Erroneous Info

(Zone 5b)

Hi all!

I'm a fairly new contributer to this database. And I am a Chile-Head! Said with pride & I truly love everything capsicum.

I've posted a few pics and a few comments on capsicums that I have personally grown. What bothers me is the (to me) incorrect info that has been posted previously by the person that first submitted the species/variety.

A couple of times I submitted error reports of which one was acknowledged (even though not corrected) So..... is it proper etiquette here to email the original contributer and suggest that they might be wrong?

The easiest way since you would not know who submitted the entry is to put the correct information in a comment. If the originator reads the comment they will change it as appropriate. Other wise submit an error report. One of the areas of disagreement is with heat. If you have a reputable source in Scoville units cite it. I am assuming that you are talking about the check boxes.

The administrators of the PF are also very good at researching information. When you submit your comments via the error reports, send along some substantiating data from sources that are trustworthy. That will assist them in researching the issue further. If you do not do this, and they research the information themselves, they may not come across anything to substantiate your thoughts regarding a particular species or cultivar.

I wouldn't suggest adding a contradictory comment until you have explored other avenues. Conflicting comments just undermine our credibility. John, the administrators are probably backlogged a bit, but they have always responded to my error reports. If you do not receive a reply soon, submit another. If that doesn't work, click on my name and send me an email. I'll look into it for you.

Thank you all for your responces and they make good sense to me.

Farmerdill... > One of the areas of disagreement is with heat.

Yes & no. That is one area that is always open to debate as it can vary so greatly from garden to garden (from seeds planted even from the exact same pod) and from pod to pod even on the same plant & picked at the same time. Same with pod size or even plant size.

OK. (hopefully I can find two sources that agree) LOL

Weezingreens... > Conflicting comments just undermine our credibility.

Yes, I understand.

Thanks again for all your help.

There have been a number of times I have submitted information with supporting documentation, etc - and the PF admin comes back and says, "I don't agree. Here are some other sources. Tell me what you think." They're right 99.9% of the time.

John, the main thing is that you should be hearing back from Admin. It may be taking longer because they are doing some research of their own. We've had a contest going to add info to the PF, so they may have fallen behind a bit, as well.

John,
I have checked the error reports. You have submitted 2, both have been responded to. Anytime you send a report and you don't feel its been corrected properly send it back and tell us what we missed.

However in this instance I think I found the problem of the one you don't think was corrected the right way. That was at the time we where having server problems. It appears the link you sent was just for one entry, when there where 3 others with the same mistake. Also, the entry that you reported the error on, the correction didn't seem to take. So I am sure you didn't think we corrected it at all. I have gone back and corrected them all.

Please check them out and see if that was the problem you where concerned with. If not send us another report .

JohnT, are you aware that both of your entries have lost ALL their details? Every single one just says "Unknown - Tell us".

Ulrich, what makes you say these entries lost their details? Are you certain they had those details to begin with? (If you are certain those details were there and are now gone, that's fine - I just don't want to start a panicky stampede of error reports ;o)

Terry, based on what John says at the opening of this thread I could not imagine he would leave all the Details unchecked.

Ulrich,

My fault. Just getting started with new entries & posted the names & pictures first w/o filling in the details. Just checked 'My Info' and see that there are 29 photos pending.

I'll get the hang of this site yet!

I've been wrong before, LOL

John you are doing fine. I hope I cleared up your reports problem if not let me know. Ulrich you wrong no way. :) I was going to post I didn't think they had been filled in to start with but you beat me to it.
