Pleasant Surprise

On saturday I found my baggie of Agastache seeds from two years ago. The seeds are microscopic in size and I wasn't sure if those black specks were seeds. I had some peat pots from last year, about 4oz. size. I didn't have any plastic tents so I put a small coaster into a sandwich baggie and put the peat pot inside and put the baggie on a south facing window sill. This particular Agastache is the lavender which smells and tastes like licorice. There is also a bubble gum and tutti-frutti flavor.
In two days to my amazement there really was some seeds sprouting. I don't know about any one else but it was a great thrill seeing those seeds sprout. I think of all the years spent doing nothing and then to discover gardening. Also this year, more castor beans and three types of climbing roses. I am also thinking about changing my log on name. prcastle

On Tuesday I found 4 packages of tulips and crocus that I'd forgotten to plant. They'd gotten buried in a pile in the corner of the patio where I'd stacked some things sort of out of the winter rains (not enough storage in the garden shed). In any case, they'd gotten a bit damp, but not soggy....and they'd started SPROUTING there inside the dark plastic bag with that little bit of damp. Not a single one was rotted or rotting. Since I'd forgotten all about buying them, I figured there was no loss in giving them a go. So I stuck them in the ground around the garden and took a "wait and see" attitude towards them. This morning I went out there and every single one of them is peeking out of the ground now! Unbelievable! LOL. I wonder if they'll grow enough to actually bloom this spring or not. It'll be fun watching to find out :-)
