Building the Rion greenhouse (my way) LOL

Thanks Badseed! I guess maybe I was being nosey, but I saw the thread where you went around and around with your decision, and that's kind of where I am. I really want a greenhouse, but maybe it would be better to set the money aside for my downpayment for the farm I really want. I'm glad you are happy with your Rion.
My buddy is pregnant right now with their third girl and they were trying some Chinese zodiac method to get a boy, so I was curious. I don't know if they are going to stop at three or keep going for the boy. Seems kind of nutty to me, you're going to love the kid anyway, right?
Sounds like you are raising those girls right! I bet life at your house is never boring.

So far, I am really liking the greenhouse! I just went down to the garage and dragged out the shelving units from my little cheapy greenhouse I got at big lots last year. I am really hoping they will work for this year.

I wish the best of luck to your pregnant friends. :) We have always said we do not care what we have so long as the baby is healthy and that is the truth! I guess we just both feel like we have so many of the same sex already, it would just be easier. LOL I do have to say though, the clothes are getting worn out. hahahaha

Yeah, healthy with 10 fingers and 10 toes. My grandmother saw me for the first time and said to my mother "at least her ears don't stick out". I've never figured out what that meant! LOL!
Does your littlest one have anything to wear? My family loves hand-me-downs but they only last so long! Mom tried to dress my brother in some of my baby clothes, but Dad made her stop.

LOL Sylvi, you are funny! I work at Target so I buy as much clothes as I can afford when they go clearance. If you buy in the off season and buy a couple of sized larger, you can pick up clothes for $2 or less. I have bought tons of stuff for around $1.24 minus my 10% percent discount. I bought a bunch of shoes for .74 at Christmas, minus my discount. I pretty much only work there now so I know where the clearance is and save my piddly 10%. LOL I think the little kids have newer clothes than the big ones. Of course we have a few friends that pass over clothes for the big ones so we do okay.

Hey Badseed! Awesome job on your Greenhouse! Congrats!!!!! I love it! Just THINK of all of the propagation you can do now.

I'm gearing up for seed starting soon. Making lists and checking them twice.

You have motivated me to do some weeding today. Not sure how that is at all in relation to this topic but............(LOL)

P.S. Remember Musa Zebrina? It has overwintered in my GH and is almost twice her size! :-D

Hey Sue sista! Very long time no chat! Hey, if I can motivate anyone to do anything, it is a way good day! Now, who can motivate me to stay in and do the laundry and clean? LOL The sun is shining and it is not painfully cold for a change.

I did get the shelving stuff from the garage and it is going to work perfect for now even if it won't be permanent. All the parts are just painted tubing, probably aluminum with 16 shelves. They came with that $50 greenhouse I bought last year. But hey, it's money I won't have to spend right now! I just ran to the hardware store and spent a whopping $15 for bolts and nuts and a spray bottle. Wooo hooo. This is really fun! I wish I wouldn't have had to wait so long!

You have to be thrifty to live my life! I only spurge on the important stuff (like greenhouses and plant co-ops). LOL

LOL, thrifty is the way to go! I love Big Lots and improvising any and what ever way I can with what I've got most of the time!

I just came in for lunch and a little break. Dang, I had forgotten what a workout it is to bend down and back up to weed. My legs sure think I'm kidding! LOL. 20 feet done, a million to go................

So.........what seeds will you start first?

Well, the kids were good for a whole hour! The shelves are in and the final trim pieces are done. There is nothing more I can do but put in the black rubber insulating strips!!! Woooo and hooo! I STILL have not received the replacement piece that was broken. I even offered to pay for overnight shipping. :( I won't be held down though! Every time I look out there, I am still shocked that I finally bought the thing. I HAVE A GREENHOUSE!!!! I'll have to get out to take pics of the shelves. I have some levelling to do on the shelves but I left plenty of room for my ears, cannas and bananas.

I am going out tomorrow for a chain saw, thermometer and whatever else ends up in my cart! LOL I am letting the girls make beds in front of the GH for herbs, a teepee with either MG or beans. They love both. I may have to have both. :)

Sue, I don't know what I will start first! I guess I will start everything that does not need chilled. I dragged in all my plug trays so I can sterilize them. I really need to get some of the ones with deeper cells. I guess I'll do a bit of internet shopping in a few. I gotta order dinner first. I dial up some of the best pizza! hehehehehe Oh, that would be splurging......Isn't that why we buy groceries in store brands and on sale? Then you can afford to eat out. Ahem.

I bought seeds for Japonica-the striped one, asarina, sun coleus, yellow and white petunias, and did several trades. I always have to grow Convulvulus tricolor, hyacinth beans, castor beans, canna from seed, my mind is just a blur, running with the possiblilites! This is my first time, ever in my entire life with a greenhouse! I'll break out the coffee filters in a few and throw the stuff that needs cold in the fridge. I am a woman on a mission!!

I have to commend you on your weeding! I have tons of that to do. I was not home much in the fall to get stuff done. Every inch of my yard is wrecked! There is going to be a small round up in April and if I don't get into bionic motion, I'll be too embarrassed to let anyone come over. LOL

I am so happy your banana lived over the winter! My 10 footer is still sending out new leaves. It is cramped in the garage, but alas it lives! LOL My tuberose are sprouting too. It looks like my caladiums and my pond ears bit the dust, rotted. Boo hoo. Everything that was potted still looks really good. I am so excited for this year!!!

Just reading your posts, brigthens one day, you can actually feel the excited in you, just like a kid with a new toy. So happy for you. I am sure by next week it will be full of new plants. I bet you won't come out of your GH for weeks the family will have to get walkie/talkies just to talk to you and don't forget the cot in case you want to sleep out there LOL.

This is a fabulous thread. Reading it excites me and makes me wonder why I didn't do this when I was your age and healthier.

I want a green house so much. Reading about your adventure in putting it up has me living vicariously through you. Thank you for that.

Maybe in the future, I will still be able to do it.

We have some strong winds through here as we are just below the Rockies....and I fear for a green house that isn't strong enough to withstand this kind of wind.
It doen't happen often but when it does....it is furious.

Do you or anybody here have advice for me and what type of construction would be best for me? I really like the model you got, Chele. What do you think about wind and that particular model?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I live in a wind tunnel here-open flat farm land and the winds average 15mph everyday so here is what we built!

Michele. Here is a picture of inside GH as of today. As you can see, the houseplants have taken second fiddle to the brand new seedlings. Look out garden, here we come....oops put this under the wrong thread.

Also, I have been looking at property in Clermont County with a barn and room for a greenhouse--do you want to become a greenhouse contractor? Sounds like you could do it! (-: Lord knows I don't have your energy. I'll watch the baby while you build it.

Also, there is a Greenhouse for rent on Route 52 near Sweetwine/River Downs. Good place for a nursery business...

Is it snowing at your place? V. chilly here. How is the GH heater?

Gosh Judy, I read you wrong there for a minute and thought you said you HAVE a barn and property in Clemont. LOL I was about to hit my knees and start begging. We have been out there looking at properties on and off for the last six months!

I didn't get out for a heater yet. I started a thread here and need to get back over and see what everyone had to say. My SIL said Lowe's has their's on sale.

It is REALLY cold and the flurries keep coming and going. We probably have about an inch on the grass but the streets are clear. I'd rather have a foot of snow than this wind!

The greenhouse for rent, is it the one across from River Downs and next to that gas station? That one looked really nice but didn't last too long.

Sorry, for butting in Tabasco and Badseed, As badseed already knows I live in Goshen between Milford and Blanchester now to my point if you both find property out here that would be really nice then we can take turns babysitting for the five girls, and my grandson who just moved in with his mother he is 1 1/2 years old just thought it would be nice to throw in a boy LOL. We can also chip in on all the gardening chores like weeding I will let you do it LOL.
