Someone emailed this to me today - free shipping sale going on. I have never purchased from them, but thought I'd share this with anyone that might have interest.

Tropical Plant Sale
I believe someone else got this same link and felt it was spam or what I would call bad choice in advertising. Did you get this through DG?
I had one a few days ago ... I deleted it. I did not know where it came from. I must of deleted it while I was at work .... it is not in my deleted file.
I called the # and spoke with a man that says it is a legitimate ad, not spam. these are tissue culture and size of plants are 6". Never heard of them before. There are a couple of EE that look interesting for the price.
I got an e-mail from an Erin Luper, who I do not recognise as someone that I have corresponded with. I wonder how they got my regular (not Dave's) e-mail. I know that Dave does not give out that information so I presume it is by way of someone that I corresponed directly with.
Edited to add the link to the thread that I started. davesgarden.com/forums/t/493861/

Vossner, I don't want you to think I am picking on you. :O) I am wondering if they are just buying legitimate mailing lists or shopping the first posts here at DG? For all I know, everyone shops the same catalogues. LOL
they couldn't have got my email address through Dave's, because Dave's now has that internal email system, and the email came to my yahoo email address, which Dave doesn't have.
When I signed up for that (yahoo) address, I clicked gardening as one of my interests, and I assumed that is how they found me.
Oh Badseed, my skin is thicker than that! Don't worry about it. I was not defending the guy, I don't know him from Adam, don't even know where Sweetwater, TX is. But I was attracked 'cause I thought the prices were pretty good for a couple of the plants. I am suspicious, however, and when he asked me on what website I I've seen the ad, I mentioned a website that was not DG. He seemed very familiar with the name I mentioned. Don't really know why I did that, but I did (bending head down in shame, but not too much shame LOL).
I haven't checked the other website to see if the ads have really appeared there.
Maybe Dave has heard of the place??????
LOL Vossner. :O) I did also check the website. The prices are really fair on some of the plants. With free shipping, I'd yell JACKPOT! I am just wondering if anyone has ordered and what the bulbs looked like when they arrived. Anyone want to double dog dare me to make an order? LOL
Not only do I double dog dare you, I QUADRUPLE dog dare you!!!!
Double triple dog dare.
Jeesh! You are all such floosies with my money! I'll place and order later today and see how it goes. :)
badseed don't feel bad. DH says I'm a floosie w/ his money--see I an equal opportunity spender LOL
Check the comments in the Garden WatchDog
Note to self: do not make a move without checking the watchdog, thanks Cheryl for checking. This is definitely the same business. Apparently used to be in Bowie, now in Sweetwater, wherever that is.
Badseed, I take my quadruple dog dare back.
Though rating is bad, 2 entries is not enough of a sample. I am willing to take a $5 risk for an alocasia sarian. Boy, he doesn't know what he has coming if he messes up...I will tell everybody in this solar system and the adjacent galaxy. will keep everybody posted.
well I did it. I spoke w/ David Luper, owner, and told him i'm sending a check for 1 alocasia sarian. I did mention to him that his rating in the Watchdog wasn't exactly glowing but I would give him a chance and was counting on him to not make me regret it (was that too harsh???)
anyway, he says plants are 3-4" with full root systems. we'll see if this fellow texan is for real.
I don't think you were too harsh. I think he realizes that if he can get business from this network of gardeners he will be sitting pretty.
So, Erin Luper may be his wife. I replied to her e-mail asking where she got my address. No answer as of yet.
yea,...we dont want to be floosies with your money if you might get ripped off.
I don't know if Erin is this man's wife, but when I called, a woman answere and said: "let me let you talk to my husband--I do candles, he does plants". for whatever it's worth.
I went to the website, started to order, then checked GWD and saw who he is on Ebay. No way.
Who is it on Ebay? LOL Glad I decided not to floosie. :)
Chelle, go to Garden Watchdog, it's there in his information.
Yep - I got the email from "Erin Luper" as well. And it sounded so personal, as if she knew me from somewhere. Thing is, my email at Dave's is msn, not yahoo. Mystery.
Is this Ebay person a scammer or something?
I got the same email, but deleted it without reading it.
My email here on DG goes to an address that forwards it to my work address, so I'm curious as to how they got the email, too!
I agree with Karrie20x vossner, not harsh at all, and he'll be pleased if he pleases you!
So I guess you're our 'guinea pig', so to speak....be sure to let us know what you think and how long it takes to reach you!
Here is the specific Watchdog page http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/3543/
Hope they have turned around because the prices do sound good.
Like penquins jostling around a water hole I dove in to see what lurked below. I ordered a Musa Dwarf Red banana plant. When I paid via Paypal I included a note that said,
"...I am a member of DavesGarden.com..... I hope to be able to give you good feedback at the Garden Watchdog."
I'll let y'all know how it goes.
I think that is a very good idea.
Sometimes when a person first starts a business, they aren't organized, and it can hurt them in the future. Hopefully this person has learned from his mistakes and can make good for us.
I don't know if this is relevant, but before we switched to broadband, we had a dial up accct w/ MSN. I cannot tell you how much junk I get from that account. I'm in the process of closing it to stop the nonsense.
However, I did not get an email from the Lupers. I was just like Donna, checking out what everybody else was looking at plus always on the lookout for a bargain.
Edited to add: At times I've thought that maybe MSN leaves "old" accounts exposed as a way to annoy peopled who left. But that would be childish, wouldn't it?

I replied to the Erin Luper e-mail and asked how my address was obtained. Haven't gotten an answer!
I have MSN and changed the filter so that I don't get junk mail. I didn't think it mattered whether you were on dial up, DSL or Cable.
I did go look at the GWD. Ouch.
I forgot about our emails being hidden here. I guess they are buying lists or trolling for them some way.
yeah - but how did they get my "yahoo" address?
Do you belong to any garden groups or use that email to purchase from catalogues?
I don't! Dave's is the only garden site that I visit. I suspect that someone that I corressponed with by private e-mail is actually Erin Luper under another name. Could be that she was or is on Dave's under another name.
George I don't think it's necessarily so. Sometimes my friends have sent me a "group" email and I have discovered on a couple of ocassions that I have received mail from somebody that I noticed what in my friend's group, but wasn't somebody I knew at all.
hmmmmm - ya know - I MAY have used my yahoo address when I signed up for Garden Web. Funny - I never found GW that great, and when I found Dave's it was all over for them. I liked Dave's format much better. Maybe THAT is how they got it. Do you think Spike gives out an email list to vendors? I haven't visited that site for about 1 1/2 to 2 years. I'm not even sure what my user name and password are!
I was thinking it might be GW also.....it was recently sold to Ivillage, and they just might sell their lists?!
yep - I'll be that's it.
