Wow! OFG that's alot of seeds, (I mean work). I think I had about that many last year, oh yeah then there was the 75+ Dalhia's I prepared & potted up from the year before, are we crazy or what?
I tried to plant them all in 1 day so I could go sailing. Yeah well, if anyone has that answer, please, please post. For that matter, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions on what can be grown on a sailboat please let me know. Experiments welcome!!
Nightowl2 that's a great idea about the marked bags. Do you keep them in the freezer or fridge?
Canadian Contest!
Wow, that is a lot of seeds Donna. I can see that that would be time consuming. We need to do more seed trading in the fall to cut down on the costs. :-)
I've just been keeping them in a rubbermaid container in my closet. That was mainly because I knew it wouldn't be long until I started planting them so they'd be easy to access. I have a book out from the library called The Propagator's Handbook by Peter Thompson. It tells how to save seeds so that they will last for years. It's a pretty interesting book. He has what he calls recipes for starting all different kinds of seeds. I got the idea of using the marked bags from Weezingreens. It really helped me get my seeds organized for the planting season. It's on one of the threads here from back in January.
Sandy
I am going to try that baggie idea too, Linda. If you read any good hints in The Propagator's Handbook, please post. I for one, need all the help I can get.
Congratulations Joanne! Ginny
Thanks Ginny :)
Joanne and Donna, I mailed your seeds this afternoon. Pleas let me know when they arrive. Take care, Joelle
Will do, Joelle and again, many thanks.
You won't believe me when I tell you this, but I came sooo close to putting a guess in at about 11:30 PM just before the deadline on the contest. My guess would have been 17. Since I have tons of peony poppy seeds, just didn't think it would be fair. So if anybody still wants some, I have a mix, that includes several shades of pink, reds and probably a few mauve. I can send them with my Ginny to the RU or mail them to anyone that won't be going. I'm also offering Verbascum chaxii(white) and Dianthis barbatus(Sweet William) to any Canadians that would like them.
Brenda

Yes, please email me your address. Yes, this Hibiscus reseeds for us. It's almost a weed. Picture of Super Duplex in that thread in the link. Peony poppies are not separated to colours. Symphyadra will give you plenty of seeds.
You are welcome to all that you like.
Brenda
Got your Poppy and Hollyhock seeds this morning, Joelle. Thanks so much. My goodness, the poppy seeds are tiny, aren't they. You mentioned in your note to sprinkle in the garden, so you don't advise starting them inside then. I will try your Hollyhocks and hopefully this time they'll germinate. Would be a nice mixture with the ones I have going now with the light yellow/creme and the dark reds. :D
Good to hear Donna! That is pretty fast I put them in the mail in time for the 5pm pick up on Monday. Yes just sow them now where you want them to grow. Some say to sow on the last snow, but I have sown them late and still had blooms. Joelle
The weather has been so nice lately that I have been spending as much time outdoors as I can, but only managing to kick rocks and peer at tulip and Daf's that are sprouting. Now, I'll have something to actually plant tomorrow. Woo Hoo! Thanks Joelle. :D
I thought it would be too early to plant poppy seeds outside or are you talking about the hollyhocks?
Annual poppies are very forgiving, they want to live! Here they reseed like crazy, so the seeds can take -40. I think they will start an way you try them. Good luck everyone. Joelle
I'd love some seeds. I have none, el-zippo, di-nodda. LOL
I sent for some vegetable seeds for my garden and ran out of money to buy the flowers I wanted.
If you still have some to share, I'd love it. I'm not picky. I'll take anything you have left over. I will "make" room for them. (actually, I have a lot of room) :)
I want to buy 2 Dahlias next month and they are the "Spider" type. Then in May, I can buy a few Glads.
I'm not sure where I'm going to get them yet. I don't know of any places here where I live to buy them but I'll find them from links here.
I really like DG. One of these days I'll have lots to give. Watch and see.
Darrell
Thank you ceedub. I'll check it out right now.
Thank you so much for the seeds Brenda! I left a little blerb on your feedback page. Joelle
You are both more than welcome. Darrell, just send me your address please, via dmail and some idea of what you think you can grow. Do you want to try some perennials form seed? etc.
Not sure what they have, but check out Halifax seeds for some Dahlias and glads. Also
http://www.guildwoodcannas.com/ has some lovely stuff. (a fellow member)
oh wow.......thank you echoes.
I sent you a message on dmail with all my information.
I would really like the opportunity to grow some perenials starting them from seed.
I've looked at Halifax Seed and I checked the rating of them. From what I gathered, they charge a little more than what people want to pay as far as seeds go.
But, I think they have great deals on bulbs, tubers, and plants.
I guess there aren't enough seeds for the price. If I understood the comments right.
I'm going to Halifax seed anyway. I'd rather have quality than quantity any day. Hopefully I'll make some good choices and be able to share with everyone some of the seeds I gather.
Thanks again Brenda.
Darrell
Darrell, if you'll send me your address by dmail, I can send you a mess of seeds too. I have quite a few that I can spare. :Donna

Let me know the kinds of things you're interested in Darrell and I'll send you some seeds too. I have lots of annuals. Are you interested in them as well? If you check my trade list you can see some of the seeds I have. I'd like to get rid of some as I'll be replacing them with this years' seeds before long.
Sandy
Thank you OldFlowerGirl and nightowl2. I sent you both a dmail.
I feel like I'm home, finally. And it feels really good to be here.
Thank you.
Now what kind of a shift are you on to be up at that time in the morning, Darrell. I know you can't be menopausal! I have replied to your dmail, and you are very welcome. :D
LOL at OFG.....
I have a dog that seems to have odd morning hours as to when he needs to go outside. LOL Too funny.,
anyway............I answered you.
And you must have gotten up early too. Do you have a critter that needs to go out too?
Darrell
I do have a dog, but he can sleep longer in the morning than my hubby and I can. We are usually up around 5:30-6:00 am. I wish I could sleep in, but I'm afraid it is an old habit after having to get up and go to work each morning for 35 years. Old habits do die hard. I don't mind though, especially in the spring and summer. The mornings are my favourite time of the day, so fresh and peaceful; just me and the birds! In mid summer here in the BC interior, it is usually the best time to get any gardening done, before the temperatures start to rise too high.
