Typing in color

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Can I add color to my text? I was trying it in the test forum and it didn't work. Don't know if I am doing something wrong or you just can't do it.
Thanks , Ronnie

I haven't been able to get color font/text code to work either.......hoipefully you'll get an answer from admin/Dave.

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

From what I've seen in the FAQs, only three HTML tags are allowed at this time: bold, underline, and italic. http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/#131

Figured........thansk tutti :-)

Spokane Valley, WA(Zone 5b)

You're welcome. I kinda like typing in color, myself. ;)

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

It would be fun to add color to certain words now and again.....but oh well :-)

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Thanks, at least I know It's not me!!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yeah- it would be neat to add colour. Maybe even our own fades. Wistfully dreaming.

-Jocie.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I'm sure it would be a lot of work for admin to configure the extra html codes for our use.....but it would be fun :-)

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Let a girl dream, lol.

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

LOL :-)

Cedar Springs, MI(Zone 5b)

emoticons would be nice too :))

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yes they would! Now we are wishing for the moon, LOL.

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I've gotta put in a plug for clean, uncluttered forums. I love 'em!

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yeah, I guess it's probably better that way. Keeps loading time down too. Probably would save alot of space as well.
Ahh- I'll just dream of colour, LOL.

Crossville, TN

I don't think I would like to read posts in color...some colors are too hard to read...especially for us older people. Jo

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

A complete post in color is sometimes hard to read, yes....a key word now and again no

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I was on the lines of thinking key words, certainly not a whole post

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

You know how it goes, though...If you allow any feature, there will be those that abuse it. Forums like this one make my eyes cross. I mean, aren't you glad DG doesn't look like this? http://www.angelfire.com/ar/adamcoats/copy_of_index.html

Seattle, WA(Zone 8b)

I would never subscribe let alone visit if DG ever had pop up ads like that! YUCK! LOL

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

LOL, and I wasn't even referring to the pop-up ads! Mind-boggling to think of all that plus the annoyance of pop-up's. Firefox blocks them and I never know if a site is fraught with them or not.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

YES, I'm with you Gardenwife---SIMPLE is better on DG. So much easier to assimilate the information. And there's a certain elegance in the streamlined look.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I will put in my 2 cents.... on my garden club site we have the emotion icons, but I don't think we can do color. Anyway, it gets really hard to read because people go NUTS with those icons! I think color would be the same way. It is cool to have that as an option, to add emphasis, etc. But it turns into every post looking like an Easter egg with tons of the various emotion faces. :) :( :O) LOL!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Oh, I know exactly what you mean! The forums at 3 Fat chicks http://3fatchicks.com are busy like that...Animated emoticons, colored text, and avatars and signatures with clipart. Many times I disable smilies in the view. It's pretty bad when a one-line reply to a post takes up 1/3 of my screen's height because of all the stuff below that one line. ;)

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

3 fat chicks huh? HA! I have to check that out just for the name!

Corpus Christi, TX(Zone 9a)

Gardenwife,

Have not been over to 3fatchicks in a while. Need to get over there as they do have a lot of information (and support). Made a 300 mi trip today and lets just say I could have made better food choices...Barb

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I'm behind you, Kimberley. The way it is now, must continue in this aspect.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

I LOVE color!
I THINK in color . . .

But here . . . it would get too busy and wear out my eyes.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

OK, I just found this thread. I'm pretty new, and I have no idea how to enable bold-ed or underlined type. I agree that people would likely over-use color capabilities, but I would appreciate it if somebody would point me toward instructions for using bold or underline in my posts or DG emails. I'm *tired* of relying on asterisks or of SHOUTING when I don't really mean to raise my voice!

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

Hi, Critterologist (love your username!). Check out the forums FAQ at http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/ There's a section regarding the formatting allowed at DG. There's even a test forum where you can play to your heart's content and try stuff out: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/test/

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

< B > < / B > Makes bold.

< U > < / U > Underlined.

< / I > Itallics.

Now I'm just showing off, haha.

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Or do what GW said, lol.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Thanks! That was just the link I needed! ;-)

Crossville, TN(Zone 7a)

Yay you did it!

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I like the uncluttered look we have. why mess with a good thing.
as has been mentioned, the colors are sometimes hard to read, the "...Animated emoticons, colored text, and avatars and signatures with clipart" would be distracting, cluttering and I think slow us down. suffice it to say I love it the way things are.....

Thanks Dave, Terry and gang for keeping our garden simple, for us simpletons...lol
(well... I have been in sites that I couldnt even figure out how to post...and whats with the avatars and what not? had to ask my son about them and still didnt understand)

Oakland, OR(Zone 8a)

I think that leaving it as it is now is allowing us to concentrate on the reason we are here - gardening - rather than on what sort of look our communications have.

There's even a test forum where you can play to your heart's content and try stuff out: [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]

Thanks Gardenwife for the point. While checking it out, I found the thread on quoting and ta-da!!
