So, does DG slow down in Spring & Summer?

Springboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Hi, all :) I joined DG last August, but didn't become a subscriber until October (I think), so DG during the growing season isn't something I've enjoyed yet :)

I was wondering if the forums see most of the action during the cold months when everyone's thinking about plants but can't see past 10 inches of snow? Or do things actually pick up during the warmer months because everyone wants to share what's growing in their neck of the woods? Just wondering how "peak" gardening season outside coincides with DG. It may be my imagination, but it seems like things have already begun to slow a bit. Maybe it goes in phases regardless of the season?

Hugs :)

I enjoy it more in summer. More garden photos are posted & more discussion about gardening instead of MIL's sore toe! LOL.

It has been painfully slow the last few days! This time of year everyone is out weeding, sowing grass, starting seeds, cleaning out greenhouse, etc. Soon we will see the photo forum take off and see a rush of photos on all the forums but chatter seems to slow down. I took a leave from Target for a month or so and have really been going nuts around the house. BUT, being home more means the baby wants me more. When I sit down to feed and read, there doesn't seem to be as many new posts as there were just a few weeks ago.

We see more signups, more subscriptions, more page views, more visitors, and more entries to the Watchdog between now and June/July. The number of PF photos is also on the upswing again - pretty normal for this time of year. I predict after the spring rush, we'll stabilize and level off until late summer, then see a gentle, gradual decline in activity until about February, when it starts all over again ;o)

As far as actual forum posts go, Dave would have to answer that. I know our posts have been generally trending upwards - we were averaging (if memory serves) around 1,000 to 1,200 posts a day last year at this time, and started hitting 1,000 to 1,500 last summer. Now it's not unusual to have 2,000+ posts a day, although 1,700 or so seems to be about average.

I will definitely be posting more during the months that I'm planting and outside. I also spend a lot of time reading other posts and forums which could be what a lot of people are doing now. :)

I guess I'm one of the few that actively post during the winter months because it is my best season for growing tomatos. However if you are not interested in the tomato forum I guess you could say it's quiet. I like to experiment with different varieties of tomatos and pass the info along so my Yankee friends (of which I am a relocated one)can base their garden on some of my findings and visa versa thru the summer months of July, August and September when it gets too hot for tomatos.
