Is There A Newbie Forum?

Lubbock, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello all,
I just joined and have only begun my flower growing experience just 3 seasons ago. I have several books, but have questions for more experienced gardeners. Is ther a suitable place for me to post the questions? I'm just learning the forums and didn't see a beginner forum or an ask an expert forum.

Just Wondering.....

Hey Linda, I just spotted you over in the Welcome Mat Forum. :)

We don't have a Newbie Forum, but feel free to ask questions in any Forum that seems to fit. You've likely noticed that we have Forums dedicated to all different types of plants, and the members here are very generous in offering their tips.

You might want to also visit the Propagation Forum which is a great storehouse of information, whether you're just starting out or trying something wild and exotic.

Again, welcome!

Welcome!

Just pick a forum closest to the topic that you have a question . For seed starting, use Propagation. For general gardening advice...such as how to build a raised bed, or advice on mulches, use Garden Talk.

For specific plants such as Daylilies or Tomatoes...they have their own forums. If your specific plant does not have a forum, then, Garden Talk is fine...or maybe you have a question about a specific action...how to save seeds...use Seed Saving. There is no wrong or right...we're a community..a lot like neighbors chatting over a garden fence. You might get a little faster answers if you gear your questions to where someone who has expertise hangs out, but someone will usually happen along and give you a hand.

If you need help using the site itself, go to the Daves Garden Forum.

There is a FAQ forum for common questions that get answered frequently..check there too.
A wealth if information is at your fingertips....all you have to do is ask, and we'll help.

Again, welcome.

Wecome to our great site, Linda.

No, there is no special newbie forum. Many of our members are also newbies and they just jump on in and ask questions....someone will answer if they know it.

There is a "Search" function on DG, but it is out of commission right now. Our webmaster is working on it at this time. Usually you can type in there what your looking to ask and come up with some previous questions that can help you. Until then, you can use "Garden Talk", or if it's pertaining to a particular item: ie. soil, or annuals or perrenials, bulbs, etc. Just go to those type forums and someone will be glad to help.

We are a VERY friendly group of gardeners and love to help others. We don't think that since that question might have been asked before, we will jump on you for it. Your question will be answered or someone might direct you to a thread that might help with your question.

Just jump on in, I promise we don't bite. hehe

This site doesn't need a Newbie Forum because the folks here don't get snooty, lol! I'm new to gardening and have asked lots of questions - there's always a cheery answer from someone.

Welcome aboard!

Jen
PS The Search function has been working for me, I love it!

Also, there is a Classics Threads Forum for any questions that occur frequently or "an archive of the most commonly discussed topics on Dave's Garden." It is a wealth of information on many topics.

Hi Linda. WELCOME to DG.

We can't have a beginners forum and an expert forum. If all the beginners are in one place and all the experts are in another, how could we help each other? :) There are tons of forums, even somewhat overwhelming at times. Make sure you look at all of them and then you can set up your page so you only see the ones that most interest you. You can still get to the others when you want them. I imagine this time of year you'll want propogation, annuals, perennials, grasses, etc. Just don't forget all the others, like garden talk, general discussion, roses... To get the best answers, make sure your posts are descriptive. Make sure a post in the Tomato forum says something like "growing tomatoes from seed" or "tomato diseases". That will insure the people that have answers look. Don't forget to use the search box too.

Okay, that'll be enough out of me. LOL
WELCOME again!!

I guess Dave finished working on the Search forum, as I noticed it is working this morning. Thanks Dave.
