Beautiful blooms.
bought as creamsickle
Stunning pic lilcajanlady!!! I love it.
Clare, you can complain! LOL. So you grow epiphyllums? I was looking at them to get more involved. As if I need to add any interests. I have a neighbor that has a huge one on their front porch. They have it sitting on the ground and it is growing up using their porch side rails. It is huge and it is incredible in full bloom. Monkey see, monkey want to do!
WOW, that is one more beautiful photo of absolutely breathtaking brugs!!!! Where is Glenmora LA, litcajanlady36???
I'm with Sherry....I think I would need a truck for your sale in March LOL
I really like the plants you'll be selling (especially aroids) and I would buy your gingers and bananas and of course, the brugs....oh, could I go on and on.
I wish you success, Dona!
thanks so much you guys
sherrylike, its in central louisiana, south of alexandria about 25 miles on hwy 165.
Toward Lake Charles?? I think I'm about 3 hours from Alexandria, we used to do the dog shows there and Lake Charles. It's been maybe three years since I've been in that area, but we loved it - might have been because we won big time, lol!!!!
lake charles is 2 1/2 hours further south.
Dona, that brug is beautiful!
Kell, is your neighbor's epiphyllium the white night-blooming fragrant one or the colored day-blooming ones? I am just starting out collecting these. I don't need something more to collect either! But here I am collecting them:-) I'll be able to send you some cuttings this summer as soon as mine grow a little more. I have them in hanging baskets right now, but I'm going to transfer some to some urn containers. I saw pictures of them growing in urns somewhere, and it looked really neat. I hope you are feeling better today.
So these ones smell really nice? Cool! I have two cuttings of creamsickles going. It is so strange that my doubles seem to be doing better than my singles. But I just started fertilizing so who knows - it is also amazing how some can start out slow and then suddenly get a growth spurt (noticed that in a comparison, last summer).
Clare, now what is that in your last photo?? Also, is there another name of it too?? It resembles cactus, or are my eyes deceiving me?
There are some great epi threads over at the Cactus Forum. Also, check out this link: http://www.ecology.org/orchids/index5.html#Epis The night-blooming white ones are very fragrant and sometimes as large as dinner plates. They look like the picture below:
Oh, about the other names: yes, there are many different varieties and forms. Epiphyllums are often commonly called Orchid Cactus. Some other forms include Selenicereus grandiflora and Hylocereus undatus, which is commonly called Dragon Fruit. The flowers are followed by red edible fruit. Ooooooh, how beautiful Clare, and being fragrant it the icing on the cake. Are they difficult to grow?? Precious little girl too!!!
Sherry, they are really easy to grow because they are succulents and drought tolerant, but they do have to be protected from frost and brought into the greenhouse during the winter if you live in an area which gets frost. The plants can get to be quite heavy in time. The white night-blooming ones are fragrant and only last one night. I'm told people often have parties where they sit and watch the flowers open and celebrate them! They are usually gone by morning light. The day-blooming colored ones are usually not fragrant at all, but they last for a couple of days. I'm just starting to collect these and have cuttings rooting, but I may not see flowers for several years yet. Some plants take a very long time to start blooming.
They're beautiful, Clare.
Hahahaha, Clare it sounds like there are some 'cactus' growers that sound as addicted as some brug people I've heard about, lol!!!! Gosh, they are really beautiful, I'd love the fragrant, night blooming ones...
I just absolutely love that last one Clare!! Too neat looking. LOL!! All are so very pretty!
My neighbor has a big red one. I guess day blooming. I will take some pictures as soon as it starts. It is quite dramatic and will be covered in blooms.
I LOVE your Cream Sickle Dona, it's BE-----------U----------Tee----------FUL!!!! lol And it's pink too!!

Neat Delisa, Thank you, boy isn't that a gorgeous one in that pic? I'll have to check into it more. I think I have been approved by our 'budget' (DH is my budget handler) lol...to get one.
I found one though Thanks Delisa!
Julie
Thanks Ada, Sherry, and Kell.
Sherry, you bet their are collectors who are addicted! LOL! I think I'm one of them!
Kell, I like that last one the best too. I think that one is called Selenicereus grandiflora.
