A question about the emails

Linden, TN

How do you delete the old ones that are now dead? I have several that I really would like to delete... but being a new kid on the block so to speak, cannot find anything about how to do it...

Thanks
Carolyn

Good question from a new kid on the block. Welcome from an old kid.
I haven't seen anyway to do it as yet.

Carolyn and Jim,
There isn't any way to delete your emails. It's been talked about on many threads in Dave's forums.

Hi Jim, ;-)

Has anyone gone to Dave about it? I mean I already have two pages of emails, and I have only been a member here for a coupla weeks... There has got to be some way of doing it..doncha think??

Maybe I shall ask Dave... now... how do I get aholda him??

Thanks,
Carolyn

The reason is, each e-mail is shared between two parties on each "thread".

Since this question seems to come up fairly frequently, I figured it was high time to add it to the "Home" tab's FAQs: http://davesgarden.com/faq/home/#174

If anyone has suggestions for making the wording clearer, please let me know.

What would be very helpful is if we could "hide" chosen mail threads, kind of like threads on the ID forum may be marked "solved" and filtered out from view. Would some sort of folder system be possible?

Every once in awhile I like to go back to an old email. There was one I couldn't find, that had a picture of a brugmansia I am growing. Not sure where it went. But sometimes the old emails come in handy.

Oh, on my computer and backups, I have certain e-mails archived clear back to 1996! I very rarely look at anything older than a year, but they all serve as a journal of sorts, especially those that were written/received before I began posting at DG and blogging on my own website.

Russ said there was a way for me to archive my regular emails (like good jokes I occasionally am sent) that arhives them to my hard drive and doesn't fill up my space on my email. I suppose I could save certain emails to my "favorites" under the file gardening - then email, right? (If I'm making any sense).

Depending on what e-mail program you use, the process differs, but you can usually have an e-mail open and do a "save-as" and save it in a text document. There are ways to do them in batches with third-party programs, too.
