

We've had a couple of days with gentle showers - dormancy is gone here. Made little bouquets of Viburnum carlesi, daffie 'Thalia', rock cress, deep purple johnny-jump-ups and a rich-pink-purple tulip for kitchen and desk. The tulips and johnny-jump-ups were planted last fall, but the rest have naturalized pretty well. Kooger, this is the topic of my windy post - gardening, with time and money problems, was always something we did in spurts, in between catastrophes and job and various endeavors.

Gotta go - medicine time for our last geriatric stray putty-tat. DH reminds me this is part of loving most beings.

Thanks Karen...

(I know that Fifi is in Pet Paradise with all my well loved pets and I just know they're 'tearing up jake' as I type. ;-))

Forgot to tell everyone I started a new 'session' for our GOB's...you can find it here:

Now it's time for me to do *my* meds routine...took care of Jasmine's Heartgard yesterday.

See y'all in the morning.

Bue,

My heart aches for you. We had to put down "Our" little Punkies, a shih tzu about 3 years ago. I have three kids, my husband 4, but she was 'Ours". The two babies that we are, we used to sit and cry over her....this lasted a couple of years believe it or not. But now we have Archibald, another Shih Tzu and he's a 180 from our little girl. He's all boy, well what's left of him. As I said his name is Archibald and now that he has had surgery we call him Archi-balless. He hasn't caught on to the saying as yet, thank God.

I see that you have another cat...I hope that will help. But it's like saying that if I lost one of my kids, that I would still have 2 more. That doesn't cut it. They are all different and each is his own spirit.

Will pray..

Hap

Sarv, Julie and Happy, thank you. We've rescued and loved a lot of strays, and you never get used to losing any of them. They are each as unique and idiosyncratic as any human. Our true wealth is the time they gave us.
