The seller might be willing to do a phytosanitary certificate if you guided her on how to go about it, Sandy.

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

She has offered a 10% discount....would folks still be interested at $4.49/pack? I think she pays the shipping. I am waiting to hear from her on the phytosanitary certificate. I'll keep you all updated.

Needville, TX(Zone 9a)

Jospeh, you cross your fingers and pray really hard :) It is the chance we take.

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

I think the phyto takes care of things, so they arent seized.

For an inspector to properly inspect them, (s)he would have to open the packets. That wouldn't be too cool.

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

Ok...here's the latest. I had (3) pkts of seeds I purchased from another ebay seller confiscated by US Customs in Chicago a couple days ago. I am really bummed at not getting the seeds I really wanted, plus the loss of money.

I have been in touch with this other seller (Yuriko) and this is what she told me:

I just would like you to know that it is easy to
get a test at the Custom here.
I have sent the seeds with the certification.
Since it was my first time to send more than 20 packs
ofseeds to US. I was affraid to be seized by the
customs over there. I called the Customs here and
asked them what should I do.

They said,
"It should be an easy test because the packs are in
the brand new package sold normaly and because the
morning glories are not prohibited to send to US.
We open packages and check 1 seed and pack carefully
again. You just have to fill in a sheet of paper with
the name, address and phone # of you and your friends
who will get the seeds. Put the sheet on the packet
you send and mail it from a post office. We will check
it for you."
So I did it and my friend told me he recieved the
seeds in a perfect condition!

So, if you would still be interested in ordering considering the additional prorated costs, please email me through DG with the subject line: Morning Glorys from Japan. Just give me a simple response of "yes, I want in" or something like that.
Once I get the rest of the details/costs from Yuriko I will post a new thread to keep better track of this.

Thanks!
Sandy

Isn't she great, Sandy?

Tonasket, WA(Zone 5a)

I am interested in getting some different varieties, but Ronnie asked the question that I would like the answer to also. How many seeds in a packet are we talking. I looked at the whole link and did not see anywhere where # of seeds was indicated. DonnaS

Jones Creek, TX(Zone 9a)

That would be great Sandy, please keep us informed. The loss of seed is a real worry to me and one of the reasons I don't try and put together co-ops myself. Lots of money could be lost if the seed are confiscated and dissapointment of not haveing the seed.

I think this person would do this and we won't have so many problems in the future. Thanks for all the info and I am looking forward to getting a seller in Japan that would be willing to do this.

How many seeds are in a pkg.?

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

We don't know at this point how many seeds per package. I am following up and will post something here as soon as I know. I purchased one of the varieties she's offering through another seller and there are about 30 seeds in the package.

Until next time!

Franklin, WI(Zone 5a)

Yuriko has informed that there is NO CHARGE to obtain the certificate to get the seeds to clear customs. I have seen other seed companies charge anywhere from $11 to $50.00 for this, so I am wondering if there really is no charge, and the seed provider sets the rate for the certificate for their time and trouble? Anyway, I am pretty sure Japan is nighttime when we are daytime so I have emailed Yuriko for the quantities of seed in each package if she has that information available, but I do not expect to hear from her until some time tomorrow. Please remember that this coop is not a "money saving" coop as most others are when ordering in large quantity. Please consider that there will be add-on costs to ship the seeds from me to you (bubble mailer & postage). If you can't afford the cost but really want some of the seeds perhaps it is best to work something out with another forum member to split the packets of seeds (once we know how many per pack). I have not yet worked out all the details in my mind yet, I am hoping to find out quantities of seeds first so I can run another "final" thread for those who are comitted to participate. This thread is only to make others aware of the possible coop, and if you are definitely interested regardless of the add-ons for shipping (and maybe insurance), I have asked to be emailed privately thru DG. I am going to make this as cost conservative as possible and am hopeful that the seeds will clear customs with Yuirko obtaining the certificate. Whew! I'll keep you updated!

Thanks~

Sandy

Judsonia, AR(Zone 7b)

Sandy, She's updated her web site, and has added the number of seeds in each packet now.
