I wasn't really sure where to post this question, so please let me know if another forum is more appropriate:
We have an area in the front of our house that we want to have grass. At one time it had bahia grass, but now it's mostly weeds. There is no irrigation to this area, but we would consider adding some if necessary, but we do not want a high maintenance grass, specifically one that needs pesticides. Does anyone, particulary in the Central Florida area, have any experience with Zoysia grass or any other recommendation? Thanks! Margaret
Zoysia Grass
hi veggiemom,
I know someone here who has Zoysia. It is pretty, but not a good choice for our area.
She is not happy with it. It crawled (like bermuda grass) into all of her flower beds. There were some other problems also, like huge spots of die back.
I am a big fan St. Augustine Grass. It does great in our humid climate. We don't have some of the drought problems that some parts of Fla. has, so it could be different in your area.
This website should help you to make a good choice: http://cfyn.ifas.ufl.edu/lawn.html
Thanks Lisa. The spreading was a concern for us since we only want a small portion of our yard to have grass. I have enough to do in the yard without having to control the grass. In this area St. Augustine grass needs a lot of pesticide treatements to keep it in good shape so it's not an option for us. Later today when I have more time I'll check out the web site you gave me. Margaret
