Slow...

McKinney, TX(Zone 8a)

Just wondering what's going on. Dave, it's not the search being reinstated, is it?

Glad to see others are experiencing the same thing!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I posted on another thread and now it is working just fine for me. OOPS! That didn't last long. I will be patient. I'm sure the DG staff will have us rolling along smoothly in no time.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It was slow for me most of the early afternoon, but seems a little better right now.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

It's still slowly for me since this am!

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I'm not having as many problems with the slowness today, but yesterday I thought I was gonna timeout from work, and that's DSL. Last night I tried surfing a bit from home, but with dialup, it was almost impossible.

Today has seemed much better, although earlier it was a little slower than normal.

It's terrible today. There for a while I thought maybe his server had been hacked since I couldn't get any pages to load....

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I couldn't even get on for about 2 hours today. It would take forever trying to load up, then I would get the "cannot find server" thingy.

Seems to be quite a bit better now.

Shalimar, FL(Zone 8a)

I have to agree. Been pretty slow!
I thought maybe I had a pest, but pest patrol said it was clean.
Glad to have found this thread. It makes me feal I'm not alone.
I guess we must be growing out of our shoes!

Denver, CO(Zone 5b)

LOL I too am glad I found this thread, seems very slow, and even times out on me here. Not worried.. lol I just need my fix!

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Sheesh, so many people complaining and I have not had a problem for a long time.

Ewing, KY(Zone 6a)

I did earlier, kept telling me connection was refused to DG. Seems to be ok now.

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

George, you most likely have DSL or some other fast speed connection?

I have that at work, but that's not normally where I garden. Today I took a vacation day to do spring chores at home, and I can only get dial up here in rural North Dakota. Believe me, I've tried everything to get a faster connection, to no avail.

It was very discouraging when I wanted to look something up today, prior to just doing it and hoping for the best, which is what I ended up doing in a lot of cases.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Yes, I have DSL and I realize how lucky I am. I had dial up some time back and know how slow that is. AND now pictures are much larger so that aggravates the problem. Is there any hope of getting cable of satellite?

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

No hope of cable, DSL, or satellite at this time. I've tested dishnet to the max, as well as our telephone companies. They tell me there's not enough population in our area to be feasible.

And, we've been trying for 2 years to get CBS via dishnet, (dishnet we have), and it's always denied. They say we should be able to get a local feed. Well, we can't, and they won't believe us, nor will they come out and see for themselves. If we could get a local feed, why would we be trying so hard to PAY for one? (Okay, that's another gripe. LOL)

It's almost making me want to move to a different location, but we just built this house in 2002. Seems like we are stuck for awhile yet, especially since DH and I are both elected and have to live in the county that has no fast internet connections or CBS. :(

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I am on cable and DG has been very slow all day. I've checked in here several times today, and only stayed a few minutes as it took so long to bring up a thread. It is happening now also. I just waited for this Forum, so I could post this and see if anyone else was having problems also.

Donna

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Ditto to Donna -- We have cable and for a while I just gave up. Other pages I visit loaded fine, but DG stalled.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Well it's working wonderful today for me, but yesterday was bad. I was going to call my DsL folks and say, HAY ! I know them in real life, so I can call mess with them.

Scott

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

We had tremendous problems with our cable internet connection yesterday. (DG was slow from time to time, but other sites wouldn't pull up at all.)

I lay the blame at Comcast's feet for that one, although Google may have some culpability too. (I could search Google as usual, but anytime I tried to access any of the results, I got the infamous "website cannot be found" error message.)

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

My browser has been crashing lately...figured it was something up with Mozilla, not DG...usually when I tried to upload a picture...things are smoother in the last 24 hrs.

Shalimar, FL(Zone 8a)

Working just great for me today!
I have cable, too. Lets blame the cable!! ;-)
JenG

The server was very overloaded yesterday, really all day long. We had some moment of extremely high load. I don't know if it was the search engine or what, but it was hard keeping it calmed down.

Sigh.

Actually, I am currently working on getting a half rack at a colocation provider. If I can do that, we'll have unlimited bandwidth plus all the servers I can build. I could easily fit 5 4U servers in a half rack.

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

Dave, that is quite a change from your original site. The Garden has really grown!

Northern California, CA

Quoting:
I lay the blame at Comcast's feet

Oh no, let me lay the blame at the big feet of SBC......any chance to grouse about them relieves the stress level. DSL stands for Darn Slow Load at SBC

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

It's a bummer to have to look into more hardware, Dave. One of the strongest points of Forums lies within the Forums search feature, though, and I'd be willing to pay a higher subscriber fee to maintain that search. :)

Donna

Thanks for your willingness, Donna, but happily I don't think it'll come to that. We certainly can afford bigger hardware; it's more like it's a matter of available time for our system administrator (that'd be me) :)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

:)

Shalimar, FL(Zone 8a)

ah-oh! Pretty slow again.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Yesterday and this morning it was extremly slow at times. And some times wouldn't load at all. A few minutes later it was alright. This was just on Dave's and all the other sites I visited loaded great.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Jim, you visit OTHER SITES?? Who has time, LOL.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Very slow for me too and I have high speed cable.

What's a half rack? I thought it was ribs. LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Was slow about a 1/2 hour ago for me, too. Now it's fairly good.

Hindsville, AR(Zone 6b)

I just wanted to mention that I have noticed (earlier today) a general problem (not at all limited to DG,I think)...perhaps a new virus or DOS attack has been spreading recently?

Chicago, IL(Zone 5b)

Called Comcast yesterday and got a recording saying they were having problems nationwide.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Our access has been spotty. I know Adelphia's upgraded (or is upgrading) customers to faster connection speed. They're also being bought by another Cable Co., so things might get even more interesting!

Millersburg, PA(Zone 6b)

Oh great. I have Adelphia and dialup. Have tried Dave's several times today. Was OK in late afternoon, now back to slow load. Yesterday I ranall the AdAware, Spybot and AVG sytem checkers as I thought it might be my computer. It was clean.

It is great to see this site growing by leaps and bounds.

Oak Grove, MN(Zone 4a)

Running irregularly here. Often slow, sometimes fast, sometimes "cannot find server". I have cable modem at home, T3 at work, no difference in performance that I can see from one to the other.

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Slow here this morning, got that page cannot be found error message when trying to post, went back, tried it again and then it posted twice but I had to go look at the thread before I knew that. Right now it seems fast enough but it sure has it's moments that probably coincide with peak usage times. We live in an instant world and want everything quickly. Have patience folks, Dave will get it fixed, he always does.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Mary I was having problems all during the day and night.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

It was very slow for me earlier this afternoon. The pages just kept timing out. It's running well right now, though.
