Violin instruction in cyberspace

South Point, OH(Zone 6a)

Violin students, their parents and non-playing music lover will find the following site interesting:

www.violinmasterclass.com

(I am quoting from a Wall St. Journal article ) This was created by Kurt Sassmannshaus, chairman of the string dept at the U. of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music after 3 years of intensive work with the help of a substantial grant from the Dorothy & Richard Starling Foundation and launched Sept 04.

Every facet of violin technique forms a separate lesson, starting with the basics: how to stand, how to hold the violin and the bow, etc. . Each technique is defined with exercises for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, as well as master-class demonstrations. Website also offers lists of graded repertoire for practice and advice on how to set up your practice routine. There is also a forun for discussion with Prof. S as well as facilities for e-mailing him directly with private queries.

Download times for the streaming videos depend on the speed of your computer and internet connection and the site is very easy to navigate. With a click of the mouse you can repeat instructional demonstrations infinitely. (unfortunately, I have dial-up access, so it does not work too well for me - at home)

Esther, that's neat! Makes me want to get a violin and just try it out. :)

Wow .. tis a wonderful site Esther_z6 ..

May have to take a few refresher courses, but as things go - my violin turned into a fiddle, a few years ago ... She currently gathers dust bunnies on her case below the stairs. (*ashamed*)

Hmmm, may be an incentive to yank her back out tho' .. and see if I can play a rusty 'scale' on her tho'. Never acquired full fiddler player status, like my Daddy did tho' ..

Truly appreciate your post of the web site find, tho' ... Thanks!
