zone map?

Oak Grove, MN(Zone 4a)

I just noticed (probably everybody else knows this) that you can click on zone map in PlantFiles. The map says lower MI is a zone 6. Am I really zone 6? That would be great, I've always thought we were 5 here. Does anybody know?

Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)

The USDA just put out a new map about a year or so ago. Dave said he is using the new re-drawn map. So, if you're a 6 on there, that's what you are now. Quite a few people ended up in a warmer zone. Here's a thread on it... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/438055/

edit to add: New map put up in July of '03.

yes and by the zone map im a zone 6 because im close enough to the bay here-but i still garden like im a zone 5! ;)
I dont think it shows that on daveszone map-but if you look in any catalog you can see right here in my lil cove i get the lighter green color! lol

see these are things we michiganders could yak about in our own forum! :)

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

This could really be a great thing. If I am reading it correctly then I should now be in zone 8. The line for zones 7 and 8 run right through the middle of the county that I live in. And I think that I might live in zone 8 now but I'm not exactly positive. I tried looking up county maps and comparing them to the new zone map but it is "iffy". How can I know for sure? Any ideas?

If you're that close, I'd say use your own experience with your plants. If you're in a micro-climate, you can easily be a zone different than the map says. It is just a guide. Do zone 8 plants regularly winter kill for you? Then be a 7b, if not, take the 8a. JMHO :)

Well I've never grown anything outside yet and the houses around here do not have much landscaping so it is hard to tell what will grow and what will not. The man next door has an opuntia growing in his front yard and it makes it through the winter just fine. It is so amazing to me that no one here does much landscaping at all. Maybe it is because most of these houses are rental houses.
