I hope you all have a great day. Please post pics of your costumes! :-)
Here are my kids and I just before I took them to school this morning. I'm the pirate ;-), my son is a ninja, and my two daughters decided to join forces and be our little indian maidens. :-)

Happy Purim to all of our Jewish members :-)
It is aways great too dress up , you all look great cannot see Salvia at all .
I do not know what Purim is .
Purim is the Jewish holiday celebrating the victory of the Jews in the story of Esther (in the Old Testament for Christians). Much like at Halloween, everyone dresses up in costumes. If you want to read more about the Purim holiday, here's a great place: http://www.holidays.net/purim/

Thanks Julie for the site
it is now almost 11 PM and I started to reply at about 4 pm . Halloween does not seam quite right ,but it sounds like days to enjoy.
I may be too late, but Happy Purim everybody! :-)
What's the proper greeting for Pesach?
Shannon
Shannon, today is still Purim, so you're not too late at all :-). We just got back from the "Ad Lo Yadah" ("until one doesn't know"...which is the name for the Purim Parades....referring to the commandment to rejoice and embibe until one no longer knows whether he's sitting or standing ;-). It was great fun with all sorts of fun activities for the kids....and of course, lots of opportunities for Mommy and Daddy to open their wallets ;-) LOL
Here is a pic of DH and the kids before we went out last night to Purim festivities :-)
As for Pesach (Passover) - very good Shannon! - we just say in Hebrew "Pesach Sameach!" (Happy Passover!)...as we would for Purim: "Purim Sameach!".
-Julie
Julie I had never heard of that day before either. Those kids are so nice looking. Great to see people participating in a family oriented activities.
Happy ................! Sorry. I can't seem to pronounce it. LOL Thanks for allowing us a glimpse of your beautiful family.
John
Thank you GRC and John!! :-). The kids are really enjoying Purim this year with all the extra activities that seem to be going on. BTW, it's pronounced like the word "pour"+eem John :-).

We just had the Paschal meal at our church last night.
It was a wonderful time. My girls loved the food. My older daughter loves lamb. One of her friends came with us and she wanted to take the Matzo home. She thought it would be a great snack before she played soccer. : )
Pesach is pronunced PEH-SHAW.
I love the picture of the family. The dog looks like he is having fun too!
Actually, Pesach is pronounced with an 's' sound and not 'sh' and it has the laryngeal 'ch' at the end (as in Loch ness). The pronunciation you posted 'Peh-shaw' means "crime"
Why did you have matzo at the Easter meal?
Our dog hates us when we make her do silly things like putting on a Purim costume. We had her on "stay" to get the pic. As soon as we released her she clawed the costume off LOL.
Here's one of her that shows her pitiful face and eyes asking "why me?!"

Celebrations of life are the BEST. ~Blooms
Thanks Blooms. Easter Sunday is 2 days from now :-). You didn't miss it :-) We'll be dying eggs tomorrow and getting ready for an Easter egg hunt in our back yard on Sunday :-) Then my twins' 6th birthday is Monday. So between Purim yesterday/today, Easter on Sunday and the birthday on Monday, it's just a bit crazy with sweets and gifts around here LOL
-Julie
Julie sorry for pronouncing it wrong!
We have a special meal on Maundy Thurday.
Salvia, do you also bake Hamantaschen, filled wit prunes or poppyseeds?
They were my husbands favorite sweet snack.
Maria
Howdy, Maria!
John
Thanks for the info, Julie! I've known a few families that have observed both Christian and Jewish holy days, for various reasons, and I've always been impressed by the care and sensitivity with which they've done it and explained it to their children so they could share in the joy. I'm glad you're all having a good weekend....hey, if there's any extra candy, my addy's in the Address Exchange! lolol :-)
Shannon
Maria, nope, I dont' bake them. Even though I love to bake, there are such good bakeries around here that there's no need to bake hamantaschen at home. We get them with chocolate, strawberry preserves, dates, poppyseeds, butterscotch, and blueberry filling. :-) Chocolate are my favorite ;-)
Shannon, I grew up celebrating Christmas etc (although my family was never religious in the least.....our holidays were completely secular). DH knows that the holidays have no religious meaning for me. So there isn't any conflict about celebrating both. We both love traditions and we respect each other's traditions. So we had a ball with Purim and stomping out Haman's name, now we'll color and hunt for Easter eggs and a month from now we'll have a lovely Passover Seder :-).....etc etc etc. Our year is FULL of holidays LOL. And our kids feel sorry for the other kids who don't know about coloring eggs and then hunting for all the stuff the Easter Bunny will hide in the garden :-)
-Julie
Enjoy the Hunt
Thank you Boot .... we will :-)
Julie, my SIL grandparents came to the U.S from Russia back in the 1920's. I had never tasted anything as wonderful as the pastries Grandma Minnie made, and the prune hamantaschen were my favorite! She always made some extras so I would have a little package to take home. Just amazing goodies!
My grandchildren always had Christmas and Hanukkah too. I must say my fruitcake paled by comparison to Grandma Minnie's many pastries! *smile*
Pati
Pati, I love to bake, but I can't make a fruitcake worth eating to save my life LOL. I think by the time tomorrow is over (my twins 6th birthday), if I see another pastry or chocolate egg I'll be sick LOL. Purim, Easter and birthday all within 5 days......the sugar high should keep them awake and cranky for weeks ;-)
