It's been really icky and wet wet wet since Sunday......the gray storm clouds parted a few minutes ago and I went to check on Scarlet. I assumed that the monster winds that took out a few pots and ripped an arbor out of the ground would have knocked her down for the count.
NOT SO!!! This is "Scarlet" decked out in her party clothes for 2005! She really is scarlet, not that pale sad lady she was last year.....I am pleased with this really bright spot in a soggy beaten up garden. :-)
Last year she was absolutely pale! http://davesgarden.com/contest/2004/image.php?rid=2178
As the storm clouds parted, a dark & sultry lady appeared...
Oh my, She is really a beauty! Look at that color!
Candy, that is one gorgeous brug bloom. Thanks so much for the pictures.
L-O-V-E-L-Y!

Absolutely stunning. What a striking color.
WOW, she's beautiful
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
oh so beautiful.. lucky you.. so nice to share pictures of it...
i'm speechless. why do yo suppose color got vivid this year?
I just had to run out and look at her again before it got dark.....maybe she likes all the rain and cold weather. :-)
She had a hard life her first winter (2003), she started out the summer as a 4" potted plant, got beaten up and broken off at least a couple of times, tried to bloom but got fried in a couple of heat waves. Eventually she probably put out a total of maybe 4 blooms all last year. "Scarlet" was the name on her when I purchased her, although I can't find any verifiable cultivar by that name. I think she is finally getting her strength back and I did give her a lot of fertilizer last fall.
She really is "Scarlet" ! Here's the entry in the PlantFiles

Candy...Is this the brug you have out front? Really dark and beautiful this year! She must love the rain and cool weather!!
magnifique!
No Margie, that's the yellow one, http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/62890/index.html . Ms Scarlet is still a straggly funny looking thing over on the side of the garage. Not much of a plant to look at, but I'm just really thrilled with the color!
It is BEAUTIFUL!
Bonnie
She's striking Candy. You are a miracle worker. :-)
She's beautiful, Candy

What a rich lovely color! Your so lucky to be able to grow this.... By far one of the prettiest flowers I've ever seen in bloom.
That is the closest thing I've seen to a real red. That is just amazing!
Thanks for sharing that lady
blaine
Thanks you guys, I'm just so happy to see her true color! Just checked and the second bloom hasn't changed, we are supposed to have a warm sunny day today so perhaps it will open too.
That's a beautiful color.
Richard smiles back and winks at the Beautiful Lady 'Scarlet'!
Absolutely Gorgeous!!!
Wowser!!!
I want one! I LONG for a red one! All mine are pink, peach, yellow or white!
Candy, your Brug is absolutely gorgeous! I find it amazing how much the flowers can differ from one year to the next.
And she seems to be holding her color on day three too! :-)
I think her generally improved health has contributed to the better color this year and also the liberal applications of commercially bagged manure that I use throughout the year in the garden.
She is one beautiful lady!
She is a beauty, Candy, what a striking color - I love her tendrils. I must tell you that I thought she was a show stopper last year too, I love her any color she chooses to wear!!!
That's about the size this plant was when I purchased it in the fall of 2003. Good luck with her!
